TheSameCoin Rumor: DriveClub delayed till 2014

It's amusing how history is going to repeat for me. My PS3 was a Super Stardust HD to TV adapter, and now my PS4 will be a Resogun to TV adapter.

Its amusing to me that all these people who were only buying a ps4 for free drive club materialized out of the ether (where were you people when we were defending the game in 3 threads filled with Forza fans!! :) ) . This game really looked to be a minor success at best (I was excited for it) and suddenly its the most anticipated launch title in the history or the world.

There are a lot of games available day one, resogun is just one of many.

Am I the only person who thought the racer reference in Greatness Awaits was for NFS, not DC?

That whole aggressive drive-opponent-into-the-bridge move was more NFS/arcade racer than a semi-sim which is how I took DC to be (and yes, I know cheeky MP action and all that, but the DC I played at EGExpo would've sent the offending car careening off the other side of the bridge!)

Didn't the cars have DC logos on them?

Yes:

Maybe I'm just being overly positive because I'm hyped but it might not be the worst thing. Gives us another game in a relatively short time and for me there is plenty to be getting on with on PS4 during it's initial couple of months. Plus rather they took their time and got it right than rushed to get it released at launch. Also it won't be competing with other launch games not to mention GT6. Might be for the best long term

I dont understand the PS+ thing. Why does Sony need to offer a free game?

Because IGC has established itself as the crème de la crème of the PS+ offer, and since PS4 is Sony taking the leap of locking multiplayer behind a paywall, it makes sense that Sony shows its commitment towards IGC by offering a AAA-tier title for IGC out-the-gate.

Because they promised to do so.

When did they do that? E3? I think i missed that. I don't understand why they cant just release a beta version of this game, with like some tracks and some cars and then we will get the full experience later. Like Gran Turismo did with prologue. I cant understand that they are going to realese a new console without a driving game.

Yes, E3. Jack was on stage and announced Driveclub Plus Edition and the first three free Indie games.

They never promised anything

I seriously doubt that they are going to release Knack as a free game instead. That would make every preorder with Knack pointless. Maybe release a Indie game as a free download with the promise of a free Driveclub when it releases... or even better Fifa 14 free for everyone. #believe

PS+ will be mandatory to pay in PS4 to play games online.
their biggest entice was the free semi-version of driveclub.

microsoft on the other hand, just announced that xboxlive gold payers now get dedicated servers on xbone for all online games for their money.

I think they need to find something to offer with PS+ that will at least make the balance seem even (even though its really not)

Yeah this would be a killer blow to Sony's PS+ offering Moreso than the console's actual launch and it was something I was looking forward to as well.

If this materializes I wonder what Sony will do.

Looks to me that Knack will be the PS+ game replacement... maybe that's why is already available to preorder in the PSN to make ppl bait before the "It's free with PS+" announcement...

They've already *also* promised two (or three?) Indie games for the IGC.

I can see them giving away Knack - of course they'd rather not, but if DC is delayed, they're in damage limitation mode so may have little choice.

Offer Knack as a replacement or a couple more indie games, I can't see Sony offering Killzone Shadow Fall, single player or multiplayer

Yep. I think that if it wasn't true they would have said so by now.

Especially since this rumor has been picked up by major sites.

Has anyone thought maybe things are still up in the air?
Maybe we will get a Beta version, they could be putting together a Prologue version quickly giving them a few months to flesh out the game and improve FPS etc?

If the test version is decent and they came out in April with

60 FPS
Dynamic Weather.
X amount of extra cars and tracks (a fair few)

I would buy it day 1 (whereas now I would have settled for the PS+ edition)

4 indie games actually. Resogun, Outlast, Don't Starve, Secret Ponchos.

They actually did. They promised PS+ members free DriveClub PS+ Edition, at E3.

True, even saying you could Platinum the PS+ version and that it was the full game minus a few tracks/cars

If this is delayed, I'll cancel my preorder and buy a 2nd hand PS3 until Watchdogs, Driveclub, Infamous etc come out next year.

I haven't owned a PS3 in about 18 months and there are heaps of great games I want to catch up on. Puppeteer, Beyond: 2 souls, GTA5, The Last of Us... More than enough to get me through till next year.

I find it pretty hilarious that people are expecting a free $60 game because of this.

The DC PS+ freebie isn't even the full game.

I dont understand the PS+ thing. Why does Sony need to offer a free game?

I imagine that Sony doesn't want to just completely drop the free game promotion at the same time they begin requiring PS+. I always got the feeling that the entire point of Driveclub was to be a F2P game with a relatively high production value that would be offered at retail, but "given away" on PS+ to continue the tradition.

Yep. Lot of concern trolling here. Honestly, I think this a far bigger deal in Europe than the US as sim racers traditionally do better here, but we are used to heavy delays so its not as big a deal.

Saying that, there is no ignoring the embrassment factor a delay so close to launch presents.

Personally id be more pissed if NFS got delayed. Driveclub ehh.

I personally hope the PS+ changes to knack as that really is a game built for plus. Honestly though, its probably going to be another smaller game/indie.

The DC PS+ freebie isn't even the full game.

I'm sure most consumers will understand the subtle differences and take time to absorb the alternatives that Sony provides

Or they'll simply think 'hey I'm not getting that driveclub game anymore, what are you going to give me instead?'

People don't care that it was a slightly cut-down version of the game. I'd be happy for Sony to give away a 'slightly cut down' version of Knack, but the likelihood is that they don't have one, and it isn't the kind of game that would suit cutting down anyway.

So while Sony may want to replace like for like, they may not have the luxury of choice. If true, they need to damage control, and they have 24-48 hours to respond to the web articles

Maybe the PS+ edition will release on launch but the full game won't be out till next year.

I was thinking this as well. Perhaps they could take the beta they have been showing off, try to polish it up and give that exclusively to PS+ members and delay the game until 2014.

Maybe the PS+ edition will release on launch but the full game won't be out till next year.

But the PS+ edition was still going to be fully featured like the full game, just with less cars and tracks. If this delay is true, it's because the game is not ready and so the PS+ edition is also not ready.

This is not what they'll be doing, but for racing fans like me it would be a great compensation:

All their demos have been time trials. So they could prepare a time trial demo with one or more tracks using their latest build, which we saw was looking great in the Chile video.

They could offer this to PS+ only and use the demo as a competition with some nice prizes to the fastest drivers.

There is the possibility that Evo right now doesn't know if they are delaying it ir releasing it, or, for how long the delay will be. Announcing a delay and not knowing for how long may be worse to say than we're delaying until spring.

Did they promise it at launch? You can still get it when it releases, if it gets delayed anyway.

Yep
