TheSameCoin Rumor: DriveClub delayed till 2014

damn; don't have this pre-ordered but a couple of my friends will be pissed if true...first watchdogs and now (possibly) this? feel bad for the peole who only pre-ordered those.

It was unnecessary imo. PS4 possibly having better looking multiplats at launch just takes the discussion into console war territory and tries to cover up the impact that Driveclub not being there at launch can have on racing game fans that were getting a PS4.

"We've got a solution for those who want to enjoy some next-gen racing on a console. It's called Gran Turismo 6 for PS3."

Yes, that is a reference to Don Mattrick's comment (about how X360 is great for those who want to game offline).

They'll still be getting a PS4 for a few multiplats an improved Driveclub a few months later and an improved Watchdogs a month or two after that.

I wasn't aware the topic had shifted to an outright cancellation of the game.

So a delay isn't going to cause some to wait to get a PS4 -- possibly even doing so after the games are released?

I'm not trying to say that this will be the "worst thing ever" but I just don't see how some can dismiss it like it's not important. The game was pretty much the face of the racing genre on the PS4 at launch-- almost as much as Forza 5 is for the Xbox One.

Need for Speed is bigger than both. (Not sure why it's being ignored, in all these talks about racers.)

GT is bigger still and pretty much will always be the face of the racing genre on PS.

DriveClub is big, in relative terms. If it wasn't a launch title (which it may not be) and/or exclusive, people likely wouldn't shower it with attention. Same goes with Ryse, Dead Rising; Killzone too really. These are realistically smallfry franchises in the limelight due to circumstance.

Will it have some impact, sure. Is it a #gamechanger. Not seeing it.

A straight port of GT6 with no improvements in comparison to the PS3 would have sold many PS4s -- especially for people who are coming from the Xbox 360.

The series is that big.

are you getting a PS4..? or did the (unconfirmed) delay of #Driveclub change something..?

At the very least, people that play racing games exclusively have zero reason to get a PS4 at launch with GT6 on PS3 and Forza on XB1.

Nope.

This fact is a feature of the PS4, and why many consider the Xb1 do be a dog in comparison. It is not console war territory, it is being an educated consumer.

Unless there is another gpu to be unlocked, or MS puts out a new piece of hardware, the bed has been made for Xb1.

Driveclub being delayed is not good at all, but it cannot change this landscape.

Twitter @PlayStationNL reports that tomorrow, all Dutch retailers will get the 'final/latest information' about PS4 bundles.

*PlayStationNL is the Dutch PlayStation Twitter account

This is strange.

Maybe they don't want to announce the delay so close to the Watch_Dogs delay? That's a one-two punch of disappointment for the PS4 launch.
The problem is- the further away they get from Ubi announcing WD's delay, the closer they get to the actual PS4 launch. :/

On the other hand, maybe there really isn't a delay and they just don't want to comment on the rumors?
Sony has been weird about that. On some things you have Yoshida coming right out denying rumors. On others, they are more silent. Remember when many assumed PS4 would have DRM simply because Sony didn't comment on rumors that it would have it post-Adam Orth? "They are not commenting! It must be true!"

Either way, they should confirm or deny this ASAP.

I'm sure if this is true, sorting out the logistics (what to do with bundles, whether or not to offer another incentive for PS+, if so how will they work it out with the devs of the new incentive game, when to delay the game to, can they salvage the game by launch, can they make the game digital only thus giving devs more time etc) would take quite a bit of time. If it's true, I'm sure heads are rolling and people are rushing to figure stuff out ASAP. If it's not, I don't know why they'd just not say anything.

My best case scenario about what's going on is that the game may or may not be done by launch and they're trying to figure out if they can just crunch or whether they should delay it. Either way, I think a physical release won't happen at launch. If they make it digital only they can have the game ready by early November instead of right now when disks need to be pressed and shipped en masse.

Or they could do the Forza 5 thing of pressing an incomplete game on disks and require a day 1 update.

If someone cancelled his preorder over an unconfirmed rumor, that's a stupid move.
Even if true, you don't know what Sony is gonna put in the balance to try to keep people happy, and you're not gonna get back your place in the preorders queue.

I can't see it being anywhere near enough of a difference to see it as a dog unless looking through it as a fan.

such a difference will be seen but judging by pc you need a hell of a lot more than that to really get big differences.

if something massively underpowered like a wii can do well then nothing has been made or decided yet or for some years yet I suspect.

They could do a PS+ release of a "GT5 Prologue"-type game, then do the full release next year. It would save some face and stick to their PS+ promises.

Need for Speed is bigger than both. (Not sure why it's being ignored, in all these talks about racers.)

NFS is a more popular franchise since it's a long running EA multiplat, but exclusive racing games at launch that go for a more realistic style are constantly used as graphical showcases for a console during its launch.

Reports even show that exclusive racing games do well at launch for that reason alone. So to not have one at launch is a missed opportunity.

Well my view is that with losing Watchdogs and Driveclub I have 2 less reasons to want a PS4 on launch and could invest the time in my PS3 instead, which has yet to experience a good number of games like The Last of Us and GT6.

GTA5 also needs to be completed, along with many other titles like LA Noire, Ico HD and Okami HD.

The launch day bundle is pretty good though and I will most probably keep my preorder just to experience the next gen this year!

Today is October 17th.

The system is out in less than a month. They don't have many choices if they want it to be there day 1. If they are still having problems then they either have to delay it, or continue working on it and issue a patch day 1. But that still only leaves a month which to me doesn't seem like enough time if these problems are a big enough issue to delay it.

To me personally, it is a terrible design locked in the past. Also, the ratio of esram to ram is terrible, and the cost is hundreds of $ too high for what it offers.

I think we will see quite a separation in the years to come. Enough to cause a stir. Not to mention the effects of a new CEO and division shake up. I think we are in for an interesting couple of years for MS and xbox. Time will tell.

If they give everyone Knack, what are they going to do to sweeten the pot again for the Japanese audience that they're making wait for the console?

Shhuei Yoshida needs to be held responsible. His management of the 1st party has been poor considering they are launching new hardware. Unless this a strategy to not compete with there partners at launch and let them shine.

So here we are, still chasing our tails. Question to all: Don't insiders normally back each other up? How is it that Mortimer has been left to shoulder this all alone? No one else seems to be supporting or contradicting it!

Shuhei should be held responsible for a development team (supposedly) running into problems or falling behind on progress?

Racing-game aficionados: If this delay is true, does it change your day one purchase? ie. Would you now buy an Xbox One for Forza (or no console at all)? I can't answer, as I rarely play racing games that don't contain Mario.
No. I'll be super bummed out (I already am), but I'll wait patiently. Other than Forza Horizon, which I loved, I've never cared too much for Forza.

I'm almost considering NFS Rivals... Almost...'

They need to secure something to replace it on PS+. If they don't do one of their own titles it could take some serious work.
Guessing they need a new PS+ game before they can announce it.
Good point, but time is running out. I hope they figure something out fast.

Isn't Friday usually a good bad news day since the weekend softens the blow? Or something like that? I'd imagine it would be then.
Could be, could be.

You aren't serious.

The Wii's incredible popularity was based on it's motion controls and it's accessibility.

Even with Kinect the Xbone isn't being aimed squarely at the same audience that Nintedo were chasing with the Wii.

Yeah true it will.

For me the biggest concern is not the gap between them but the huge gap between them and high end pc specs.

It seems next is moving on on that platform before they even arrive. For pc gamers there isn't any jump to experience. That being the case I've given up caring and am just getting them both for the games as they arrive.

Driveclub being delayed is not good at all, but it cannot change this landscape.

So people who bought PS2s weren't "educated consumers" then?

No, they were educated consumers -- they just cared more about actual game content vs. having better looking multiplats. The same will remain true for this upcoming gen especially with the more mainstream gaming audience.

I mean, if what you said is true, the PS4 will be the first Playstation console to have better looking multiplats than the competition (at least based on the system's specs) but yet the brand as a whole is popular and has obviously done well. That in itself shows that many people don't care about better looking multiplats (well, as long as the difference doesn't look like a complete generation gap).

So to use that to say why the XB1 is "doomed" is a bit ironic considering that the last 3 Playstations never had the best looking multiplats but yet the brand as a whole is still popular due to exclusive console gaming content/features.

What realistic sim racers have released at console launches in the past? (Notwithstanding that I don't think DriveClub is meant to be a sim racer?)

And.. what reports are you referring to...?

Ridge Racer 7 sold 75K in the US from the PS3's launch through January. Less than Madden, Call of Duty 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Need for Speed (which sold twice as much), Tony Hawk, NBA7, NBA 2K7, Tiger Woods, Fight Night Round 3; and Resistance.

The only racing game numbers for the 360 launch I can find right now are for Need for Speed which did 108K first month, but was also available on the PS2. Ridge Racer 6 didn't chart.

Amazing! After 1 day and 72 pages about a rumor people demand heads. I just love GAF!

If this is true does that mean the ps4 is literally launching with 2 exclusives? Knack and Killzone? surely that must be seen as weak?

It IS weak. I guess they're just going off the fact that the PS4 is probably still going to sell out everywhere throughout the holidays. Doesn't make it any worse for us, though. I thought 3 was a little small, so this just seems bad.

Imagine Sony will replace DC with Knack....will that even be possible? I mean, it makes sense to include a racer with less cars and tracks, but I can't imagine getting a platform game with less levels, powers etc. I can't imagine Sony giving us the full game ( although that would be awesome )

well, two retail exclusives. there are some downloadable titles that are PS4 only. Although I can only think of Resogun as an example right now.

But, yeah, Driveclub filled out the lineup a bit. Always nice to have a shiny new racing game at launch.

I think Yosp should step down and let Shahid take the reigns.

And you know about the all the details and inner workings of the company how?

Yep, get rid of Yosp who has a incredible track record with the company and who is responsible for great 1st party output over the last few years and replace him with Shahid who you've just heard of in the last year. Thank god you aren't in charge.

It's not literally launching with 2 exclusives. There's a bunch of them. Even more, if you consider "exclusive if you ignore PC", "exclusive on next gen" and "timed exclusive" stuff.

Also, Resogun is pure exclusive.

I think they'll base their choice of replacement, if any, on the number of preorders of DC and it will be an indie. Which is better for me as I'm not interested in arcade racers.

What realistic sim racers have released at console launches in the past? (Notwithstanding that I don't think DriveClub is meant to be a sim racer?)

I didn't say straight up realistic sim racers -- just racing games that went for a more realistic style in comparison to "straight up arcade".

PGR3 did well during the Xbox 360's launch. Many got the game due to its dashboard view alone (again, further proving my "graphical showcase" point).

There was a report posted here in a thread on GAF talking about why racing games are great to have for console launches not that long ago (maybe a year or two). I'll try to find it.
