TheSameCoin Rumor: DriveClub delayed till 2014

well, two retail exclusives. there are some downloadable titles that are PS4 only. Although I can only think of Resogun as an example right now.

But, yeah, Driveclub filled out the lineup a bit. Always nice to have a shiny new racing game at launch.

Need for Speeds a racing game. Doesn't it count for something? Also Octodad is dl exclusive.

It's not literally launching with 2 exclusives. There's a bunch of them. Even more, if you consider "exclusive if you ignore PC", "exclusive on next gen" and "timed exclusive" stuff.

Also, Resogun is pure exclusive.

If you are a PC gamer looking to buy a console, what is the list of PS4 exclusives? Apparently there are a bunch of them, but I am fairly certain you can only count them on one hand.

I think Resogun is the only FULLY exclusive PSN game at launch.

So people who bought PS2s weren't "educated consumers" then?

No, they were educated consumers -- they just cared more about actual game content vs. having better looking multiplats. The same will remain true for this upcoming gen especially with the more mainstream gaming audience.

I mean, if what you said is true, the PS4 will be the first Playstation console to have better looking multiplats than the competition (at least based on the system's specs) but yet the brand as a whole is popular and has obviously done well. That in itself shows that many people don't care about better looking multiplats (well, as long as the difference doesn't look like a complete generation gap).

So to use that to say why the XB1 is "doomed" is a bit ironic considering that the last 3 Playstations never had the best looking multiplats but yet the brand as a whole is still popular due to exclusive console gaming content/features.

Yeah, not sure how anybody is doomed this gen, not even the WiiU.

Heck Sega even took two gens to die, started with Saturn, ended with Dreamcast.

Nobody is teh doomed, people just have preferences, and both systems will sell extremely well, and people will have fun(I know it's hard to believe, but it's true).

Why do you continue to compare the the Xbox one to the ps2 they are in no way similar. Maybe you don't remember back then even though you claim to be such a ps2 fan back then but ps2 had tons more exclusives than Xbox and not many games were multiplatform. So of course people choose the ps2 if they wanted to play the biggest games at release they didn't have a choice.

While you may put great weight into forza ryse and dead rising in making your purchase they in no way hold the same weight as titles like gta3 ffx and mgs2. And those are just the 3 biggest exclusive the ps2 had over the competition.

smart of sony to moneyhat some indies, it really could fill the void left by the poor retail lineup if driveclub would really be delayed.

I think Yosp should step down and let Shahid take the reigns.

It's the lack of focus on the Sony new hardware. The first party drought on vita all the mega releases on PS3 this year which is not bad but it came at the cost of the PS4 launch. And I don't care about bigger user base. First party games are there to drive hardware sales the PS3 is going to sell nothing will drive that harder than a price cut (not his fault they haven't).

I hear him say the teams have freedom and they do what they want. That's good to a certain extent but at the cost of there hardware launches???

This is the list of launch titles:

The PS4 remaining 2013 launch lineup says otherwise.

>Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag
>Basement Crawl
>Battlefield 4
>Blacklight: Retribution
>Call of Duty: Ghosts
>Contrast
>Counterspy
>DC Universe Online
>DiveKick
>Doki Doki Universe
>FIFA 14
>Flower
>Hohokum
>Just Dance 2014
>Killzone: Shadow Fall
>Knack
>LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
>Madden NFL 25
>Minecraft
>N++
>NBA 2K14
>NBA Live 14
>Need for Speed Rivals
>Pinball Arcade
>PlanetSide 2
>Pool Nation Extreme
>Resogun (Free w/ Plus)
>Skylanders Swap Force
>Super Motherload
>Tiny Brains
>War Thunder: Ground Forces
>Warframe
Injustice: Ultimate Edition

I think they'll be alright.

Bolded ones are not coming to WiiU//Xbone, remove PC games from that list and you get your list.

Times are different, launches are aligned, more significant performance separation, and we are in an HD world now.

The difference between these two consoles that launch in the same few weeks are significant enough to be noticed and spread throughout the gaming community.

It is a done deal, it just a matter of MS mitigating the separation. Time will tell.

yeah totally agree with that. I do think specs and the brand will see a big win for sony again but I think the others can do ok.

Shhuei Yoshida needs to be held responsible. His management of the 1st party has been poor considering they are launching new hardware. Unless this a strategy to not compete with there partners at launch and let them shine.

Why launch with KZ then? Going up against BF and COD doesn't seem like the best choice in that case.

I didn't say straight up realistic sim racers -- just racing games that went for a more realistic style in comparison to "straight up arcade".

PGR3 did well during the Xbox 360's launch. Many got the game due to its dashboard view alone (again, further proving my "graphical showcase" point).

There was a report posted here in a thread on GAF talking about why racing games are great to have for console launches not that long ago (maybe a year or two). I'll try to find it.
I can't find any sales data for PGR3 that would lead one to determine how well it did and don't really find anecdotes useful as any sort of proof of market situtations, so if you can find these report(s) then that would be useful. I don't really know why anyone would commission a report on something so specific... Also, if it's the sole example then it really doesn't help the idea that "a racer graphical showpiece is particularly useful and/or necessary at a console launch."

There are graphical showcases on both of these systems at launch, racing or otherwise. And beyond a few exclusives (Killzone and Forza essentially) that the early adopters may consolidate around, I expect on both consoles software sales will be driven largely by third party multiplatform software.

EDIT: Just looking at the NBA 2K14 thread, that's looking to be something of a graphical showpiece for instance, and sports games have been prominent/dominant at past launches.

I am surprised that people are making more of a fuss for the DriveClub delay than the Watch Dogs one. DriveClub needs to get better but Ubisoft is just too greedy. They want to target 6.3 milliion units and they think they cannot make it on 6 different platforms this November? And since it's multiplatform all gamers should be pissed. That's why I am just seeing this whole DriveClub incident as a cheap excuse for Xbox fanboys to get back to the Sony ones. Everyone needs to chill.

Okay, this is a wild hunch....

Say Driveclub is indeed delayed into 2014. With the recent announcement of inFamous: SS Limited/CE this morning.....what if......WHAT IF...they announced inFamous: SS as a launch title.

I don't know, would be cool though!

That would be brilliant if they did, only if the game was ready though.

It was unnecessary imo. PS4 possibly having better looking multiplats at launch just takes the discussion into console war territory and tries to cover up the impact that Driveclub not being there at launch can have on racing game fans that were getting a PS4.

You're making a huge assumption that people are only going to keep their pre-orders if Driveclub is at launch and disregarding the appeal of multiplatform games.

PS4 having the better versions of multiplat games is not console war territory it is pretty much a given at this point.

A PS+ early access demo at launch should be enough for me.

The understanding is that the PS4 will be stacked with first-party exclusives for the length of its lifespan. Front-loading the launch with up-scaled PS3 games doesn't seem like it would make that much of a difference in the long run. Enthusiasts will buy the PS4 at launch. Those on the fence will likely wait until some more heavy hitters come. If the responses in these threads are to be believed, that will be as soon as early spring 2014.

How does giving the PS3 continued support through this year damage the PS4's launch? The PS4 launch is going to be huge- with or without Watch_Dogs & DriveClub. What matters is constant PS4 hardware sales through next year into next holiday season- and beyond. All indications point to strong, staggered exclusive releases for PS4 next year, which should keep sales healthy consistently.

I just don't understand how you can blame Yoshida for not abandoning PS3 owners. Sony will have a great holiday with both PS4 and PS3 (and maybe Vita :p) sales. PS3 will quietly retire next year and the PS4 will be hitting the ground running this November. It's a great strategy, IMO.

Shhuei Yoshida needs to be held responsible. His management of the 1st party has been poor considering they are launching new hardware. Unless this a strategy to not compete with there partners at launch and let them shine.

Nonsense. Yoshida is a big reason Sony is in such good position with PS4.

So far, Sony has had an excellent launch year. No launch is flawless, but Sony has had fewer hiccups that it's competitors. From the initial PS4 reveal in Feb. Sony has been executing extremely well. Compared to Microsoft, Sony had the better reveal, better E3, better Gamescom, better TGS. Sony is launching in 2013 in more countries that I would have thought possible. The launch window game lineup (Sony + 3rd party publishers + Indies) is quite deep and varied.

Now something was bound to go wrong, as you can't escape Murphy's Law. It looks Driveclub was that something. If they can keep the delay on Driveclub reasonable and keep Driveclub in the launch window, the damage, though significant, will be minimized. If Driveclub slips 6 or more months (like Watch Dogs), then the problem is a bigger one.

Calm down, dude. You might not care, but a company like Sony does... Their big first party releases for PS3 are funding their next gen output. How can anyone be so short sighted?

Those consumers dead-set on getting a PS4 at launch are not going to be affected by this at all, but those who are still trying to decide between the two will have an easier time of it if this is true. I was buying a PS4 at launch specifically at launch for the very two games now delayed, so for me there is very little value benefit in getting a PS4 now on the 15th. But since I do typically buy at least one new console at launch, so the lost of Driveclub does level the play field a bit for me in Microsoft's favor since if anything I can get Forza now to fill the void Driveclub is leaving open.

If true, moving it away from GT6 and NFS Rivals wouldn't be the worst decision. Would help with the post console launch slump also.

I trust Evolution and have nothing but love for all three MotorStorm games (and RC). Man, I'd kill for PS4 ports of those.

I hope Knack is the game they offer for free.

That game has always been intriguing to me and I was gonna wait for reviews.

Offer it for free and I will consider that a HUGE win.

The "apparently it was the most major PS4 game for you guys" posts are funny.

What if someone was getting a PS4 for Watchdogs, Driveclub, and a few multiplats?

All they have now are multiplats and some will (& have) made the decision to just stick with the system(s) they currently have when it comes to multiplats due to it being cheaper.

So yeah, Driveclub is a big game -- racing game fans were looking forward to it on their PS4.

Driveclub was a game to get on PS4, not a game to get a PS4 for. I was excited for it, yes, but you will not find many who were getting a PS4 exclusively for Driveclub...It was an interesting game you could try before buying.

WatchDogs affects both systems, so if someone was only getting a PS4 for these two games and multiplats (which you would assume they were buying a PS4 for multiplats because they could be better) do you think they are going to cancel their preorder for Forza, what could be inferior multiplats, and a more expensive system? They will probably settle, as you said.

Most fans of the game have accepted that this will be good for the quality of the game and are more interested in what will replace it on Plus, instead of freaking out over it. Others are jumping all over this cause there is finally bad PS4 news and are concern trolling as Bish put it.

It was a racing option, a great get for Plus, but it wasn't driving systems on its own.

Calling for Shuhei to step down?

Thread has officially gone past the point of no return.

This thread is becoming a little bit of a joke isn't it?

I rechecked the launch list and to be honest there's more than enough to keep gamers interested until Spring next year.

In many ways it is a blessing as I can now play Gran Turismo 6 and dedicate some real time to it!

Just hope Knack is pretty good!
