I feel so sad for Nintendo. I really, really want to love them. They have the incredible 3DS which to me is shaping up to be the best handheld of all time (well certainly up there) and they have so many great franchises that I grew up playing.
I've had every Nintendo console since the NES, which was actually my dads and I used to stay up late at night sometimes watching him play Mario when I was little. My first memorable gaming experience was on the SNES with Donkey Kong Country and I too was like N64 Kid when I opened my N64 on Christmas morning. Playing Lylatt Wars and Mario 64 was incredible. Ever since I have got their systems on launch day or in the launch window. So I have a strong affinity to Nintendo.
Then they have the WiiU which I want to love. But it seems Nintendo don't quite know what to do with it.
There are so many points to get across with this new system and I don't think they know how to do it or what to focus on. So the DS had dual screens, that was the key selling feature. The Wii was motion control, anyone can play, that was the key selling feature. On WiiU what's the key selling feature? Is it the gamepad? Is it the 1080P output? MiiVerse? The idea of it being an all in one box which gives you games and your Netflix etc?
I think Nintendo should pull out of the whole aspiring to be the all in one entertainment device and solely concentrate on the games. For example, look at Netflix. It's not the best Netflix experience available, but it's the newest and surely if you are the newest you should be the best!
Games Nintendo. Show us the games and yes they will come but scrap the idea of being this all in one device that's going to compete with PS4 and the next Xbox.
