To be serious for a second, I've never really understood why people use "it looks like Call of Duty" as if it's some sort of inherent attack.
It really is true that Titanfall's shooting and on-ground movement "feel" is a lot like Call of Duty.
But....why are some using that as an assumed bad thing? I've seen it both from people who like Titanfall - "It's not like Call of Duty!" - and people who don't like Titanfall - "It looks like Call of Duty!"
I didn't think anyone actually has a problem with Call of Duty's shooting or movement. For what it's trying to do, it does it extremely well. It's why so many people who hate Call of Duty today absolutely loved Call of Duty 4. It's not like the shooting and movement mechanics have gotten worse, it's that the rest of the game around those mechanics haven't changed at all.
Now, finally, Titanfall is introducing a massive amount of innovation and change around those shooting and movement mechanics, including a lot of extra mobility. Great! Isn't that what everyone wanted ever since they got bored with the Call of Duty formula? Why are some people acting like the shooting and movement mechanics in Call of Duty are the problem? You shouldn't fix what isn't broken.
I absolutely can not wait for it to come out, and I have no problem admitting that the core gun play feels a lot like Call of Duty. Like you, I don't see that as a bad thing. In terms of shooters, Call of Duty routinely has the tightest shooting mechanics.
The major 4 things I've had a problem with in virtually all Call of Duty games are lag/host advantage, short kill times, poor map design, and awful spawn systems.
Titanfall has eliminated all of that (except for maybe the short kill times, but I love games like Gears and Killzone that take a bit to kill the player) while maintaining a lot of the same game play qualities that makes Call of Duty so popular even with the same problems every year.
Mix in the added depth of the wall running, double jump, and the Titans and you've got a spiritual successor to Call of Duty, which IMO, is what they were aiming for. The next evolutionary step to what they originally built with the early Modern Warfare games.
