Shit, you could argue MCU was jumping the gun in this regard with IM2, the movie was way too far up its own avenger-spreckled-ass to be much more than okayish. IM 1 and 3
I will fight you
had none of that and were much better for it. Too bad WB did not see the lessons learned from that.
All other Phase 1 movies managed to relegate universe-building to easter eggs, Coulson cameoes and postcredits scenes.

Well when you say "all other phase 1 movies," you're only talking about two movies, unless you're counting Incredible Hulk. Cap did a good job with it, true, but Thor had a totally gratuitous Hawkeye intro where he doesn't even really interact with Thor or have a role in the story.

I always thought it was weird how Hawkeye wasn't involved in the fight with The Destroyer. At least Natasha did stuff in the third act of IM2.

You guys remember this? Kill the Snyderverse, do a Fourth TDK film while figuring things out for a future DCEU?

"My understanding is that this is the last one. I think it's appropriate, I think it's going out at the right time," he said. "But...if Chris came to me with a script and said, 'You know what? There is another story' then I would love the challenge of making a fourth one work."

Although Marvel did go on to do the whole Thor-takes-a-bath-in-vision-pool thing in AoU, so even they hadn't completely learned.

This is true! Awkward scene, for sure. Could've easily been the post-credits stinger if it was revised a bit. 'Something happened on the way to Thor's Hot-tub'

The fire rises.

On the real, between TDKR's massive drop in quality from the first two AND suggesting Snyder to spearhead a Superman reboot, Nolan is a pretty mixed bag

Just read the first page and the source seemed questionable. 17 pages later tho, I'm guess it's legit?

Also who could he play in the mcu?

Do the right thing and hire Jon Hamm as his replacement

I bet Hamm would be more interested in doing a Batman 66 throwback movie than whatever the heck the current DCEU is. He really seems to like doing comedy.

You people already begging for Nolan to come back? Pfft, he don't care.

I have my doubts of the veracity of these rumors, but if true, I wouldn't blame him. I understand it was a dream of his to portray Batman, and shit didn't work out. Despite that he was the best part of BvS, and has to be the best part of League (because I mean really, that cast....). Walk away with your head high and go win another Oscar making a film you love.

I want a Batman movie where Bruce died years ago and it's Alfred in the Batsuit talking to himself at home.

Full-on Smegal/Golom talking to himself in shot/reverse shot.

Zack Snyder better make the Snyderest (coolest) Justice League film imaginable if he's to counter the deflating hype over the universe, and with this news, provided it transpires, will definitely crush WW and JL's hype even more. I want him to be our lord and savior, with people looking up to him and saying 'SAVE US!' and with him looking down and whispering 'eat my dick!'. I want JL to be 80+ % on RT and make a billion. I WANT IT!

I do too. It would be fantastic if Justice League is an amazing film. But if it sucks I'll enjoy what a botchjob they've made of the DCEU.

Win-win.

Well, any hope Campea had of this ever going away just fucking died:

Vulture's thinkpiece/thumbsucker on how Affleck taking a hike would be good for WB because it forces their hand into blowing up and starting fresh.

(bonus points to Betty for the opening graf containing a link to Sad Affleck.)

Not only built off the back of Campea's reluctant scoop, but specifically citing him by name. So this is now a story, which means at some point someone's going to push WB or Affleck's PR to deny this officially. Of course, even denying will give the story a little extra shine, which is just more bad vibes around an already damaged universe.

I'm watching today's Collider Movie News video on YouTube and so far he hasn't even brought it up... I don't think he's going to. What a twat.

Only thing he said was that he heard a guy on the street saying it was gonna rain and that everyone should go write about it lol..dick.

Welp.

That's what you get for starting a DC Cinematic Universe from the middle. Seriously, Origin movies first, Justice League second.

Origin movies first, Justice League second.

No.

You don't have to do it that way.

Origin movies are largely boring

Origin stories are largely boring.

Everyone in the world knows what the fuck a superhero is. You don't need to explain the concept to us for 80 minutes first. Much less build a whole movie around the superhero NOT being a superhero only to tell us he'll finally be the superhero we wanna watch in the second movie.

Just start at the second movie.

This shit isn't hard. Nobody's going to get lost if there's a Superman movie where Superman is just Superman at the beginning. Nobody's going to be hopelessly confused by a Batman movie where Batman's just Batman.

It's all about making a continuity for the larger audience and making us like the characters behind the heroes. When I watched Superman Returns I didn't care AT ALL about this guy claiming to be Superman. Who is this? He came out of nowhere. I don't care about him. Ben Affleck's Batman came out of nowhere. I never saw him before, I don't know him, his motivations, what happened to him in this universe. I just don't care hence why I don't care about the movie either.

Making Origins movies are a must for making us relate to the characters. The excitement that comes after when we see them all coming together later is what made Avengers so great.

Yikes, even if it's true I'm sure WB was hoping to gag it before Justice League (or even Wonder Woman for that matter) comes out. The news will have a serious box office impact on those films. That being said, if the rumour really is spreading like wildfire, they sure weren't very careful keeping it hidden.

Hell, do a montage sequence over the opening credits if you must scratch that itch.

Bullshit.

You can relate to characters just fine without watching 80 minutes of them struggling to figure out how to incorporate their powers into their life.

Most people fall in love with these superheroes without knowing shit about their origins.

People talk about these characters like it's hard to like them without the proper knowledge going into it. Most of us managed it just fine at age 4 without a handy guide stepping us through the rote checklist on the way to superhero status.

If the writers and directors can't get you to like Superman within five minutes of Superman being onscreen, that's their bad. Doesn't matter where in his life the story is happening.

Yeah I'm gunna say if you feel like you need an origin story for the purpose of relating to the audience, you're doing something wrong. Not to say you can't make an origin story that's relatable and/or effective, but it's not necessary.

Relatability has nothing to do with whether or not we see the beginning of a character's story.

I think something similar to Batman Begins would work. You start with the character already being a superhero and then flash back and give us their origin piecemeal throughout the movie.

Basically combine the first and second movie into one.
