Oh wow, I didn't even know that many remix of Song of the Night Sparrow existed.

And what about a dark ambient\noise arrange? Uh? Why is everyone avoiding me I swear I also listen to music that, well, sounds nice. Sometimes.

I love Lumpy's albums but I can't really reccomend them without looking like a freak ;_; Loving noise music is suffering.

There aren't really that many At the End of Spring arranges out there, and I've yet to find one that really shines about the others. :( It's one of my favourites Stage 1 theme in the entire series but it doesn't get the love that it deserves.

Do you mean PoFV or the k-waves LAB album?

I guess he's talking about the k-waves LAB album, if I remember correctly upandaway is a fan of his, and rightfully so. :P

Since we're talking about music I'd like to share on of the best circle I've found in these last months (and I've found plenty of them), Lunatico: The Fantastic Legend of Tohno (PCB Stage 2's Theme)

Yayane's voice is beautiful and I love how she avoids to fossilize on a certain style, continously experimenting with both her vocal style and the musical styles, though always mantaining an ethereal and dreamlike atmosphere.

There is also this Maiden's Capriccio's arrange (the link goes to my tumblr since I can't find the track on youtube), which shows well what I was trying to say I think.

Demetori does At the End of Spring
CC Style also has a great arrange, but it's not on Youtube. What a shame.

Edit: One of the funniest things to do is read the Youtube comments of Touhou arranges that became popular for whatever reason.

I'm personally really fond of this

Fantaisie in B Flat Minor by As/Hi Soundworks

Normally I don't like these kind of remixes but I think it works really well here.

Also, does anyone know any good Old Yuanxian remixes? I can't find any, they all just sound like retooled versions of ZUN's version. It's probably one of the few times where I actually want a remix that takes only one part of a song and makes a song around that.

The only one I've liked so far is Blue Fiction by TAMUSIC is because it does exactly that, and maybe the Hellion Sounds version (only because it adds a section of Desire Drive at the end). Anyone got any recommendations?

If I'm interpreting this correctly, you want something that isn't simply ZUN's Old Yuanxian with different instruments?
Demetori strikes again lol. I dunno if fits your taste but it does fit the requirement, haha.

Edit: If you want something that's centered around the song's chorus, well I dunno. Try searching for something electronic, like trance.

Already have Demetori's version, still not really to my taste tbh (though I still think they're cool for trying). I'm okay with either a track that's centered only around the chorus or is a full remix, as long as the latter doesn't sound exactly the same as the original but with different instruments as every single Old Yuanxian remix sounds like.

Might try looking using your genre suggestions

What a fantastic version of Old Yuanxian!

I have never disliked a remix by either k-waves LAB and Floating Point (and maybe Dark Phoenix too).

Damn LoL fans, ruining everything.

jk this exposure is nice. League has a few Touhou references as well but that probably goes over the majority's heads.

I'm not really into metal arranges. :( I listen to a lot (and I mean a lot) of black metal and derivates but I've never been too fond of others sub-genres, though I have to admit Demetori put a great deal of care in their arranges and in the production values.
I also don't listen to whatever genre CC*=Style do, trance maybe? :P
Though I love Asahi and emaru's arranges under the Halozy circle, like this Interdimensional Voyage of the Ghostly Passenger Ship arrange (which is another theme that is sadly underrated, ok there are a decent number of arranegs out there but I want more, I need them!), though I'm not sure it falls under the same style... And of course I vastly prefer their music as macaroom, but this doesn't concern Touhou at all.
I still dream the day when someone will release a dream pop arrange album though.

Hah I think I can help!
What about a picopo arrange from TUMENECO?
Warning: the high saccarinity of the music and vocals may cause cavities.

I forgot to mention about it but yeah it was presented at the event where Thouhou 14.5 was announced.
As before you can go over at Maidens of the Kaleidoscope's forum to find tons and tons of informations provided by the always great cuc, but I think I can at least link this video, you can see half of the screen but it shows the game. It's too bad that it probably will never a public release, it looks very fun.

good guess lol.

I found a website that hosts a ton of Touhou music, including the CC*=Style tracks you can't find on Youtube.
http://www.touhouradio.com/Player/
Ctrl-F "The Act of Nothing The End of Spring" - trance arrange of At the End of Spring. Imo you should still give it a shot.
Ctrl-F "CCC Disaster" - trance arrange of Captain Murasa with emphasis on atmosphere. This is the song that hooked me to CC*=Style; everyone should give it a shot.

Fyi trance is music that you listen to while doing other things like surfing the internet. If you stare at the webpage while listening to the song you're gonna get bored lol.

Edit:
Romantic Escape Flight's one of my favorites from ISC as well. This arrange is pretty cool.

Yep!

Well the PoFV soundtrack is good too although it's not in my favorites in the main series

edit: just checked out that touhou radio and man, that's really neat.

lol I posted Sparking Energy earlier in this thread.
All of CC* Style's stuff is really good trance. It's a shame a lot of their songs aren't on Youtube; CCC Disaster is amazing.
Sparking Energy
Memory of Sight
Urban Country of the Spirit World

Oh well I'm glad a good song got the recognition already that it deserves :P And yeah I agree CC* Style does some quite great music, Memory of Sight really makes me want to get into the games again :D I haven't played a Touhou game in years, maybe I should get around to it again :)

If you don't mind vocals, perhaps this one by Diao Ye Zong?

There's also this one by Tennenjemini that mixes both Old YuanXian and Rigid Paradise.

I DID IT. I FUCKING DID IT. I BEAT SUBTERRANEAN ANIMISM ON HARD. FUCK.

I cheaped out and used Marisa + Nitori though :lol

Went into Stage 5 with about 6 lives, left with 2. Went into Stage 6 with those 2 lives and died within 15 seconds so I was playing through the entire last stage on the brink of death.

Replay. (I'm using Dropbox because apparently Gensokyo.org has malware).

If anyone wants to watch the replay there's a desync bug for Stage 6 to watch out for.

touhouwiki.net said:
The replay desynchronization bug from Mountain of Faith still exists. It usually occurs in full-game replays on Utsuho's first non-spell when the replay is started from stage 6 or fast-forward is used anytime after the start of stage 6. Starting playback from an earlier stage can prevent this, provided no fast-forwarding is done after stage 6 starts.

Ahahahaha oh my god this run was INTENSE. Great job! I'm always amazed by your death bombing skills, your reaction time is truly excellent. And the fight against Utsuho had me litteraly on the edge of my chair, especially when you finished her last spell card using all your bombs and at your last life.

I have to admit I was doubtful regarding your choice of character since Reimu A is truly a powerhouse but I understimated Nitori's bomb + I guess the Satori fight was a walk in the park right after your MoF clear (and I don't even want to imagine how difficult Double Black Butterfly would be on hard).

Do you plan to move onto UFO now or you'll play SA some more?

I can't wait to watch this anime it looks so good hnnnnnngh.
Also it seems like the 4th episode of Fantasy Kaleidoscope was released at the Reitaisai too, I'm still not too happy about the amount of fanservice this series offer but the production values are stellar so I guess I'll watch this too when someone will release the english subs.

I have to finish all shot types on hard (Extra stage optional :P). That's the goal I set for myself, but I can at least see the light at the end of the tunnel. Gotta work on my Orin-pummeling skills though, she's the biggest threat. I think UFO will be a cinch compared to this.

I will suffer through the fanservice because its the only way I can see Touhou animated.

Can't wait for the first episode to come out!
I really hope the series focuses on Merry and Renko and their own stories as much as the regular game characters.

It's been a long time since I last watched the series, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember there being any fanservice scenes on the anime?

EDIT:

Isn't that the one where Yukari and Ran were naked in the hot springs?

I see.

One of the things I wish I would have learned when I first started playing this game. Moving while quick pressing and depressing focus can be very useful. One of TD's extra stage spellcard is much easier using this sort of movement, since it creates a speed "in between" slow and fast, sort to speak.

I don't know if it already has a name, but I call that pulsed focus. Can be very useful in certain situations but I tend not to do it because it's another thing you have to keep track of (how fast and how long you hold the focus button down for). I pulsed move instead (stutter the movement at full speed) but that can get dangerous with Marisa's fast move speed.

I feel like such a douchebag making up terms >_<

It's a good name, in my opinion.

I don't do it much either. But after having very low success rates in capturing "scrolls of frolicking animals", I had to rethink my methods. The problem was that not only were there three bullet types in differing speeds and directions at the same time, but one of them, the dog bullets, came for you, above you, and below you from the side. And if you stay focused, you are not fast enough to escape the dog above or below you. Which is possible to escape, btw, it's just that with so many things going on, your attention will be divided enough that it makes a huge difference. This was the only way to get a reasonable success rate. It takes a huge load off the mental division of labor while reasonably being able to dodge the row of birds that comes downwards while the frogs explode into a shower of bullets.

Haven't played TD so I can't help you with that specific spell card with finding additional strats, but I have sort of encountered the same thing with midboss Orin on Stage 6 of SA. She basically shoots out a vertical zig wag wave with gaps between each zig zag that you're meant to dodge by alternating moving right and left. With Reimu it's easy because conveniently her full speed matches the speed of the zig zags, but Marisa moves too fast unfocused and too slow unfocused, requiring some sort of pulsed movement to get an in-between speed and not die (or just blow bombs until she dead).

Toggling focus while maintaining control of your character is a pretty underrated intermediate technique (along with using unfocused movement as a "sidestep" or "quick dodge" when firing while focused).
IIRC you can also control your speed by moving diagonally along the edges of the screen. That is, moving down-right at the bottom of the screen will allow you to move slower than simply moving right.

For those interested, a bunch of Clash House (the artist behind Strange and Bright Nature Deity, Oriental Sacred Place and Fairy Wars) doujinshi just got translated. Most of them are centered around the Three Fairies of Light (though one of them stars Kosuzu), and tells a nice little origin story about how the fairies came to be friends.

Say guys, I have a question. Do any of you know why there are spell card practice in IN and TD, but not in any other games? That is so weird. It certainly makes practicing in other games more difficult. I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did in TD Extra boss without the spell card practice.

Imo it's because ZUN made a new game engine for TH10 and simply didn't get around to implementing spell practice for that engine until TH13. There's spell practice in TH14 as well.

Wish there was a way to retroactively put it in because beating Youmu without involving a million clip deaths is proving to be quiet troublesome. Her attacks are harder than Yuyuko's. I think ZUN got the stage order wrong or something. ;)

The stage 5 boss being harder than the stage 6 boss is a recurring trend in Touhou games.
Where are you experiencing clip deaths?

A lot of places. I have only mastered one spell and one non spell. The rest, well, they are insane. The first non spell, while doable, still gives me difficulty because of all the crisscrossing bullets that sometimes have narrow spaces. All the other spell cards consists of extremely dense and very fast waves of bullets that you only have a few precious seconds to dodge with the slow motion. It was quiet honestly a shock. TD's stage 5 boss was very easy in comparison. ^_^

Sounds like Youmu all right. Youmu is hard. Good luck!

Youmu's first non-spell in both its appearence in stage 5 (but not the stage 6 version) can be misdirected if you stay in the upper right corner of the screen when our beloved ghostly gardener appears. When she start shooting you have to quickly move down and then left and you should be able to avoid the first wave completely, for the second wave you've got to learn how to see the lane between the criss crossing bullets though, there is no trick for it.
If I failed to explain myself I could try to post a video on youtube later, and also note that I tested this method on both Normal and Hard, I don't know if it still works on Lunatic.

About the clip deaths when the slowmo kikcs in the only advice I can give you is to learn the hitboxes of the various bullets better than your own name and try to move without focusing, you've got to be bold and tackle the cloud of doom like it's no big deal. Even tough it's the biggest deal of the whole game outside of Merlin's opening non-spell.

I've read about this on tumblr some time ago but then proceeded to postpone reading it, guess I've found something to do this evening!

Oh yeah, regarding the first non spell, I know what you are talking about. I have recently tried implementing it after having seen a youtube video. Although implementation is a bit of a crap shoot because sometimes I get trapped inside the wave of bullets because of bad timing.

Thanks for the tips!

Touhou 14.5 Urban Legend in Limbo is a collaboration between Team Shanghai Alice and Twilight Frontier. :O And the demo will be released on 29 December. :OOO

In a live stream today, it is confirmed Touhou 14.5 will be a sequel to HM, the previous fighting game, not an expansion pack.

This suggests it will reuse HM's engine and assets, with significant gameplay changes.

Twilight Frontier released a screenshot, showing a battle in front of Kourindou, the curio shop run by ZUN's pedantic and ineffectual self-insert character Morichika Rinnosuke, with character portraits drawn by Harukawa Moe (the artist of Forbidden Scrollery).

Oh dang, only a fighting game spin-off?

Well, I guess I should've expected that. I haven't given the fighting games a shot so I don't really have an opinion on them (the plan is to finish mainline STG then go back for spin-off and doujins. I got my eye on Touhou Labyrinth 2).
