I don't think we actually heard much on homophobia from him, but he did have Mike "zap the gay" Pence as his VP and the party was very hostile to LGBT rights with many specifically attacking bathroom use, so voting to get him in was still actively against their own best interests.

He campaigned on putting supreme court justices in that would get rid of same sex marriage
Also he was pro HB2, it wasn't just the party at large.

Short question: Yes he signed that ban, blabla, but has this ban actually any chance to stand up in court? Because it's obviously discriminatory. I would understand if trans persons would have to sign a waiver that the military can not be hold responsible if they fail to deliver hormones or other medications to active combat zones, but outright banning a person on grounds of their sexual identity would seems to me as an outsider unconstitutional.
