Twitch going out of its way to promote "boob streamers" ??

Nothing unusual on mine

Twitch tracking eye movement confirmed. "View history"...

OP, what do you have to say for yourself?

I and many other people here have posted our personally viewing history recommendations that feature some of the same female streamers that have been complained about by others regardless of not viewing the channels in question, or even the games they play.

Go try reading the thread.

There is nothing wrong with tank tops but I think the issue is the part of streamers who take it to extremes. I also think it's stupid to ban shirtless streaming for men but the control for women's streaming is still a bit off sometimes.

I'm fairly certain twitch bans women for going shirtless too, and men are more than welcome to wear tank tops.

It is one thing to say that their system sucks and another to imply that they are deliberately pushing "boob streamers", as OP implied. The entire premise is that this is a marketing ploy to push "teenage boys towards these boob streamers"? That seems very flimsy.

There are multiple examples in this thread from people who barely follow/view ANY content on Twitch that are getting recommended some of the same female streamers in question (i.e. ITS LIT FAM).

SOME people are not experiencing this, that's fine, there are examples of that too, but dismissing the handful of us that don't watch the streamers (or games) in question that are being promoted in this recommendation feed is flimsy too.

I wasn't serious. Maybe disable third-party cookies?

Also do people think Twitch has some sort of hidden tagging system of "this user shows boobs" which it uses to promote? More than likely its recommendations are based on other users viewing habits for the same channels you watch. So blame your fellow user for being drawn to the boobs, not twitch. Or don't, and blame Twitch. I don't actually care. Boobs are great, and it's not like anything on Twitch is more than I could see by looking out my window during the summer. Some y'all sound like conservatives with your judgement of modesty.

The fewer content you watch and/or follow, the more volatile will your recommendations be. I'm trying right now to see what recommendations I can get from just following two channels.

Edit:
Well, I'm not seeing any boob streamers here, other than ITS LIT FAM, on the video lists for me. I also get tons of other pointless recommendations, even though I almost exclusively watch MtG.

Nah, I'm not dismissing that people get these recommendations, I'm saying that the premise of Twitch pushing boob streamers for business reasons is flimsy. I don't follow Twitch enough to make an educated comment on its economy though. What seems much more likely is that their recommendation algorithm is simply not good, coupled with very limited data.

I'm ok with boobs, no problem here...

We should stop trying to act like girls don't use them to have more momentum, it's exactly what they're doing, in virtual/real life, no problem with this, we're doing the same with our muscle...

I like games,
I like girls,
I like boobs.

The fuck is the problem? Next people will be complaining about porn being on their Sky TV box which is also the same box which lets them watch Dexter and Storage Wars. Just don't watch it and stop being a baby about.

What I find more ridiculous is how Twitch is banning harmless butt emotes but games like Stick of Truth are allowed to be streamed. Ass backwards logic from them as always.

Well I consider myself a heavy Twitch user (I follow many, many channels for almost every game I ever play) that doesn't ever watch "boobstreamers" and I am getting them in my feed. There are enough examples like me that this is suspect. This isn't just a case of the lack of things for Twitch to recommend leading to them defaulting to the boob girls.

Actually that's interesting, for those of you getting all these garbage recommendations how many people are you following that actively stream? I think I only follow about 25 people, of which only like 5 of them still stream nowadays. I actually wonder if there is something else in play here as well, since I've seen a few Giant Bomb video recommendations (like currently) but I always watch GB streams on their website and not Twitch.

Would you complain if an advertisement for porn came on during an episode of Storage Wars? Because that's what's happening here (only to follow your stupid analogy, I'm not comparing boob streamers to porn). The complaint isn't that "OH NOES THARS BEWBZ ON TWITCH THINK OF TEH CHILLRENZ" the complaint is that the cleavage streams are being pushed on people that don't watch or want to watch them on a page that should just be a curated list of the games and streams they follow.

Thanks for being one of the many ignorant, reductive posters in this thread making this a war on boobs tho. Really good input.

A lot of the streamers I follow are active. The Giant Bomb guys sometimes run the Twitch player directly in their /chat page, so that could be activating a cookie that recommends them to you on Twitch proper.

Blame other users for their habits then, or get over it. Is cleavage really this bothersome to you?

I had to maximize my browser to see what was happening. This viewing history section is promoting the same few boobs streamers that others have already posted that have nothing to do with my viewing history mixed in with a couple of related channels.

I love boobs as much as the next man, but it's not what I go to Twitch for. I don't think it's too much to ask to actually show content relevant to someone's actual interest or history.

I go to Twitch to watch videogames and people playing videogames. Not to watch girls who happen to play videogames.

That's not to mention that some of the girls in question aren't particularly safe for work, not that anybody should be watching videogame streams at work in the first place.

It's simply a cross-section of Twitch that I don't want anything to do with and I don't want it thrust upon me by being advertised to me where it doesn't belong. It would be equally bothersome if GAF started running ads with women in bikinis on them. It's not appropriate for the content of the site.

Oh no, a woman with cleavage! Do you turn around in real life if you see a woman in a shirt showing some cleavage? Seriously.

Wait you go to twitch to watch videogames and people playing them, but wont watch a girl playing a game? Cause thats what that sounded like.

Others are not getting defaulted to boob streamers though and the premise, that boob streamers are better for their business, seems a bit flimsy (without actual data). Really, it just seems more likely that their recommendation system produces these results due to a shitty neural network, maybe fed limited, lopsided or shallow data. If you follow many channels for many games, then it's entirely possible that due to the weighting you might be shown these channels. That just seems more likely to me than Twitch rigging/ruining its own system for some to presumably push boob girls.

I'm not dismissing the notion that people are getting shitty recommendations or some people are getting mostly "boob streamers" recommended, I'm saying that I don't buy into the business premise. My recommendations are completely garbage. I just doubt they're doing that deliberately.

Yes it is when you want quick access to streamers you follow. Sifting through garbage you have no interest in to get to what you want to watch is a bother even if it's boobs in push up bras.
It's really not that complicated.

No, these things are not not equal at all. If they're playing games on twitch then they are appropriate for twitch as long as they are not nude. Now if someone's twitch channel was them swimming at the beach then you would have an argument.

Then I guess you're just going to have to suck it up and deal with this oh so difficult complication.

At first thought it doesn't really seem like a bad thing. Thinking on it, they may set a bad precedence for other female viewers. It's basically the same thing as fashion magazines showing borderline anorexic models in highly fashionable attire and surrounded by expensive things. After a while some people subconsciously start expecting those things of women when they may not be like that. Then women start feeling like they can't get ahead without sexualizing themselves.

A majority of the thumbnails of the girls in question don't contain ANY video game footage. They are full-size thumbnails of GIRLS.

I can't agree that the "Based on your Viewing History" statement is accurate:

Cly5wUdUgAA7df1.jpg

I've never watched a single overwatch, WoW or Division stream in my life, nor have I watched "Q&A streams" (funny, they used to ban people for EITHER not having a game or showing cleavage). 99% of my viewing history is speedrunners and FGC events. There's only one actually related video in there.

I watch a couple women streamers but they play games they don't do...whatever is going on in those thumbnails. Twitch isn't exactly balanced gender-wise and I don't think crap like that is helping
Mine looks almost the same. I don't watch any female players, only DDRJake (which used to occupy every single spot in this list) and tournaments in different games (mostly DotA 2, Melee, Warcraft 3 and Brood War) + speedruns. I suspected my account got hacked before and changed the password but it still got worse afterwards.

Lol I can never find boob Streams!

There are entire websites dedicated to girls that show their boobs on streams. They really aren't so hard to find!

Maybe you said "show ur boobs plz" in chat.

Definitely did not. I have BTTV blacklist word filters set up to get rid of most misogynistic filth from Twitch chat
so all I see are the dankest of memes

I have the same ones on mine. That is really odd because I usually only watch male streamers. Really odd, this needs to get fixed.

Look, I know a lot of people in this thread want to believe that it's someone getting outraged that boob streamers exist, but maybe take a step back and read.

This isn't about whether or not he personally thinks there should be these kind of streamers on there or not. We're not going to argue that, because as long as they are following Twitch's rules, they're allowed on there.

It's about how, despite never watching any of these kinds of streams, somehow Twitch has injected them into his, and many others, "Recommended for you" style pages.

And the running theory is Twitch is trying to capitalize on how these women are streaming themselves, in this specific way (high mounted cam, pointing down, usually making the game window smaller than the actual cam, focusing more attention on the streamer rather than the game itself) in order to get more attention/more money from twitch's rather large teenage and apparently sex starved audience.

Are the women free to stream as they do? Yes, because if it's their choice to do so then that is an empowering decision. They freely choose to go on Twitch and stream as they do.

But if Twitch is actively advertising these women to people because of them being "boob streamers?" You'd think most people would have a problem with that.

I know GAF doesn't like to actively acknowledge that these women are taking advantage of the Twitch audience (or will just argue they're justified in doing so/it's the viewers fault for being so easily persuaded by something as mundane as cleavage, which I don't particularly disagree with), but Twitch potentially stepping in and pushing these women on people in the hopes of passively encouraging it further is one step too far.

I watch (and follow) plenty of female streamers on Twitch (Sheever, Bububu, Mizzteq, etc) but none of them full screen their top-down web cam pointed at low cut shirts. That's not the kind of stream I engage in on Twitch and I don't want it to be advertised to me.

You can't "switch the channel" the promoted streamers show up smack dab in the middle of your "following" page, which is a list of all channels you follow, hosted channels and games that you follow. It's a big fat pandering promotion right in the middle of a list of things that are otherwise wholly curated by you.

Let's get to the root of the problem. Who are you afraid is going to see this on your screen.

Maybe it isn't a problem because most people aren't following games so they won't actually see this problem.

That's not the root of the problem. The root of the problem is that it is annoying that I have to see that. There are plenty of other sites which can be used for boob streaming. Lets keep it out of twitch.

I think they should not promote the boobs on Twitch. Twitch should make an 18plus site for those that want topless game streams.
