Twitch going out of its way to promote "boob streamers" ??

Yeah, there's obviously some algorithm shenanigans going on here.

Agreed about the age restriction if things like this are going to appear on twitch.

Read the thread.

That's a lost hope. People are going to see 3 things.

1. You complaining about something.
2. Involving Twitch
3. And women streamers

And connect the dots on their own and just autopilot "Don't shame women streamers" post and move on. Context be damned.

I think they should not promote the boobs on Twitch. Twitch should make an 18plus site for those that want topless game streams.

Exactly, it ruins the image. I have no problem if people want to boob stream. But why does it have to be in my "recommended to watch"?

I watch (and follow) plenty of female streamers on Twitch (Sheever, Bububu, Mizzteq, etc) but none of them full screen their top-down web cam pointed at low cut shirts. That's not the kind of stream I engage in on Twitch and I don't want it to be advertised to me.

You must be the life of the party.

Would you also get physically ill if you were a vehement Hyundai driver and saw an advertisement for a new Chevrolet Truck?

It's summer out, I go to a park. Some people have shirts, some people have tank tops, some people may even be sunning themselves in a bathing suit. I don't go flipping out because my puritan eyes can't handle it. There are worse things in the world that require the rage you're putting forth. Find that instead.

Edit: That said my viewing history is Overwatch, Destiny and Jackbox. None of the items being raged at in this thread.

Only Twitch streams I've watched in the past few months are Floe and Giantbomb. Recommendations are someone called LIRIK, super best friends and giantbomb, no boobs in sight.

Missed opportunity that some porn company hasn't done this already IMO

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
"Sex sells if it is real women

If they are video game chararacters
we got issues mofo" the thread

You know why that is? Because a real live woman is free to do with her body as she pleases. She has agency. She is the one in control of herself. No matter what she does, she is the subject of her own choice, not an object. However if a third party uses a woman's body (even a fake woman's body) as an object of sex for another person, it's objectification.

You are equating what a woman does with her own body with what a third party does with a woman's body.

Keyword: Agency.

lmao

People see nothing wrong when people stream violent games with misogynic/racist chat on the side, but when you see a low cut shirt on a girl it's fucking banhammer time.

Grow up.

Please don't objectify streamers. I thought GAF was better than shaming female gamers for being female.

No one is shaming them that I've seen. The ones in question know exactly what they're doing though, let's not act like they're not looking for views.

On subject, does twitch use other viewing histories to push channels? What have you been googling OP? Haha

Everyone is looking for views. It's twitch.

I don't think I have this whole "based on your viewing history" field anywhere. What's the URL for it for you?

Same here. I don't have it. Last time a thread was made to point out these low cut streamers it was locked by a mod so thread carefully, the actual focus being Twitch sponsoring these streams is a little different, but... mind it.

That's not the same and you know it. Boob steamers cater to the exact same thing porn sites do. Is that what Twitch has become? A softcore porn site?

It shows up smack dab in the middle of your following page:

https://www.twitch.tv/directory/following

Right under "live channels" pushing "live games" all the way down to the 2nd page.
Nope, nothing. https://abload.de/img/unbenanntn7lw8.png

Slow rollout, I guess.

The complaint is basically "an algorithm designed to show me content similar to the content I enjoy failed to show me content similar to the content I enjoy". What that content is is pretty irrelevant, yes? Because there is a fair bit of moralizing going on in this thread (not only or primarily from you, OP).

Maybe especially the notion that boobs are unsuitable to be seen, even clothed, by children. That might be the silliest thing I have ever heard, and symptomatic of a society both obsessed with and terrified by sex and sexuality, not to mention bodies and self-expression.

As someone suggested, the answer is probably that their channel and channels you enjoy shares a significant audience, and the recommendation algorithm takes little to to notice of the actual content. That's just speculation on my part, though.

Yes, and they realized they have a specific trait that they can use in order to do so.

I'm not personally blaming them for doing so, because I don't necessary disagree with trying to get an audience any way you can. Boobs are boobs. Whatever.

But if I personally did not enjoy watching those kind of streams, avoided watching those kinds of streams, and all of a sudden Twitch starts injecting recommendations to those kind of streams to me despite me never watching anything to prompt such a recommendation, you have to sit there and wonder why.

And a pretty simple answer is Twitch knows these kind of streamers grab attention/money, and are trying to push it on their predominately male teenage audience.

In short:

Those girls are choosing of their own free will to stream while bringing attention to their cleavage. This is OK.

Twitch might be trying to profit off them further by injecting them into people's recommendations despite there being no connectable reason for this. This is not OK.

Is this why it's happening? Who knows. But given a few people in thread already pointed out how the same few streamers seem to be popping up for everyone (IM LIT FAM), it seems intentional.

That's not the root of the problem. The root of the problem is that it is annoying that I have to see that. There are plenty of other sites which can be used for boob streaming. Lets keep it out of twitch.

Do you wear a blindfold when you go to the beach? Because the women there are a lot less dressed than theses streamers. In fact, in summer this is the way most women dress for the most part. Do you stay in the house all summer? We're talking about some low cut shirts. Not porn.

Yeah, this.

It's seriously embarrassing.

"boob streamers" SMFH. Lamergate is that way.

Also that one guy on the first page with a JAV avatar saying that he has never watched any woman streamer and complaining about tits. LMAO.

Huh that's really weird. My recommended list is literally only one video, and it's Maxamillion. I watch a lot of fighting game streams.

ugh those women should wear thick sweaters. How dare they corrupt my eyesight.
</sarcasm>. Seriously, as long as they're not naked it's ok. Some people just have bodies with boobs, nothing you can do about it.

Does the beach profit from them wearing less clothes? Do the women? It's a different concept we are talking about here. I'll say this again, I do not have a problem with boob streamers. If that's what they want to do that is there decision. However, I do have a problem with twitch forcing these streams on me.

These videos are based off of "viewing history" yet I've never watched these streamers. People are missing there real issue here.

It's a crime for women to wear tank tops? Especially in their own home?

All I'm seeing is females playing video games, why are you upset ?

You guys are going out of your way to defend boob streamers. Clearly these aren't just your average girl gamers streaming their games on twitch(who are awesome and honestly probably pissed off at this boob streamers). Half of the time they are just letting games run in the background while they talk to and tease the audience, or in some cases get bullied by twitch, be over dramatic, and watch the donations pour in.

It's on all accounts manipulative and I don't think that's what the site should be about. Also I'm sure I'll get the "it's just boobs! In America it's a stigma blah blah" but there are a lot of little kids watching Twitch and I dont think I want this getting recommended to them.

Your guys' pages are both what mine used to look like before the addition of the "based on your viewing history" section. Now, for me, the "most recent videos" section is gone completely, replaced by what is being shown in this thread. The old most recent videos section used to show me VODs from channels that I follow. It used to actually be useful. I got to watch videos that streamers I follow highlighted, like funny things that happens that they cut into few-minutes long chunks and saved to Twitch. Now those are gone and I get recommendations for VODs from streams that I don't follow, as mentioned in the thread.

Not sure what is causing both of you to not get the new recommendation section, but I wish I could go back to that.

Oh no, let's not ruin the sanctity of twitch!

Twitch was NEVER a safe space for kids. And boobs are the least of the problems

Phrasing this as "but what about the children" is the most disingenuous argument i've ever heard.

Twitch isn't forcing anything on you except some thumbnails that you can ignore when you go into your following list

That's people choice on whether they want to bully someone, donate to someone, or watch someone being dramatic. And guess what, people being bullied, people being donated to, and people being dramatic isn't exclusive to women.

Thats a bigger problem but not the one in this thread. I honestly detest Twitch but it's popular and I think these boob streamers are doing more harm than good to the image of girl gamers than some of you guys think.

Looking at Twitch comments is way more harmful for kids than seeing some women in a low-cut shirt.

EDIT: Also, calling someone a "boob streamer" just because they were a low-cut shirt while streaming is a little dehumanising,

Well thank god the girl gamers have you fighting against the scourge of comfortable clothing

The ones who are doing it on purpose (and I mean...come on, the very low cut shirts) arent doing anything wrong. They are literally just making money in a market where there is money to be made. i.e nice chested women playing videogames. Guess what? There is a market for that and apparently people are willing to donate good money to see it otherwise they probably wouldnt be doing it. Good for them i say!

Do you happen to be a "girl gamer" by any chance?

I won't speak for a group of people that have a voice already: young women have been vocal within the gaming community already. If this is not an issue that is being targeted at the moment by women within the industry do not try to make it a focus point.

It's like a bunch of guys, mostly white, holding those pitchforks up high to defend the idea of "girl gamers."

El oh el.

Bruh. There's all kinds of girl gamers. Just like there's all kinds of guy gamers. Don't worry though, I'm sure girl gamers will make it through without having you to protect their sanctity by protesting against the detested boob streamers~

How else are you going to rant against someone. It's sad that women get degraded to just being 'boob streamers'.

I agree with all of this. Twitch has become kind of a haven for immature teens to sit around being racist, misogynistic, hateful little shits and its chat is a reflection of that. The problem is, if all of that garbage and static were cleaned up, the popularity of Twitch would fall drastically because those same idiots are its primary audience and source of revenue, so Twitch has no reason to even attempt it.

It's a vicious cycle that exists on what should be an awesome, entertaining website, and it's a much, much larger issue than the one brought up in this thread.

My "based on history" page is also lit, fam, and I'm from Germany and barely used this account (almost exclusively for EZA/Giantbomb stuff) lol

There's definitively some weird filtering going on. I'd guess twitch scans for "what's giving us the most bucks in the "gaming" category" and just puts that in the list.

that said, clicking the cog and "remove recommendation" seems to easily take care of this issue.
