'What is a proxy?'

Stupid idiots wasting time and money on this, Kids wanting to see porn will see it.

I think what is more important is that teenagers need to be taught in school the dangers of porn, including addiction and porn induced sexual dysfunction. Also how porn is inherently a male power fantasy and not reality. Women and girls should never be treated as they are depicted in porn unless consenting to do so.

so this basically requires every single website that's marked as "adult" to willingly opt in to some sort of non-existent internet age verification system? It's impossible to implement.

Honestly, they'd be better off introducing a smartphone/tablet ban for under 18s if they are really thinking of the children.
A 10 year-old does not need an iPhone.

And just as much, parents should be educated in how to control (as much as is possible) internet content within their homes. There are solutions that are very good at this (such as Bluecoat's K9).

As you said, if they want to see it, they will - but state-wide nannying is not the solution.

You try taking iPads off kids these days.

As an outside observer who hasn't been following this thing closely, why is porn suddenly such a big deal in the UK? You guys show pretty much everything on TV already as far as I can tell (I mean I recall seeing Nathalie Emmanuel's naked butt and vagina on Misfits years and years ago). Rightwing legislators take a majority or something?

This is the worst thing to come out of the UK:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...eillance-becomes-uk-law-with-barely-a-whimper
https://www.engadget.com/2016/11/17/uk-ip-bill-surveillance-law/

I'm amazed no one has made a thread on it and has discussed it.

Pretty sure I saw two.

Also this isn't going to stop kids watching porn (back in the day we found the stuff and it was a glorious time); it's going to make it more awkward for all. As stated parents should be the responsible ones and the governments should only advise them on what and how to do this.

I don't think it's impossible. Kids are walking around with portable devices that allow them to shoot their own "porn" in HD. It's not just the web browser that is the enemy these days. Kids exchanging user generated sexual material as a means of "interacting" is fast becoming the norm in the UK these days. Children are literally walking around with a porn production studio in their pockets. The smartphone is the enabler.

i watched my first porn video when i was about 6. found an old VHS tape in my parents bedroom while on the hunt for xmas presents. didn't do any harm to me.

this is shocking. what kind of verification are we talking here? putting in your birthday or requiring us to submit a copy of our driving license/passport? either way it's ridiculous.

Yes, that would be sensible, but a lot of MPs and supposed child safety campaigners seem more interested in preserving their own unrealistic fantasies of childhood innocence rather than actually doing something that could promote healthy sexuality. Better to just hide it away than actually deal with reality.

There should be a much bigger push for more and better sex education, as knowledge is key in protecting from abuse as well as promoting a health sex life in the future, but isn't it just more important that adults can think of children as pure and innocent?

Unfortunately, this is an area where it's very hard to make any progress, as "moral" campaigners and certain elements of the press - cough, Daily Mail, cough - will attack anyone who doesn't think their way. As such, more sensible MPs tend to be rather gun shy when it comes to promoting better education or opposing "think of the children" legislation.

Do they really give a fuck about kids watching porn or is there a bigger motive here? My brain can't even really make sense of it unless it has to do with more power and control.

i think that yeah they certainly do care about kids but it is used in their favour to get more power/control. if anyone opposes them they can just say "don't you care about the children?" or "do you sympathise with terrorists?" nobody is gonna say yes and they will be forced to agree with them.

this is the start of a very fucking steep slope. first they try block piracy sites, now porn, what's next? the internet will look very different in the future and it will allow control over everyone.

Well personally I think they don't give a shit about the kids, it's despicable to use them in that manner, and they're using boogeyman terrorists and now children as an excuse. May they all rot in hell.

Isnt porn in Britain already edited, just like in Japan? They hide 1/3 of the image and require that you even pay for it

On TV, yes, but not so much on DVD, and online isn't affected.

EDIT: It's not obscured like in Japan, they're just not allowed to show certain things on TV, even on pay channels. It's farcical.

Was considering voting Tory because I actually think May, for her myriad failings, is probably the best person available to be leading the Brexit negotiations. With this and the surveillance bill legalising all GCHQ's illegal behaviour, looks like I'll be spoiling my ballot again next election.

The UK government have really become a laughing stock in this world. Well they can not criticise China or North Korea about controlling information on the internet.

If a kid wants pornographic material they could get it on Tumblr.com or use a proxy.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
This is bizarre because for a while now, when subscribing to a new ISP, you had the choice of unfiltered internet or filtered. Most people went with unfiltered, so then it became "opt out if you want unfiltered". The fact they have to do this indicates that didn't work out either. Meanwhile, Fifty Shades Of Grey the book is still on sale at the checkout in Morrissons.

This and the Investigatory Powers Bill pretty much suggests the internet should be under Government control. That's where it's heading. I means they're going to have a list of all the sites you've been on anyway, this is just a little bonus for them.
Before people lose their freedom you need the machinery to do so to be put in place. You can't imprison people until you've built the prisons. Once the machinery is there it's just a question of when.

Is this some kind of reverse psychological trick to reduce immigration? "Let's make all the things so shitty, that nobody wants to come here"

We will build a firewall for our porn sites

I'm bigly than any male porn star out there

Just look at my big hands

Believe me

I wouldn't go that far lol

None of this has ever been about actual pornography. That it would appeal to conservative types for votes was just a pleasant side effect — but Its true objective has always been to compel ISP to implement realtime identification and filtering mechanisms for abuse by GCHQ and other similar groups for purposes like the Investigatory Powers Bill (Snooper's Charter).

Edit: think of it in the context of Apple and the SanBernadino case where they argued that they were being legally compelled to go out of their way to make a means to undermine the security of their own devices. Its easier for the government to legally compel ISPs to comply with their surveillance agenda when the tools for it already exist and would only need to be modified slightly

I wish I could see exactly what responses in the thread are from people with children

Without children, I imagine you laugh at the face of all this stuff.

With children, you gain perspective on why this topic always comes back up. They copy and mimic everything they see at early ages. They are too small to understand anything yet. Note: I'm not talking about 15 year olds watching porn. 8 year olds watching gag factor clips on porn hub is pretty crazy to me though

Not that I agree with the methods in the OP. But I always find it amusing how many people jump to: "fuck it, kids will find porn so just let em". I probably was like that too before I had kids and see just how much of a blank slate copy machine they actually are

Every time there's a new nanny state regulation, I imagine all the morons who support it gathering in a circle, bowing towards Buckingham Palace, and singing their national anthem: Ding dong, ding dong, we are Britbongs!

#NotAllBrits but the ones who are in favour of this are freedom hating psychos.

I have 4 kids and I'm not even going to argue about why I don't think this has anything to do with protecting our children because it sounds fantastically stupid to me. Put yourself in their position. Do you really give a shit that someone elses random kids may be looking for porn on the internet? Is there some epidemic or a disease I haven't heard of spreading due to these poor children viewing porn that we must protect them from?

Like I said I have 4 kids and if I dont want them to see porn whos responsibility is that? It's mine. The end.

Ugh I don't even have anything else to bother saying about this. It's just insane that some/many/god forbid most? people buy this garbage.

Luckily there are a myriad of filters available for the internet and in this country you still have to specifically opt-out when you sign up for Broadband these days, so ignorance of their existence is no longer an excuse. This legislation is needlessly excessive and won't make any actual difference to the problem

Build more houses

oo, err, well, we'd love to but we don't really have any money. We'll rely on private companies to do it, when have they ever failed us?

Well in that case, could you maybe try to make rent affordable and stop Buy-To-Let ravaging the poor?

But how will the wealthy make their second income?

Pay junior doctors what they deserve

Did you just hear that we have no money?

Hire more teachers

I mean again it's a lovely idea but, where's the money for all this?

Reject the self-harming stupidity of Brexit

Ahem, respect, unity, will of the people. SEVENTEEN POINT FOUR MILLION.

Stop asking young people to pay the 'youth tax' that is the student loan

Don't be stupid, how would we pay off the deficit (whatever that means) if the young weren't having to pay more tax than the old? How would we pay for the triple lock?

Make a real investment towards green energy and this planet's future

The quote is "It's The Economy Stupid", not "It's The Environment Stupid". Stupid.

Make it harder for welfare cheats (also known as the disabled) from getting the benefits they need to survive, continue to fund Trident, block people from watching pornography, record everyone's internet history

We'll get on that right away.

How?

A long legal document that you have to tick to say you've read?

Don't see any way they can truly verify your age other than linking to official ID.

Use credit card verification, that's how cigarette/e-cig companies use to verify age.

The Conservatives have such a negative relationship with hardcore porn for a government that is constantly fucking people whilst licking the arses of their corporate best mates.
