WikiLeaks starting to show its true colors as it attacks former Allies The Guardian and Luke Harding for Restricting the pro-Russian carpet bombing of news sites comment sections with Russian propaganda.

@wikileaks · 5h
Guardian mass censoring pro-Russian comments in #Ukraine conflict http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/may/04/pro-russia-trolls-ukraine-guardian-online … Who is Luke Harding? https://encrypted.google.com/#q="luke+harding"+plagiarist …

They never did release any of the Russian or Putin documents they claimed to have and now voicing public support for Russia regarding Ukraine. Have to wonder who their overseer is

Haha are we seriously calling wikileaks à the guardian former "allies" now. No wonder why the media are one sided, would they be traitors otherwise?

Fresh fighting in Slavyansk has begun. Reports of casualties but no numbers. Gas station has exploded.

Presidential Council of the Russian Federation for Civil Society and Human Rights finds Crimean referendum numbers do not add up to what was claimed with only 30-50% of the population of Crimea actually participating.

Crimean Tartar plan a large demonstration on May 18th the 70th anniversary of the mass deportation of the Tartar people by the Soviet Union.
@EuromaidanPR 31m
18May is70th anniversary of #Crimean Tatars deportation. Rally is planned in #Crimea w/ slogans on human rights protection, #Jemilev presser

That's just kicking them while they're down. Seems to me the sanctions have mostly done their job, the russians are not threatening to invade every five minutes any more. If their economy really goes down the shitter they might decide they just don't care anymore.

I'd imagine the occupation of Crimea is part of why the sanctions keep coming. I also don't think Russia is willing to back down on that no matter the sanctions. It would be too much of a loss of face.

Slavyansk battle continues to rage as army is doing its best to avoid civilian areas.

30 Soldiers Injured and 4 soldiers dead so far today. Unknown injured and fatalities on Russian side of things. Shot down Helicopter pilot from other day was rescued.

@pravolivo 1h
#Ukraine MIA: 4 ofcrs killed,30 injured during fights at #Sloviansk agnst 800 insurgents w/machine guns, RPGs, mortars, covered by civilians

Kidnappings continue with 3 more politicians and several miners kidnapped by russian separatists in Novohrodivka.

Firefighters being kidnapped and taken prisoner in Donetsk region as well with reported giving an interesting view on it.

@pete_leonard 1h
So while rage boils over about the fire in Odessa, here is a little and now everyday story about what the Donetsk Republic is up to.

‏@pete_leonard 1h
Some Donetsk People marched a couple of detained blindfolded firemen into the seized administration building. Unclear why.

‏@pete_leonard 59m
Earlier, I heard Donetsk Republic officials arguing furiously about this (didn't understand at the time). One said: What if there is a fire?

@pete_leonard 59m
If there is a fire at the Donetsk Regional Administration and no rescuers come, there will be a reason. Sad and stupid story.

@pete_leonard 55m
With Molotov Cocktails the order of the day, the Donetsk People's Republic is kidnapping firemen. Utterly astounding.

Firemen bound and blindfolded being led to SBU building as prisoners

I think the info below the video says it's in Lugansk (Луганск).

I am pretty sure that is a dead body they are laughing and joking around

Source: #Russia has launched an invasion of #Ukraine which it may still deny it even though Russian military trucks have entered Ukraine

I believe it. No reason to doubt it.

At this point Ukraine has to stop pussy footing around with the Separatists like it has been. If you are armed and in the streets your dead. All that has been happening is Army comes in kills a bunch the rest run to another town. Army leaves then they run back in.

30 dead on pro Russian side.

lol no they aren't, let's be serious here.

Oh I agree, most of them are unarmed.

The thousands of Russian instigators and heavily armed troops however are not.

They have few PT-76 and Iglas, but beside that, they are pretty much the same. Right sector and Maidan fought with fire arms in Kiev, as did pro-Russians on the East, when Kiev gave BTRs to Right Sector and sent them to East, pro-Russians took PT-76s. It's 1:1.

Any confirmation of the reports of Russian trucks and armour crossing the border in Luhansk Oblast? Or of the reports of Russian state media saying there is going to be a separation referendum this weekend in Donetsk and Luhansk?

I've seen a bunch of tweets and YouTube videos regarding the border crossing, nothing from an official source yet.

Although here is something ominous...

Agence France-Presse (@AFP) tweeted at 4:39pm - 6 May 14:

#BREAKING All flights in and out of the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk have been suspended, airport authorities say (https://twitter.com/AFP/status/463568633911083009)

Tweets now are indicating its not a full invasion but instead breaking a hole in the border where Russian "volunteers" and arms can enter uninterrupted by Ukraine Military.

(Asking because I honestly don't know) What did they use to shoot down those helicopters? Intuitively it seems like they would need some military equipment to down them.

Ukrainian Army knows exactly where those trucks are and where they are going. They should have jets or helicopters in the sky and send everyone of those Cossacks to a fiery death.

That's what cause Slavyansk to heat up so much yesterday. The Cossack brigade from Crimea arrived and tried to hit the army from behind. Cossacks announced days before they were coming. Should be bombing them the moment the cross the borders

Have to take the risks. Ukraine playing it safe is why Thousands of Russians are pouring over the border and reinforcing these separatists. They close the airport and make a big deal out of while Russian trucks drive right into cities loaded with troops

Fuck it, it's now or never for Ukraine. Mark my words, if they don't grow a pair and show Russia they are not going down quietly, they will loose al that they have and Putin will try it's "politics" on other neighbours.

I've been looking for that information myself, couldn't find anything more specific than this:
Although little information is available on the MANPADS used, they are likely to have been an Igla, either the earlier 9K310 Igla-1 (SA-16 'Gimlet'), or the later 9K38 Igla (SA-18 'Grouse'), which are in service with both the Ukrainian and Russian armed forces.

http://www.janes.com/article/37330/two-ukrainian-mi-24s-shot-down-by-manpads

From the Wikipedia page for MANPADS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-portable_air-defense_systems):

- Unrelated:
The website of the “President of Russia’s Council on Civil Society and Human Rights” posted a blog that was quickly taken down as if it were toxic radioactive waste. According to the Council’s report about the March referendum to annex Crimea, the turnout was a maximum 30%. And of these, only half voted for annexation – meaning only 15 percent of Crimean citizens voted for annexation.

The fate of Crimea, therefore, was decided by the 15 percent of Crimeans, who voted in favor of unification with Russia (under the watchful eye of Kalashnikov-toting soldiers).

http://www.forbes.com/sites/paulrod...lection-results-only-15-voted-for-annexation/

Should probably mention - that's listed as an OP/ED, so take that as you will.

At this point I'd be done with the east and let them join Russia if they want to. Then the west can join the eu if they so wish. And to think if they hadn't stirred up trouble in the east things would have settled down. They would have had a referendum on greater autonomy. Then presidential elections would be able to take place (which are severely in doubt now) and this entire sorry affair would be closer to resolution. Putin gonna putin though.

You don't abandon your territories. And seriously, how much of those people really (REALLY) want to join Russia? Check tachiSama's link about Crimea. Doesn't look like 97% to me.

If Ukraine allows these rebels to take Eastern ukraine what's stopping them from doing the same thing in Western Ukraine? You can't just continue to acquiesce territory because you are afraid of a larger conflict.

This is why Russia wants the East so bad. Not only is the East the Military production side of the country it is also sitting on a huge gas deposit.
screen%20shot%202011-12-16%20at%205_11_05%20pm.png

Would be a huge boost to Putins Soviet Empire dream. Expanded Military production including plants that Russia relies on right now for certain parts they cannot get elsewhere and steal Ukraine's own gas trapping Ukraine even more. Crimea was a massive grab for the same reason. Ukraine via Crimea made all of Russia's larger warships including Carriers. Russia itself had no expertise or facilities for this. Taking Crimea gave them the manpower and facilities to expand Navy

Ukraine with investment could be totally independent of Russian gas and could even begin exporting and experts say they could make a fortune even while selling cheaper than Russia to Europe

I suspect this is exactly the same reason why "the west" wants Ukraine on their side and wants Russia not to have it.

Putin Awards Journalists for 'Objective' Crimea Coverage
Citing an official familiar with the decree, Vedemosti reported Monday that Putin bestowed the honor on about 100 journalists from the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, more than 60 from state-run Channel One television and dozens from Gazprom-owned NTV television, state-funded RT television and tabloid Life News.

Among the reported recipients of the "For Service to the Fatherland" award were talk show host Arkady Mamontov and RT's chief editor Margarita Simonyan.

The list of recipients included Federal Mass Media Inspection Service head Alexander Zharov, whose organization was recently criticized for blocking access to prominent opposition blogs and websites.

JMO, but particularly deserving of a journalism objectivity award called "For Service To The Fatherland" is Federal Mass Media Inspection Service head Alexander Zharov and the channel owned by Gazprom. Congrats to all the winners!

Catching 10 guys trying to cross from Transnistria to the Odessa region with Uranium 235 has certainly upped the ante significantly. Transnistria already has a track record of being a supplier of weapon grade uranium on the black market.

Updates:

Kerch bridge to #Crimea fr #Russia budget rose 4-fold. $1.3 billion in March, $5.5 billion now, in talks with China.

lol China was only going to charge Ukraine and Russia a total of 1.3 billion to build connection bridge. Now that its only Russia they want 5.5 billion. Gets more and more expensive taking Crimea.

There are some reports that Russia has forgiven 90% of the debt that North Korea owed. This comes after a month after they signed a billion dollar development agreement with them. Since this crisis began, they've been making more moves like this.

It has to do with them wanting to build a gas pipeline through North Korea to South Korea. The write-off is basically a free appeasement anyway (because let's face it, Russia was never getting that money back either way) and the development deal is to help oil the gears. This has been in the works for some time, the debt write-off proposal stems from an agreement made in 2012 and Gazprom has been dreaming of that pipeline for God knows how long.

None of this means that the events of the last two months hasn't sped things along though. If Europe starts to turn away from Russian gas and oil Russia will need to diversify. Quickly.

South Korea is cool with this?
