Ukrainian Conflict - Donetsk Boogaloo

No country has more equipment than the US. As matter of the fact the EU has much less than Russia. I was talking active military personnel so available immediatly but sure combining active and reserve units the US has the biggest army.

Back on topic. Why not give all the states or provinces within the Ukraine the right to pick if they want to be Pro-Western or Pro-Russian and devide the country accordingly? Iknow the Crimea gets a referendum but how about the whole country?

That is ridiculous.

It's sort of surreal hearing these kind of words coming from the Polish Prime Minister in 2014.

This quote also caught my eye:

"History shows - although I don't want to use too many historical comparisons - that those who appease all the time in order to preserve peace usually only buy a little bit of time."

While the chances of World War III breaking out are slim to none, I cannot help but think the situation is pretty damn eerie, especially regarding the arguable parallels between Crimea and the Sudentland/the Polish corridor.

Is that true facts from Mr. Tusk or is Poland just especially afraid of Russia reforming the Warsaw Pact?
Also ot question in regards to Russia-east Asia. What exactly would china from Russia territorially? And Japan only wants that narrow island that's part of the archipelago?

A threat to a sovereign Ukraine is a threat to a secure Poland, the fact that they would have to react could be seen a mile off.

Oh boy that might not be the brightest of ideas given that the poles are actually members of NATO

How is moving troops on your own border not a bright idea? They aren't invading Ukraine.

And what if 5 years later some pro-Russian provinces suddenly feel more pro-Western (or vice versa) Will they just jump around between both countries?

How can you expect Poland to not move to secure it's border while its neighbor is being invaded by the country that partitioned Poland?

I expect some common sense to not escalate the situation, imagine if France was to make a move on Spain I would expect the Portuguese government to be smart enough not to put our troops on the border and escalate the situation.

They can move their troops to the border but that could send the wrong message and increase hostilities, don't forget that the relations between Russian and Poland are not the best

What scares me is the type of war this would be ( IF it goes that far)

Will it just mainly be long range artillery with a lot of air combat ( to ground and air to air)

I feel more rockets and explosives will be used than actual bullets, which is scary because of there destruction.

Russia has a lot of tanks. I dont know how Europe could hold them back.

Well, they have the view that this is 1938 all over again. And they don't want to have a neo-Russian empire right next to their borders doing whatever they want while Nato stands still (however i don't think those are putin intentions). And i agree, escalating the situation doesn't help right now.

How is defending your own border escalating hostilities? Do you know how many times Poland has been invaded? You can't possibility understand the mindset that many have there. There are still people alive there from the last time that Russia came through.

Steinmeier (Germany) said on german television, Russia must remain a member of the G8

Please give it some context. If I understood the Frankfurter article correctly the Minister of Foreign Affairs says it is pretty much the only occasion to have a direct discussion with Russia, and he is questioning if that opportunity should really be discarded just like that.

Poland has a very vivid memory of the kind of douchebags Russia can be to its occupied territories. They have no intention of letting Russia get on their border. If anything Poland and a few others might be the countries with a backbone to reinforce Western Ukraine because they wont be letting Russia expand its border.

What's the point of discussion with russia if they don't listen?

I still can't get my head around the fact that it's barely been a week since the revolution ended in the first place. It's all gone so fast. First everyone was concerned about the violence against Maidan, then we were scared about the possibility of a civil war in Ukraine, then we were happy that Yanukovich was gone and things were quieting down, then we were concerned about what Russia were up to in Crimea and now we're all scared again, this time for the possibility of a major war between Russia and Ukraine.

It's crazy. And I'm not even Ukrainian!

Why is it reasonable? Does Russia really think the US and Europe will invade it or attack it? All of this is done because they know very well what Russia is planning and has been doing. Just look at who is in power.

Excellent point. Can anyone blame the Baltics and Poland for begging to get into NATO based on their awful histories? Tons of exiles and their descendants live here and vote too. I guess "Democracy Now" would rather the US government tell them to go fuck themselves.

yeah but we are not only speaking of them alone, NATO means that if Poland escalate the situation and imagine get in a fight with Russia that would rally all NATO to defend Poland WW3 begins.

I expect them to be more smart than their fears and stay calm and avoid escalate the situation.

That`s the reason why he is against Kerry`s sweet dreams. It was just an example that the NATO and EU have different interests and opinions.

Ukraine will never start a war, Jazenjuk is no suicide.

they are all using pages from cold war.. which means a lot of threat and little action... all out war in ukraine would not be suitable for anyone and russia would have long lasting repercussions.

This is eerie. If the national community accepts that Russia takes Crimea. It's similar to that Germany pre-WW2 were able to annex Chechoslovakian provinces that spoke German. Wich country is next?

I blame this kind of ignorance on the dumbing down of video games. Do yourself a favor and download Steel Panthers: MBT (or whatever the current version is).

What are you saying? That tanks can't be repaired by a blow torch? Tanks don't auto-regenerate unless disabled?

Actually this is something that had happened in the history of the world over and over and over again. Major changes most of the times happen in a relative short period of times.

T90's aren't really the best of tanks so doesn't matter their number, if the enemy has better tanks and anti-tanks weapons...

First I wouldn't underestimate the T90s, second quantity can beat quality.

What's the point of discussion with russia if they don't listen?

How do you how would a discussion between the leading nations turn out? Would you just simply throw that option out of the window?

I imagine they have foul memories of the Anglo-Polish alliance that was supposed to protect Polish territorial integrity the last time around. When France and England were supposed to protect them from Germany and did not.

NATO vs Russia. Who exactly would be on Russia's side? Belarus Abkhazia and South Ossetia?

Especially since Putin speaks perfect German. Would be such a waste.

They declared war on Germany eventhough their military was barely ready. What more could they have done?

but they did, WW2 began with them

but they did, WW2 began with them

Did they? Poland was quickly overrun and its people were tortured and executed. The treaty did nothing to spare them.

They declared war on Germany eventhough their military was barely ready. What more could they have done?

Sure but that didn't really help much. If they can count on that kind of help again then I can't blame them for fortifying.

What if 6 months from now we get a similar situation from the other end of the spectrum?

Like I said it wouldn't be my choice either but with a country this devided with two conflicting ideologies I think desperate times require desperate measures.
