Ukrainian Conflict - Donetsk Boogaloo

Well it's probably for the better. I mean in the past there was quite some fighting spirit in many European countries, but in every case the one country that can make a difference; the one European country that is richer than Russia, is Germany. And Germany is a gigantic pussy in the military world stage.

But if Germany weren't pussy, it's achtung pantzer and before you know it the rest of us would be rehearsing our Deutschland ueber alles again, so there's that. Better to be a bunch of squibbling pussies.

There are multiple European nations wealthier than Russia; not just Germany but also France and Great Britain. Italy is also effectively the same size economically. Also, the notion a remilitarized Germany would be aggressive towards its neighbours is frankly bizarre given Franco-German relations. It smacks of borderline offensive stereotyping.

Brave very brave,
She won't be with them much longer :(

Where are the English RT studios located? She seems incredibly fluent in English. I honestly forgot that RT had an English branch. This seems like a production that would be somewhere in Europe or North America, not in Russia proper or whatever.

Where does RT air, and more importantly why? I mean who is it for?

Yes it was a joke. Though the uneasiness with a remilitarized Germany is still quite prevalent among many countries.

Abby is safe since she is in the RT USA studio which is in Washington DC.

RT airs globally. It was setup as a Non Western Viewpoint news organization. Which is why most guests end up being 9/11 truthers etc.

Good article on why RT exists and examples of just how out there they are.

Im not quite sure what point you are trying to make, but this sentence is LOL worthy.

If Germany gets attacked, you bet your azz the West is loading a magazine.

And the reason why they would? Because if you look at the past of Europe no other country gives a dam about another country. Don't think that this superficial European union is actually worth a dam towards the individual country's.

I know it's on 102 here on Comcast in Chicago

It's a TV chanel aimed at international viewers. It broadcasts to hundreds of millions of people worldwide and is in general an extremely successful project. They are the 2nd most watched foreign chanel in the US after BBC and the most watched in some areas IIRC. International TVs aren't a foreign concept in Europe. Germany and France have their own chanels (DW and FRA24). Qatar also has their own (Al Jazeera).

The world is different from the past. The economies of each country are deeply connected to each other and that's why an attack to Germany would have severe consequences to all of Europe.

EU was originally formed to ensure that Germany and France would get so economically attached to each other that it wouldn't make sense for them to start fighting again.

Yeah, but things have changed since. Even without the European Union there is a strong link between France and Germany and UK/Italy/Spain won't sit by idly while the heart of Europe is being attacked.

But even talking about this is ridiculous, it's so far out there.

This. As ever, it's very very easy for people to overestimate Russia or Russian power.

Putin's statement is pretty incoherent. He seems rattled.

Aha didn't know this, that explains it.

It's a live translation, you can't really expect too much I suppose. The translator sounds a lot more nervous than Putin does speaking in Russian.

I'm listening directly to Putin in the Russian.
... and relying on my Russian-speaking friend to tell me what is going on.

Yes, those poor Germans, how dare people offend them by thinking if they again became a military power, they would be aggressive towards their neighbors. I mean it's not like they were probably one of the most devastating belligerents during both World Wars no? Please. It's offensive to Germans to think others might not be wary of them given their Nazi history? It's the same for why South Korea or China get tense whenever Japan talks about large military endeavors etc. Germans will have to grin and bear it, I guess.

If you can't see differences between a Japanese and German rearmament, I'm not sure what you're doing in this conversation. Also, both of you have yet to name a neighbour of Germany that would actually care if they remilitarized. Denmark? France? Austria?

Hey thanks. It's so weird to me that they exist in America (I mean having an english show, ok I guess, but produced in America on top of that?), since they are demonstrably more biased and unprofessional than even Fox New (whom they make look respectable by comparison) and basically a Kremlin mouthpiece.

I have no idea, they must have an English language studio, maybe it is in Russia or could be uk, who knows.

If you can't see similarities etc.

There's a lot of resentment both in the Netherlands and Poland towards Germany still that I know of, though with the last of the survivors of WW2 dying out, it's becoming milder.

This is bizarre.

'We don't have any troops in Crimea, but if we did, they'd be humanitarian. '

"Russia is ready to host the G8 meeting in Sochi. However if the western leaders don't want to attend they don't have to."

lol how kind of him.

"Our forces are there for humanitarian reasons but no we don't have any troops there."

This stuff is amazing. Now accusing the Ukraine of shooting at women and children and crimea being attacked and area is so unsafe police cant leave house etc.

I don't even know what you mean rearmament. Germany has been remilitarized. During the Cold War it became one of the most devastating armies in the world. The only difference now is, that it's cut defense spending.

What real difference is there between Japan and Germany? There is one key though, Japan has forever renounced the right to war in its constitution. Obviously they can change it. And yes, I am almost certain that a mass German arms buildup and shoring of national pride in the military would be met by questions from its neighbors. That's just a byproduct of its Nazi, and war history in the past century.

Anyways, let's not derail the thread.

"My god, did you see how organized they were? They seized key areas of Crimea... how they behaved like trained special forces? very organized"

Amateur hour for a once superpower. What is the benefit of making assertions that everyone but the most crazed apologists know are BS?
