As far as I know, Mega CD doesn't have copy protection so homebrew apps like the 240p test suite should work fine off CD-R. Mega CD is region locked though, so I would think you would need NTSC-Japan header info for it to work on your JP Mega CD.

Homebrew software for Sega consoles should be region-free, because it's really easy and straightforward to add the required information to the game header.

Just try it out.
Thanks guys.
Downloaded the suite following the link in the OP, and I found out there are all the three ISOs - American, European and Japanese - into the zip file, so I'll just burn the JP one and give it a try.

Are JVC monitors and PVMs generally considered good quality? I usually only see people talking about Sony monitors here. I have access to a few and want to jump on it.

I have a JVC 20" and it's a great display. 750 TVL's and my has great geometry. Model No. bm-h2000pn-k

I've posted quite a few pictures in the scanlines thread off it. May give you an indication of picture.

There's no reason to believe that PVMs are better or worse than other broadcast monitors. They are simply the most common. Heck, the only non-PVM broadcast monitor I've ever owned was much nicer than any PVM I've seen in person, but it was too small and geometry was too messed up to make it worthwhile.

And not all PVMs were created equal anyway. I wouldn't get too caught up in whether or not you're gaming on a PVM vs some other type of decent CRT with RGB input.

I was more thinking across the spectrum rather than just high end broadcast monitors.

Trinitrons are pretty widely recommended, where as I've heard mixed reviews of JVC tvs.

This is mine to give you an idea of what JVC's are like. Mine is an older model. Newer ones have more flatter tubes and Interface boards for different inputs. I forget this Monitor cost me £1!

^ Wow, geometry looks amazing on your monitor. The day I'll finally find a CRT capable to display such a straight frame, I'll be SO happy.

I still like your monitor more than anything i've seen other than phonedork's NEC.

So nice.

Thanks man. I haven't seen many people with this monitor which is a shame as its a great set.

I was pretty surprised when I first fired it up an loaded the 240p test suite. The Geo was pretty much perfect from the go.

Is there a manual online for this TV?

I uploaded a copy of the service manual ages ago to my google drive. Its for the 14" but applies to the 20" too.

I've been jealous of Bancho's monitor for a while now. There's a picture of Link to the Past on it that he posted a while back that shows the individual pixels.

If I'm not mistaken, it's a shadow mask and not an aperture grill. I prefer that look.

Was searching for SCART switch boxes and found this on eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/371523292511
On the one hand the SCART out is wired, which I remember hearing is bad, but on the other hand it's from that brand everyone uses, Bandridge. Thoughts?

Probably better off with something like below linked SCART switch.

May be worth trying the one you found though, as no one seems too know much about SCART switches, other than everyone agreeing there are issues with all the currently available ones :(

No, I'm in Missouri. Trying to get as many as I can. I'd love to be able to get some to GAFers in the Midwest if it works out that way. I could even drive a bit. I'll be honest, though, I want to make a least a little money in order to feed my overall retro collecting habit....

wow, don't normally go for super clean lookin setups but i do like how that person framed the DATA DISCS inserts, classy

speaking of, the PVM porn in here is gettin outta hand *fans self*

LOL @ the person who told the married woman "and no girlfriend," implying only a single guy who can't get a girl would have such a setup. A person with that mentality must be the insecure type who thinks you have to hide your games and shit (or not own any) in order to meet someone and have them accept you.

I'm at a dozen consoles, two gaming PCs, a few handhelds and 6 hefty CRTs in my place. I'm not single and alone. And I wouldn't waste my time with anyone who has a problem with my hobbies.

+1 all day, i'd buy a drink for this post

i like this too but while the controller hooks strike me as practical, a buddy warned me about coiling them because it'd put pressure on the board inside em or something, wonder if this'd do that or cause wiring to expose

You don't happen to be based in the UK, do you mate? I'm after one.

I've seen a few 14" versions of these monitors in the UK on ebay before at reasonable prices. Maybe a 20" will turn up if you look for it specifically (I was only looking for 14" myself)

i.e. below monitor could be a good deal as the seller has listed it as cctv monitor, but it's got the inputs of a studio monitor, although it will likely have seen a lot of use.

Thx! Mind doing a quick test for me in taking some pictures from the TV of an
image containing some high-frequency Y luma components? A zone plate would be
nice, but a picture of a game having some high-frequency luma content will do
as well.

What I would like to see is how the image changes while changing the Peaking
Level from 0 to 3, 6, and 9dB under the following specification:
Video: composite (NTSC)
Peaking Freq.: 2.6MHz
color off

Thanls for this. Mainly after a 20" but have been considering a 14" if the condition is top notch.

How close to st louis? I'd be interested in a 20"

Any Framemeister experts who can help me out? I'm afraid I've broken my very expensive birthday present... T_T
I was going to say post your problem here and someone could help, thinking someone like Peagles would be good in a situation like this...but wait! This post IS by Peagles.

We went too deep *gulp*

Really though, I'm a PVM diehard and I'm new to the upscaler stuff.

Does anyone know if it is only mono or am i missing something?
Having looked at the sony BVM's they also only have one port for audio

what's your issue?

yeah what you done did peagleses

I updated the firmware to the latest, and loaded some of FirebrandX's profiles on the microSD too, so I don't know which of these two is causing my problem, but now when the FM has been on for more than a few minutes the entire screen starts flashing green and won't stop until I turn it off and on again. Then after a few minutes it starts flashing again. Between flashes I can make out the picture but I don't want to have a seizure so I can't play like this, lol...

check your sync settings on the framemeister. Can also try resetting to defaults, though I can't remember how to do that off the top of my head. I think it's near the bottom of the options perhaps?

If neither of those things work, try updating to a different firmware and see if that fixes it.

Sync issue maybe?

Try just resetting the settings. There's an option in the menu somewhere.

You do have to be careful how you wrap the cord due to strain on the wire. I wrap mine similar to how they are wrapped in the packaging, twist tie and all.

Hanging them like this looks clean but is probably even worse for wire strain.

Thanks, I'll try and go back to default and see if that helps first. Otherwise I'll try firmware and sync. I can play for a good 10-15 minutes before it starts flashing, so I'm stumped otherwise.

damn, im on that firmware too (i think?), which profile did you use?

I've only tested the SNES4X one so far.

Odd that it lasts for 15 mins before flashing...

Maybe it's overheating? How are you converting the power supply from your country for the framemeister? (You're in New Zealand if my memory is correct?)

The physical build quality on the FM is pretty low grade.... Or at least it feels cheap in my hands. I wouldn't be shocked if the issue were mechanical/hardware related.

Yeh it's bizarre... It came with a multi-voltage adapter so I'm just using a converter plug. Also I could play it for hours before with no issue, so unless the new firmware is messing with power draw or something... I dunno...

I had some issues with firebrands profiles. I think he sets them up for his TV but manually does some of the sync stuff. I had to set them back to auto, and eventually just rolled a few of my own that look good (720p though).
