Holy shit, my expectations bottomed out when it was rumored keyboard=keytar, but damn. What a huge list of new features. Day one for sure.

I checked some prices for a regular Fender Stratocaster and it looks like they don't go below 900€ for a new one so prepare your wallet (and your anus as well).

Edit: not like it's a bad thing if you really really want a real guitar
Squiers are like $100.

$200 for a realtar/game bundle seems reasonable.

I understand they're the lower tier of the brand then, $100 for a guitar seems so... cheap?

Keyboard hey...watch if we ever get a Led Zeppelin song,it will be Thank You :lol

Seriously though,sounds like fun.

Dammit Harmonix I thought I was done with the whole music game genre but just when I think I'm out I'm pretty sure your going to pull me back in.

Oh and some Alkaline Trio songs would be nice either full fledged releases or Rock Band Network.

This sounds absolutely awesome. And expensive. Might have to get one of each new guitar, my wife will love the "real" 6-string one, though we do own two other real ones ;)

I already was sold since they announced you can transfer everything from RB1&2 + DLC again, so you have a lot of content and can use it in the new game "environment" (and with the addition of Party mode it's perfect).
makes the RB main series the only music game(s) I have and need.

keyboard doesn't really look very fun in the video, but I played piano once so I'll check it out once it's cheap. I bought the RB1 instrument pack new for 43€, so I don't intend to pay a lot for additional instruments.
I'm a bit interested in the "pro"/real guitar, it will be expensive but I could then use the RB1 guitar for bass when friends are visiting... mh

btw. I would like to be able to play guitar or bass x2 even if it wouldn't make sense on stage, just so no one is forced to play one or the other. Actually it would be cool if up to 4 people could play the same instrument if they want.

Okay, I can't get the USA Today video to play and the version on YouTube cuts off just as they start talking about being sensitive to people who already have hardware...

So, these new guitars are cool and all, but I can use my existing ones, right?

Also, addition of keys means we need some Vince Clarke up in here. DM, Yaz, Erasure - whatever.

More plastic instruments?

Real guitar?

If you want it real, just buy a real guitar or keyboard or whatever. No need to buy a game along.

I dont know. I wanted the music genre to grow and evolve, but this seems like the wrong turn for it.

Guitar Hero aint making anything better with the "Same thing, but MOAR" approach either.

Im staying away from more plastic stuff... the same way i kept a fair distance from Tony hawk ride....

What was your idea of evolving that wasn't a step towards learning the music while playing the games?

I am very excited for this! :D

All this needs is an acoustic guitar that you can play at parties and get the ladies to drop their panties for you you, puddles style

Absolutely awesome.

Also, if Microsoft open up their conference with a full 7 man Power of Love with pyrotechnics and towers of fire, they'll instantly win E3.

I really hope I can use my MIDI keyboard but that little mini Roland AX looks like a beast, I hope they refine it though, that was only a prototype.

Are they going to chart the keyboards on existing tracks? COB tracks are screaming for it... There is looooads of DLC with keyboard parts though...

Someone posted something on page 2 of Harmonix saying "you'd be surprised how much hidden stuff there is in the DLC", so maybe they planned a keyboard coming and included the notes.

That's fucking effective software developing! :p

Will pick up a real guitar/game combo. Have no interest in a keyboard taking up space.
Suit yourself ;)

Personally, I can't wait to learn songs for piano with ease. No more playing Synthesia :p Faith No More, Children of Bodom, Rush.... :D

The Green Day songs already had the harmonies built in so I don't see why other DLC authored during the time that they already had the keyboard and harmonies being developed wouldn't have it already built in as well.

People can look at the MIDI files on the PC and see which songs have harmonies built in and which don't, and Green Day is the only ones that did.

It could be that the information is super secret hidden somewhere in a way nobody has read to this point, but at the very least it's not embedded in the songs similar to the way the Green Day stuff was.

He obviously hinted that there is something in at least the more recent DLC so I guess we'll see.

This. I love video games, and have always wanted to play guitar. Im also a huge DMB fan. (I know, I know.) So needless to say, The Rise of the Six-String game definitely had me interested (and still does) with the real guitar, the ability to play and learn at the same time while playing tunes from my favorite band, gets me back into this genre after quite a long hiatus.

However, with all THIS information, an already extensive collection of RB1, RB2, RB DLC songs, a new collection of songs, a keyboard AND a real guitar..... I just dont know. It really depends if prior songs are at least in the process of being updated to use the new guitar and what the final setlist for the two games are.

Ah, who am I kidding... Im getting Rock Band 3 with everything. :lol

7 players... so Broken Social Scene Rock Band and New Pornographers Rock Band confirmed?

Anyway this sounds really really cool. Go HMX!

levious

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

do you not like it? I've been toying with purchasing the full version.

Yeah, Im interested in the keyboard as well, but dont really have hands for keyboard playing, their kinda like the paws of a bear. :lol

But with the inclusion of the keyboard, Harmonix must throw some Ben Folds into this.

BobsRevenge

I do not avoid women, GAF, but I do deny them my essence.
This sounds awesome.

Really interested in the new drum experience. My current RB2 set is a fucking mess. It still works, but the thing looks like someone took a hammer to it.

I disagree. Harmonix will only be sticking to Rock Band from now on. They even slapped a Rock Band skin on Amplitude and tried to pass it off as a new game.

That seems more as a way of name recognition. Kind of what happened with Infinity Ward trying to drop Call of Duty, but when you have something as big not only in the gaming market but has some credibility with main stream you try to bank on that as much as possible. But that is just my opinion.

Back on topic I really do not know if I will be picking this up. I have got both 1 and 2 the first week they were out but really I feel burned out on these types of games, Maybe if they do prove that you can actually learn guitar from this then I may jump back on board.

The 80s setlist so far is amazing.

Hell yes for Rainbow in the Dark. Power of of Love came out of nowhere, but a perfect choice.

Do any of the announced songs NOT have keyboard in them? Crazy Train?

A decent number of them, if I remember correctly. An odd choice.

Yup, that looks like Rock Band, all right. I'm sure I'll be getting this, but I'll probably wait for Costco to get it so I don't have to deal with instruments breaking or not recognizing properly.

Guitar Hero person here, with RB3 will songs from RB1 and 2 work?
The reason I stopped caring about GH was that songs are useless once a new version hits

All (but three) RB1 songs, all RB2 songs, LEGO, Green Day and DLC will be compatible in RB3. The Beatles songs will probably not be compatible and the old songs might not have any of the new features, but that remains to be seen.
