their mech reminded me immediately of Armored Core too, because of the shape and colors, and AC mechs are definitely more "western" compared to the average mech you get from Japanese games and anime.

It's been a while since I thought of AC mechs like that. I usually think of the more whacky noblesse oblige style now.

The more squareish mech and shoulder launchers made me think of Mechwarrior or Battletech instead.

Great that Vanillaware is trying it's hand at Sci-Fi, and the trailer music reminded me so much of Yoko Kanno's work on Ghost in the Shell:SAC. I hope it's representative of the rest of the soundtrack.

Indeed. I'm not actually sure what, if anything is actually going on in the game. We see a destroyed city, a destroyed school... basically ruins porn Kamitani-style. Which strays quite far from his fantasy work. Very different visually.

Not a huge VW fan but their art rocks and Sakimoto is a god. Will keep an eye on this.
