Video game art/designs that just upset you.

For some unexplainable reason I absolutely hate the cover/title art of sunset overdrive while I really like the in-game visuals. It feels like it belongs to a completely different game.

Yep, those changes were too drastical. Also, I liked the Spartan models in Halo 3 the most, because they kept them simple. Halo 4 just has too much customization, if you ask me.

As a person who lkes those designs, and a person who LOVES customization in games. How can a game have TOO MUCH customization. Its not like its needed to enjoy the experience.

Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment bastardizes Western art and a Japanese IP.

typical bad JRPG design.
Do you not like chibi art styles?
People do (or used to) wear clothes like this so I really don't see the problem.

What I don't like when people post Etrian Odyssey in these kind of threads/post they only show the same images. There's more to the game than lolis

Anywho my vote has to go for black characters in Dragon Quest.
I'm tired of seeing the stereotypical huge red (sideway) oval lips.
For some reason it gets on my nerves.

My man, and yes those designs are awesome.

Sometimes the heels can be justified, like when the character actively uses them in combat like Bayonetta or Raiden.

I think "impractical" clothing is also excused in any setting where the characters are supposed to be superhumanly competent. If I can swing a slab of metal twice the size of me around my head like a twig/run up walls like a spider/etc. then I'll wear whatever I want because it has no meaningful impact on my competence

Heavy on the bloom, lens flares, motion blur. And a general lack of colors. Even in horror games i prefer it to have plenty of color, just avoid basic colors if you have to, but not bleak please.

One I like the armor.

Two considering halo is highly influenced by a lot of Japanese stuff, I suppose some of it would look like its coming out of an anime.

But I do not agree with you because it just looks like cool space armor.
People do forget how much Japan Sci-Fi and West Sci-Fi cross breed when it comes to the highest level of the media.

Happiness, I really like how cheerful looking she is, it also helps that she's a beast in the game.

Me too. Nothing gross or anything. IU just relaly like the design of teh cihld in the ridiculously revealing swimsuit. i love the way they sexualize her chil-d-like hips. Ftw. I'm a 25 year old male

Tidus, FFX, is one of the worst offenders, I can't fathom how Square could put in such an INCREDIBLY bland and boring character in the game. Ruins it for me, really, the Meg Ryan comments don't help either (once seen can't be unseen).

Kitana's second costume in MK9. Tries too hard to be sexy, but fails spetacularly with those disturbing lips. Give me Mileena's mouth, it disturbs me less than this PoS:

In fact, I don't really like MK9's art style at all. Look at this Sonya render, her mouth is laughable and it feels like a failed attempt at CG looking realistic.

Yikes, the anime/chibi/jrpg art style hate is real.

Recently I haven't been able to get in to realistic designs in games. A shit load of AAA games are doing their best to wow us with how real they can get. Everything begins to look the same, or samey.

I'll take chibi/anime/jrpg art styles over realism any day.

Don't like those old 90's western CG rendered characters (see: any random PC game boxart from the mid 90's) or those WOW-style characters with the huge chunky boxy armor with spikes everywhere. Also hate the generic grey rubble bloom-filtered post apocalyptic worlds so common last gen.

gotta go with halo 4. They made human and forerunner everything look the same. Humans lost most of that boxy industrial look and forerunner lost all of their religious, grandeur and relic like appearance and just became "angular" blobs with tron lights. Then they put it in everywhere and it just ended up boring and generic by the end. The thing that made forerunner architecture interesting in the first halos is that they were scarce, having just enough so that you never get fatigued by it.

the halo 4 enemy designs are some of the worst enemy designs I've ever seen in games. They look like they belong in metroid and do nothing for the halo sandbox. The whole point of every new enemy addition in halo had been to introduce new gameplay elements to the game, but in halo 4 they just re-made the halo 3 evolved flood in the form of those dogs, then put in more elites but made them teleport around randomly and made their weak-spots impossible to see/hit.

I like the armor in halo 4, but it's just messy at times, and they needed the red edit marker and really say "where does this fit in the halo context", i think reach hit a nice balance while halo 4 armor went too extreme with it.

Also the JRPG stuff, its just silly, and yet it takes itself to seriously in that regard. It just looks like a train-wreck, like that girl who wears waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much makeup but thinks it makes her look pretty.

I've mentioned a few times already that I really don't like that Dancer design from EO. Sadly I see it posted a lot and people don't seem to mention the many designs in those games that I think are pretty good. Both male and female.

WTF happened to Spyro?

To be fair, if you take off the nostalgia goggles, Spyro was always an ugly, cutest-common-denominator character design. If it weren't for the history he has with gamers, his original design would blend in with current smart-phone games and nobody would notice.

"Cool space armour"

:lol :lol :lol

For reference. What it looked like before 343i got their tainted hands on it:

This is actually a great design, it just makes people uncomfortable.

it'd be a great design if she weren't wearing assless chaps one would expect during some strange gay pride - belly dancing - carnival hybrid event. (there's really no reason to expose the inner thighs)

That ankle funnel guy is seriously the absolute worst. Holy shit, I'm at a loss of words at how overdesigned that crap is.

This stuff is obviously also beyond garbage. Worse though, this one in particular reminds me of that anime Suisei no Gargantia which I felt pretty meh about overall anyways but I couldn't believe how blatant the fucking fan service in there was.

The main female character (and her friends for that matter) even did some ridiculous belly dancing in one episode and damn, the whole art style is so... urgh. This kind of red glow on their shoulders and checks which is like some kind of perma-rouge. Even if I felt like the anime executed well on the kind of story it tried to tell (which had some very serious and somewhat interesting ideas) I couldn't take it seriously when you constantly get huge tits or half-naked characters shoved in your face and they even do 1-2 fanservice episodes right in the middle. Just what the fuck.

Seriously, search for the belly dancing scene and tell me that's not just creepy considering they're like 15 or sth, belly dancing for an audience consisting to a large degree of grown up men.

This. I thought it was cool that they made him a pro athlete but there's too much other shit, between the character design and the direction they chose for his dub...

Chaps are assless by definition and design, do you even chaps bro?

To be fair, some kind of belly dance dresses are suppose to be like this.

There's also some one live in Iran think this is bad and should be prohibited.

And this is the result.

Putty Squad
And, of course:
Vaan.PNG

Perhaps the worst character design I've seen in a Final Fantasy game.
I can't see Vaan has the worst Final Fantasy character design, especially when we have freaking Nooj:

God, that is the most embarrassing design I've ever seen in a video game.
