Walmart in-store Wii U preorders begin 10/14

For those shocked about low turn outs at walmart for this, Walmart is not a normal place for preorders, how often have you seen them do this before? Gamestop, best buy, etc. sold out fast because its a known thing.

edit: Beaten by Drain

But you have to admit that they are handling it properly, that is if what is on paper is true. Instead of taking more then they can handle they are cutting it off at some set number. I'm taking my chance with this cause I don't want to do an online order and I pretty much don't shop at Gamestop no more. I have hope that this all works out in the end but I won't know for sure until the morning of the Nov. 18th of course.

got to the store about 3:30 and they let me put money down. He had no idea about any 'limit' for pre orders, but said they had taken about 10 so far today, so I should be good, I think. Of course I'll get there ASAP when it comes out just in case, but I'm a little more confident now.

hmmmmm maybe i read a few posts wrong but why are some people saying that the layaway fee is different then actually paying for the system?

it says i need to pay $333 for the wii u system since i paid $43 with my deposit

it would have been easier if wal mart let us camp, i was planning on camping cause its fun B^)

Since my store only lets people preorder 1 per person I sent my friends down to get me 2 more and to put my name on the pickup list so I could pay them off and pickup all 3 of my preorders at midnight...I sure hope I can make some money off these things.

Terrible.

I don't think the Wii U flipping is going to take off like the Wii one did. There are tons of them on eBay already and very few have any bids. After I got home with my Walmart preorder this morning I checked on eBay to see if anyone had already put their Walmart preorder up and they had. Who's going to pay $750 for a Walmart preorder that anyone can walk down and get right now?

Maybe once the ad campaign starts we'll see them in higher demand, or after Black Friday when people are rushing to find one. As long as Walmart is still taking preorders though it's pointless to try and flip one on eBay.

tax, dude! $376 sounds about right.

the dude actually gave me two orders without me asking, and I thought about it, but told him to make it just one. I did it with PS3 and made a buck but honestly I decided I'd rather other people be able to get them. Good luck with the flipping but don't destroy people over the price!

I hope flippers get fucking BURNED, it's a shitty practice...

OT: I got my pre-order in, it's an xmas gift for my son and me, so I know he's gonna be excited.

I got mine in today. Was very easy. The guy at the layaway counter first looked at me like I had 2 heads when I said WiiU layaway, but fortunately there was another worker who knew exactly what I was talking about and got out that sheet. She filled the order and I paid my $43 and change and she gave me my receipt.

Now how should I handle picking it up? Do I need to be there at midnight or earlier on Nov 18th? Or can I show up the next morning? What are everyone's plans?

You can pick it up at midnight and on. I'm going at midnight just to make sure I get mine.

Got mine like at 2:40pm, surprisingly, I got the last pre-order/layaway available in that particular store, so everything went easy and fine, I even explained the man working there how the Wii U differentiates from the Wii and what the Deluxe bundle included, he knew it was a whole new console but didn't know anything more than that.

He was all good until he asked me if I was pre-ordering it for my little brother, yeah, because a 21-year old girl can't be interesed in a videogame system.

Wal-Mart is the largest retailer in the U.S. Their allocation of Wii U's has to be huge. Not to mention they have spent millions in IT systems to track the stock of the items in their stores and re-fill items as soon as possible. I think they are less likely to over-sell the Wii U than Best Buy, Toys R US or even Gamestop. I think you guys with pre-orders there are going to be fine.

My girlfriend and I walked into the local Wal-Mart a bit before 8 PM. I went to the electronics department and asked the guy if he knew anything about the Wii U preorders, and he pulled out a copy of the paper with the details on it and let me know to head over to the layaway department. He then called over to the layaway department, to let him know we were coming to get ours ordered. They couldn't find the paper with the barcode when I got over there(someone from an earlier shift misplaced it), so they promptly printed a new one. I paid $50 down on one, and walked away a happy customer.

Yup, and the fact that this is a Layaway, not a pre-order, guarantees that your item will be there waiting for you to pay it off and pick it up until December 14th and even a few days more than that.

Any idea what Walmarts that close at midnight will do for pre-order pickup? Or best bet is to find a Walmart that is 24hr or opens until at least 1am?

The thought of flipping Wii U's never crossed my mind when they first went to preorder everywhere else, but after they sold out nearly instantly it I decided I'd give it a shot. It is clear the demand is there already, at least for hardcore gamers, but if Nintendo starts the marketing machine and gets people going for the Wii U like it did the Wii then the demand is going to be crazy. I actually think all the preorders so far have been taken by gamers (or scalpers) and that the normal person doesn't even know about the Wii U, so once they find out the prices are going to be insane since basically every console has already been claimed.

I did stand in a few lines and wait months to get a Wii and I was very disappointed with it so I guess this is also my revenge.

Basically you just robbed other kids' chance to able to play it before christmas because you want a revenge. That's low blow.

I tried to reserve 2 today at my walmart but they told me I could only reserve one. The employees didn't seem to know much. Is the info on how many you can reserve located on the paper they are given with the directions on how to reserve these for customers?

Resellers simply transfer the consoles to consumers who can afford to outbid others. They're still making some kid's Christmas who otherwise wouldn't have gotten one because their mom couldn't be in the right place at the right time.

This is good to know that they definitely are sticking with a set limit. Everything should work out fine it seems.

The person helping me out couldn't find the limit on the sheet and called the manager. He didn't know either and said if it doesn't state it, it's unlimited. So I'm guessing it's manager choice.

It's the largest retailer in the world, not just in the US. Only thing that comes close is Carrefour in France, and they are not even close in all reality. They just get second place.

I will laugh my ass off if the "Overwhelming demand" is due to flippers and everyone who legitimately wants one at launch already has a pre-order.

Seriously, what you're doing is pretty sick and I hope you get burned.

Btw quick warning to anyone who paid in full - the instructions say you HAVE to leave at least 1 penny left on it, otherwise it basically doesn't go into the system as reserved. I originally paid for mine in full, but then as I was asking about pickup the woman who rang me up noticed the "important note" on the memo.

Had to get a refund on the initial transaction and ring it up again. That time I just paid the minimum reserve and then the register printed out the large reserve receipts.

I was the sixth person to reserve at my Walmart yesterday. And their filing system was a small Tupperware bin. Hoping I actually get one on the 18th, but after that initial mistake they seemed to get what they were supposed to do.

Thank you OP.

I was able to reserve myself one at my local Walmart with this info after all my local Gamestops sold out instantly a couple months back.

Shaping up to be a fun Christmas.

Everyone at my local Wal-Mart that has used the Wii-U layaway has pre-ordered 2. This tells me it's all gonna be gobbled up by flippers....

It just reminds me of Black Friday when you have flippers picking up entire displays of the games and dumping them into their carriage.

I hope flippers get fucking BURNED, it's a shitty practice...

Agreed. Although the real fix is for hardware manufacturers to make enough to meet actual demand or at least be plentiful enough to give that impression. Didn't happen with any home console in the last generation. Hopefully this one will be different.

I hope it works out for you as a vendor who works with walmart I can't tell you how many times we have basically been told, fuck you we are walmart what are you going to do.

Good luck

Apple's produced 5 million iPhone 5's since launch and that wasn't enough to meet their demand. There are times, like with the Wii, where you just can't make enough and, by the time you do, demand dies.

Reducing the number of or totally eliminating flippers would definitely help supply meet demand and that's why I hope these parasites get burned so badly they don't even consider it when Microsoft and Sony release their next consoles.

So I walk into WalMart and the girl at Layaway knows exactly what she was doing. Took less than 5 mins total.

That said, I really hope scalpers get fucking burned or at least this one guy. I understand trying to make a little profit off of it but the girl tells me that one guy showed up to preorder 10 units. That fucking outrageous. All you have to do is bring multiple people and you could literally buy out an entire stores supply. Fucking crazy. I'll be there standing in line before midnight. Not gonna get screwed cause 1 guy wants to be a fuck head.

If it's worth anything, according to what I've gathered from this thread, they'll physically hold your console for you before notifying you it's ready to pick up, so it's not like the dude buying 10 of these is necessarily going to wind up denying you yours.

Midnight launch, hmm? Sounds interesting. Doubt I'd really be up to playing the thing so early in the morning, though.

If anything, I'm sure scalpers won't bemaking that much of a profit. Looking through Ebay, I found multiple Wii U auctions with a lot of them not having any bidders. Who knows though, maybe the hype train will catch on sooner or later and those parents who weren't able to get one will do so for their little ones.

I originally had no intention of picking it up at midnight but my fear is that Walmart may oversell preorders. In which case fuck heads like the guy mentioned would get consoles that could have gone to others who actually want them. The one plus with Walmart is they're only Doing the deluxe bundle for preorders so if it comes down to it I could still pick one of those up at midnight.

I hope i can pick up the system at midnight since my wal mart is a 24 hour one, knowing my wal mart there will be old people in the electronics department, that will be hard to do

wal mart pls

lo, I love how people act like scalpers are as bad as murderers or something.

Though I will say the ones who got like 5+ are dicks. I'm (hopefully) getting two. One to keep and the other to pay for a good chunk of the first.

The people who pick up 1 or 2 thats at least reasonable. But seriously? 5? 10? That's fucking nuts. Those are the people I hope end up losing money on selling these. Then again they can just return them, but I'm gonna assume a purchase so big would only net them store credit? Idk, either way, fuck those guys.

Might as well complain about Walmart and GameStop, they are doing the exact same thing

Might as well complain about a retailer? What? The retailer that makes pennies on each console sold? The retailer that's selling them for The price set by Nintendo? This makes no sense

Why do so many people think scalpers risk or lose money? Worst case they return their unopened units for a full refund (or don't pick them up at all and get a refund on their deposits). This is why so many people do it, and do it in huge bulk (10's of units). No one with half a brain cell is going to sell at a loss that's worth more than the time and effort of driving back to the store.

I'm almost certain you pay a fee for eBay even if the auction fails.
