Walmart in-store Wii U preorders begin 10/14

There really is zero risk involved in the flip really. Starting the auction at a price that will cover the fee's/shipping appropriately and the worst case is you don't sell the item, and spend $0.28 driving back to wal-mart to return the goods for the full amount paid.

Listing items on eBay for the first 50 each month or so is free, unless you're dressing up your auction with stupid extra features.

Got mine today! I posted in the main thread, didn't realize there was a thread for it. I brought them the email running through the internets just in case, but they knew what to do.

Scalpers are reprehensible but the real problem are the people who buy from them. They hurt themselves and others by supporting and perpetuating the scalping market.

Yup, save yourself $$ by just waiting a month or pre-order it. Dont know why people would pay double or triple the MSRP.

I hope it works out for you as a vendor who works with walmart I can't tell you how many times we have basically been told, fuck you we are walmart what are you going to do.

Good luck

I don't think your first comment was necessary but whatever, I said that because I've had many experiences regarding their layaway system, one time I forgot about a item I had there, and even after the due date they had no problem keeping my account for some days until I had the opportunity to go and pick it up.

As long as they keep our reserved systems in the back and out of the shelves, everything should be fine.

Got my order in since I had to cancel my paid off one at Gamestop due to needing money at the time. But the game is back on! Deluxe here I come!

Reprehensible? Well, I'm going to buy two with the intention of selling one to pay for the other. If I'm proactive enough to get them both reserved and wait in line, I'm entitled to sell at the current market value to make a potential profit. It's the American way. I'm not using any insider information to obtain the thing, so my conscience is clean. Not to mention it's the only way yet another gadget works with my budget/wife during a very expensive Christmas shopping season.

I also want to emphasise the risk. If I would've done this with the PS3, chances are I wouldn't have made a return. For all I know the WiiU demand won't be worth my time and money in the end.

Well at this point I'm waiting till I can walk in and pick one up. Neither store near me has a clue still about this. Oh well. Hopefully it won't be months upon months of waiting.

im doing the same, mostly becasue the launch line up isnt that impressive to me.

You should show them the memo (a google search'll find it for you), which has the item # and UPC code on it. It also depends on who's manning the Layaway department - someone who's usually there or a fill-in. You were going to the Layaway department (the Walmart.com Services desk), right? If you went to Electronics they might not know about the pre-order/Layaway program. It sounds like this is the first time they've done it this way for a product launch.

Oh I did the other day. They were like well that's not official company memo so we can't go by that. These were management mind you that the layaway people called back there. I even showed them their damn flyer. I really think the IQ of those running the stores around here have dropped to such low levels it isn't funny. I'm ok though. As I said I'll just patiently wait while my copies of Zombi U and NSMB sit on my shelf safe for that day I can pick one up.

If it were me I would be thanking them for their time and asking for their district manager's phone number. The two managers at my store knew about it and they had copies of that memo printed out at the layaway desk.

The Wii U Layaway pre-order thing is also in the local ad for this week. Check Walmart.com for your local one - it's on the front of the weekly flyer. They might even have the flyers in the store - you can just take it up to them.

The memo with the bar scan? You should have asked them to scan the bar code, their computer system would have did the rest. They can not deny what their own computer tells them.

Some parents just feel that they have to get their kids the hottest new technology for each Christmas. So when they hear that the Wii U is coming out (which they likely won't until it has already been released/very close to release when it is too late to preorder) they'll panic and find that it is sold out everywhere. So their options of getting the console before Christmas are either buy from scalpers or find the time and energy to sit outside in the cold and camp for one. They could also just wait until after Christmas to get it, but I'm certain the kids wouldn't take too well to that and there are many parents who strive (too much) to please their kids.

Yea you'd think but nah they refused to. And yea I'd have asked for a district manager if I really gave a damn. To me yea I'd love to have one launch day but I honestly just don't mind waiting and at that point if they're that stubborn and don't want my money then I'm ok with that. It's their loss. At the end of the day I'll eventually have my WII U.

so how much are people planning to make off selling these on ebay? whats even the best time to sell it? How much were Wiis selling for around Christmas 2006

Or... front of their circular!

You know screw it. Just called one that's along the highway on the way home. They are still taking preorders so I'm just going to preorder there and pick it up that morning after when I come to work.

I have decided that I am just going to wait until around spring or so to get one. That way I can see how the launch goes and give it time to get a couple more games I want.

the circular doesn't have the barcode needed to scan into the system. also, this circular was posted a couple of days ago in this very thread =P

I just got back from pre-ordering and have the actual in-store info (including bar code) right here:

And I don't know what people are talking about Layaway fees. They didn't charge me at all.

you were supposed to be charged. might want to look into that. its also nice to see that instructions for launch day/night are clearly written out.

Ah. Preorder accomplished. Was number 7 at the Supercenter at Reno & I-40 in OKC. Now that Monday I can pick mine up on the way into work.

WOOT WOOT!!

I got in on 9:00 AM Sunday and was the first one, so I'm pretty happy.

I have a friend that's going to let me use his employee discount too. Extra score!

I'm holding on to my White/Basic preorder with GameStop just in case, but I'll be nice and let it free on launch day once I have the Black/Deluxe set in my hands. Then one lucky person can walk in and grab one.

I have that exact same sheet with me right now. I asked the clerk to let me keep a copy of it after I made my layaway order. And I did pay the $5 layaway fee, but in the fine print, I'll get the $5 back on a Wal-Mart giftcard when I pay for it in full on launch day

Yea that's the one thing I don't care for but I'll live. I can always use that giftcard on a game sometime. BTW is anyone else's receipt like 5 miles long? I mean I've seen some long receipts but goddamn this one is freaking long as hell. I've honestly seen nothing like it. It has like 2 pages worth of information printed on the damn receipt. All this for one item too.

Mine was really long as well (should be the same for everyone) but my store folded it up so just the important information was showing then stapled it before handing it to me.

ITT: People that never shopped at Circuit City.

The transactions are being done as layaways, so yeah, the receipts have all the layaway stipulations and agreements on them.

Oh that would suck. Mine didn't staple mine. She just handed it to me and I folded it up. It's sad that layaway stuff just has to have so much crap on the ticket. Back in the days it was as simple as take the item in and pay some on it. Guess since everyone has gotten so sue happy anymore they have to cover their asses.

Some states get cash!

I just did this. I was worried because I didn't find out the information until just a few minutes ago. Somehow I missed the GAF thread, so I heard about it from that site where you Go for Nintendo.

Considering this is done via the layaway program, I think people are going to jump on this when they know it's available. Get one while you can!

Yeah 90% of it is just fine print that details the payment options, procedure, etc. My receipt was 3 feet long.

You people sure got some long receipts. Mine wasn't longer than what you'd usually get for, say, just buying some milk.

Kind of concerned about that, actually.

I would be if I was you. As mentioned a lot of it is all the layaway policies. Those take up a good 2 1/2 feet easily.

Well what's your receipt say?

And did you have to sign and initial their copy of the receipt? 'Cause I had to do that.

I got a six inch by six inch square of cardboard with mine and about a ten inch receipt stapled to it. Given strict instructions to NOT LOSE THE FUCKING RECEIPT!

Pre-ordered the black one...

I hate myself right now.

The fucking things I do for Monster Hunter...

Did you pay for the whole thing? When they first rang me up, I got what you did - a very short receipt. But the person who did the transaction didn't realize the note on the memo that said you have to leave at least 1 penny on it. I ended up getting a refund and they had to redo the transaction again (and at that point I just paid whatever the minimum was and figured I'll just pay it off on the 18th).

Yeah, I did pay in full. I mentioned that I thought I was supposed to leave a penny on it, but the cashier didn't seem concerned about it.

The store copy was a lot longer. She took that and wrote "PAID IN FULL" on it, and then went to talk to somebody (a superior, I'm hoping). Despite there being people in line behind me.

I suppose it can't hurt to double-check with customer service sometime. Besides, they got my name wrong. (My last name apparently matches my first. Um?)

I had a Gamestop preorder, but just in case I got a Wal-Mart preorder/lay-away too... I'm not sure I trust Gamestop to actually get a full shipment in by launch day, and I think I'm number 11 or 12 there.
