Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 2 |OT| FOR THE EMPEROR!!

ugh I just got really burned by buying this game blindly, I liked the first one and COH, saw the high scores on steam, and assumed it would be a nice hold over till sc2.... then .....I was wondering when I would get to build a damn base by the 2nd planet, then I actually research the game and my heart sank.....If I wanted a Diablo game I'd play through Diablo 2 (which I've owned since 2000 and haven't gotten past act 2 on NORMAL :lol , or Titans Quests, which I've hardly played yet also own :lol ) ....

well that's 50 down the toilet.. *right click - delete local content* :[

How can I get the 15 Skull achievement!? I've managed 14 a whole bunch of times and I'm trying to do it on the easiest mode there is! WTF!?:lol

Pretty sure it's fairly easy to get 15 on a defense mission. You have to kill everything, and the time is pretty much set anyway, just dont lose any squads.

so i can get this for ~£15 is it worth jumping in yet or waiting until more patches are done?

Depends on what you like - but it's a great looking, technically solid game with fairly good balance - the new patch due Tuesday brings a host of UI improvements, 2 vs 2 map with two four player maps and a few balance fixes.

Personally I love it, I've only really played it online and while there are some minor annoyances it doesn't stop it being a very enjoyable game.

http://community.dawnofwar2.com/blogs/?p=645 Patch notes for anyone interested.

===============================
Patch 1.3.1
===============================

New Content

• Two on Two game mode is now available for ranked play.
• Two new four-player maps have been added to the game: (4p) Medean Cliff Mines and (4p) Ruins of Argus. These are available for ranked and custom games.

• We have added a benchmarking performance test; you can find it in the Graphics options tab.
• There are eight new sync kill animations in the game. Keep your eyes open for some new carnage!

New Options:

• We have added a “Push to Talk” option for in-game voice chat. When enabled in the Game Options screen, tilde (~) will control chat.
• We have also added a “Advanced Sub-selection” game option. When enabled sub-selection behavior will be the same as Company of Heroes, where a sub-selected squad will be the only one to receive orders.

Stability

• Fixed several crashes where invalid data was being written to logs.
• Fixed a common multithreading crash.
• Fixed some out-of-memory crashes on Vista 32.
• Fixed a crash that could occur if Avitus was reinforcing when a game ended.

UI Change

• The previous PvP squad decorators have been replaced with decorators based on the squad role. The new decorators identify units in a way that is consistent across races. A new loading screen tip has been added to explain the new images.

Replay Improvements

• Capture progress bars are now visible.
• Commander wargear and squad upgrades are now visible on unit selection panel.

• Tankbusta targeting priorities have been improved, now prefer to target vehicles.
• Fixed a bug where demolition charges could pass through terrain and not detonate.
• Fixed a bug where the Techmarine could continue to repair after being knocked down.
• Squads now unload from a vehicle when it is destroyed.
• Full resource refunds are now granted when a building that hasn’t started construction is cancelled.
• Adjusted refund costs on the Webway gate.
• Adjusted refund costs on the Techmarine’s Space Marine Heavy Bolter turret.
• Fixed a bug where a melee leaping unit would follow a teleporting or jumping unit a long distance.
• Fixed Warp Spider Exarch Enhanced Warp Generator and Improved War Generator.
• Adjusted Scything Talon knockback and suppression.
• Fixed a pathing problem on (6p) Typhon Arena.
• Put a build time on Ravener Tunnels. Tunnels are also vulnerable during construction.

Text Bugs

• Fixed tooltip on Lictor Hero’s Adrenal Gland wargear.
• Fixed tooltip on Catalyst ability.

• Players can now select chapter colors for AI players.

Matchmaking

• Removed the “Submit Player Review” prompt that would appear if a player left the countdown before a match started.
• Fixed a situation where a party could get broken up when host migration occurred.

Post-game stats

• We now show a “Player has left” message for all players when you quit out to the post game screen.

Achievements

• Fixed a bug with the Sweeping Advance achievement. Previously it wouldn’t be awarded if the retreating unit was the last entity in the squad.

Audio Improvements

• Speech events now fade out if a higher priority event triggers.

Maybe I can finally put everything back on High without it crashing every 2-3 matches.

Can't believe it's already going to be out by tomorrow. Really excited :D

Sounds like a good patch. Patch might entice me to start playing multiplayer again; just stopped playing after a while for no particular reason, even though I still enjoyed at the time.

Force Commanders are still out in full... force, I see. Tac spammers too.

Actually, since the bubble shield got nerfed I've seen apothecaries/FC about 50/50. Also, strangely, more Warp Spider Exarchs. I've only played one game with a guy who could really use him effectively, but many have tried.

Right there with you on the Tac spam tho, I imagine in the next (balance) patch Relic will make them a little less powerful.

And now people are exploiting it. 2 or 3 squads of them grouped together and it's a pain in the ass to counter. Send a vehicle, and they'll throw their anti-vehicle grenades. Try to send a few ground units in, and they'll die before they can even make a dent. Throw a grenade, or try to suppress them and they'll just teleport.

Almost as bad as SM Sniper Scouts cloaked around the map.

Ran into it twice last night back to back, didn't exactly end the night on a high note.

Nah, not so much. One or two Assault Marine squads and they're done. Got five Scout Sniper squads that way yesterday, and so far they haven't given me any real trouble yet.

Probably doesn't help that I'm playing Eldar. When they're spamming Scout Snipers in a group, my units can barely make a dent before I need to retreat them.

If they have Tac Marines with the Rocket Launcher upgrade, then it's almost impossible for me to take them out alone.

Dawn of War 2 Support Continuing with 1.4 Patch (Shacknews)
Developer Relic has announced that it is already "hard at work" on a 1.4 patch for Dawn of War 2, which will include "many bug fixes, a balance update, new maps, and some awesome new features."

In addition, a 1.3.2 patch for the game will be out tomorrow. The continuous support is part of Relic's plan to improve its patch pipeline over the original Dawn of War.

The 1.3.2. patch notes follow:

* Adjusted the Orbital Bombardment ability to increase damage. Outer radius increased to 150 from 100.
* Fixed an issue in the campaign where one point was getting auto-allocated at level-up if the player resumed an old campaign.
* Made changes to the Mekboy mines. The mines now do drastically less damage and suppress infantry.
* Adjusted lighting on 6P Tiber Outpost.
* Fixed an issue where Guardian squads would switch to melee stance if upgraded with a Warlock, then with Battle Equipment.
* Regenerated AI tuning data.
Much faster than I expected from Relic to roll out more patches. Nevertheless, I'm glad- Been playing A LOT more mp since 1.3 hit. Reaching the 100 hour mark pretty soon according to xFire, which doesn't even include the 17 hours I spent with the Beta.

I finally, FINALLY got my copy of Dawn of War 2. Been out of the scene 3 months since beta ended and holy shit am I rusty as hell. Second guessing my tactics and a little slow on my set ups and what not, but I'll be back up to speed soon. Only need to take a few more beat downs. What took me by surprise is how good the campaign is. Playing through co-op with a buddy on the hardest difficulty is greatness.

I love how my mic works for every single thing except for GFWL. Its been lik that since the beta, thought it might have been fixed by now. Fuck its annoying.

If I remember correctly, you have to fiddle with one of the settings in the GFWL dashboard (or whatever it's called). Crank up a volume slider somewhere, because you practically have to scream to make yourself heard with the default settings.

Overall voice quality will still be absolutely horrible even after you changed the volume, though.

Waiting for the patch to get back in. Played a lot online with friends, but there are certain SM tactics that are just punishingly unfun to deal with in 2v2 and often 3v3. If they tinker with the balance, I'll come check it out again.

Holy shit, 8 maps?! My friends and I were on the edge of giving up on DoWII multiplayer, but if they can hit all the notes right with what they've promised, I can't fucking wait.

Whaaaa?

Come on, is that legit?

It is a grey area.

They give legit keys, but the keys are from countries with low game-prices. It is against the policy of Steam, but they don't really do anything against it, as far as I know.

I am also tempted to do this, but if I do, I will make a separate steam account.

Quite pleased with how much Relic has been updating Dawn of War II post-release and also very curious to hear just how much they've re-tuned the game, seeing how the devs deemed it necessary to the test the waters first with an open beta. Will definitely participate once it hits.

Sorry. It's an old joke from the original DoW. :lol The only thing that could beat a decent Eldar was Necron Wraith Spam.

I know they're weakish now, though. Buffing Banshees would be #1 on my list.
