Was Breath of the Wild graphically downgraded?

Do you think Breath of the Wild was downgraded from the initial reveal?

It's like the Watch Dogs situation. They didn't have finalised hardware at the time so what was revealed was probably on speculative PC hardware.

Edited with second picture. Notice how the 2017 version has a better draw distance.

Looks like less fog now.

Reveal trailers are like that, prettier than what was possible. I don't blame devs for that kind of optimism; whether it is CDPR, Nauthy Dog, or Nintendo. It is often with games that release a couple of years after the reveal so it is not like they did not show the final graphics for months before release.

It's lose/lose for developers. If they put out a target-render, then people will complain false-advertising when the game comes out.

If they put out an honest approximation of where the development is at, people will say the game looks like shit and lose interest.

God help us. Denis Dyack was right.

They did an Ubi!

I hope this is sarcasm, cuz this ain't even close to that.

CG trailers come out all the time, and even if this was in game footage at the time, it was probably downgraded by necessity.

Ubisoft shows amazing graphics up to release and then we find out about the downgrade.

This is before the game's actually come out yet.

First comparison the older looks better.

Second comparison the Switch looks better.

Second picture also shows that you don't need tons of grass to make games look great - the stylistic choice to reduce the grass to make the ground look more cohesive as a whole is better.

The water in that original trailer certainly looks a whole lot better, that's for sure.

I mean, we're not comparing apples to apples here. Yes the trailer was probably a bull shot, but we don't know that more lush areas aren't in the game compared to the starting area.

We could be looking at two entirely different landscapes, so the colorful weeds and long grass could still be in the game, just toned down to some extent.

I still stand but what i said before in some other thread about recreating the e3 2014 screen/gif.

We havent even seen those farmers yet in any footage from E3 14. The game big, let it come out so we can try to re create it.

Aren't those the same thing?

not even close Ubi would say that the 2014 reveal was how the game looks all the way up to release and then we find out it was heavily changed atleast with zelda we knew what we where getting the second the game became playable to the press in 2016.

It's definitely not to the same level of the original reveal.

However looking at the topography of the original reveal, I doubt that area exists in game right now. Would be interesting to know what happened to it.

Also, don't forget about GTA V reveal in 2011, the 2nd trailer in 2012 vs final retail game on 360/PS3 in 2013.

I just hope there isn't a large overlap of the people who were originally hyping up the the graphics and those that now go "clearly it was a target render".

Not talking about if it looks as good as the initial trailer, I'm talking about if it looks good now which by the way, it does.

It doesn't look as good as the 2014 trailer. You said, "who cares?" Which, to me, is ridiculous. It's just brushing aside disappointment because you think it looks "good enough."

That 2014 "in game" trailer is the most vertically sliced vertical slice I've ever seen, and that's a HUGE if as to whether it's in game. Aonuma most likely lied about it being gameplay. The frame rate would dip below 10 if that actually ran on a Wii U. So I would say wholeheartedly no, they didn't. Just look at the TGA 2014 footage of the game to see how far it came since then.

Yes. I assume they couldn't get what we saw in the E3 2014 trailer running well on Wii U.

People are quick to say it was never gameplay, but considering we know everything in the trailer is possible in-game (bosses appearing on the overworld, jumping off a horse and using slow-mo to fire an arrow in mid-air), I still believe it was gameplay, just not running on Wii U.

So?
Just show the games when they're completed. This thing of showing prerendered target footage of games that might not even launch the same generation is dumb. And showing yanky barren aplha version footage is dumb too.

It would be better if all games were shown in an Apple "oh, one more thing..." kind of way. I really don't need to know what I might get to play 3-5 years from now if everything goes to plan.

Edit:
Take the PS4 unveil. How many of the games that got us all hyped up for PS4 will we now play on other platforms instead?
FF7 Remake? Sounds like one chapter will come this gen but we'll probably play it on PS4 Pro.
Shenmue 3? We'll probably play it on PS4 Pro or as a cross-gen title for PS5.
Who among the gamers actually think this is a great way of show games? There should be a rule to never show anything that won't arrive later than a year after the initial showcase.

No, show me. I need a video or something. Yall been saying for 3 years and I still dont see it other than resolution and camera angles and time of day.
It certainly would be really helpful if someone managed to record footage of the same areas shown in the 2014 trailer

Then you get people complaining that they have nothing to show (i.e. the last two EA press conferences).

2014 reveal looks like PS4 fidelity. I bought into it when it was first revealed but in retrospect it's pretty obvious that shit was never going to run on a Wii U.

Developers care to much about pre-release hype and pre-order numbers to wait till a game is complete to show it.
