Week-Long 1up Ridge Racer 7 Cover Story (PANTS DAMAGE WARNING)

Naw I know you are right. There is cheating and always will be. It's just so obvious that it didn't even have to be said. But I didn't expect you to say something compeletly positive about this news anyway so....

The positive part is that it's cool, the game looks sweet and you don't have to play competitively. But that has nothing to do with my point, which is perfectly appropriate to the discussion.

Believe me, I have plenty of experience dealing with online console cheating and bad behavior.

He has a perfectly valid concern, cheating drove away most of RR6 (already niche) community.
I hope there's no exploit in this game.

So what does that mean? Don't they lose?

Catch-up logic behaves as though the players just are having a bad connection and compensates by moving them appropriately when they do get packets indicating movement, as I understand it. Of course, if the race is over, catch up logic can say "you would have won the race". Or something equally crazy.

There's no way to patch this in the X360 version? Sounds like a easy to fix mistake.

If you ever hit the brakes in a Ridge Racer game you're playing it wrong. Double pump the accelerator and you go into powerslide mode. Feather the accelerator to control the slide. There's no turn in any of them you can't take this way.
There's a couple of turns that need a little braking, especially on SP class. I usually just leave my finger on accelerate and tap brake for those sections. Slows me down as necessary and starts my drift.

They've already fixed other network issues, so it's probably something a little more serious. They have to design for some lag allowance, so it may be just taking advantage of that.

Likely just a matter of resources and money if the 360 community for the game is indeed that small. It makes little business sense to put designers on fixing the issue, and then QA on testing it, and then get it onto XBL if it's going to have no impact on profit.

If Namco considered it worthwhile, any exploit or design flaw could be patched in a reasonable amount of time.

Which leads to the PS3. With the "free online hub", I won't be surprised if I see a lot more developers charge players for stuff. $3/month for service, $2 for patches, etc. Especially if suckers are paying $5 or whatever for horse armor.

PRAISE THE LORD!!!! CAN I GET AN AMEN UP IN DIS JOINT!?!?!?!

1080p to non-1080p TV set owners isn't a complete waste - it offers a form of anti-aliasing in the down-scaling, if nothing else.

Although this is true, I still think rendering it at 1080p is a pointless waste with all things ultimately considered.

Considering how vicious Microsoft and Sony have become, 1080p games are worth millions in marketing value alone.

Millions? The problem with that kind of marketing is that it only really works on stupid people and you have to be smart to even know the difference between 1080p and 1080i and 720p. A vicious Catch 22 that will make Sony all of thirty cents if they really try and back this angle with serious marketing ducats.

Yeah, I was wondering what else there was to even discuss abou the game. It's an arcade racer afterall.

Hmm the clips are a nice addition to the feature. There's not much meat to today's update though. Still, it allows for a week long event and that's still nice.

Which accounts for about 95% of the market...

Your point is?

If you can't see the advertising/marketing power of 1080p games and how valuable that will be in the secret console wars that occurs on message boards and school grounds around the globe, I don't know what to say.

The average consumer isn't going to search info out on 1080p and what it means within the gaming industry, they are just going to look at fans of the 360/Wii and say, "My machine is better than yours. I have 1080p games and you don't."

That's a very powerful marketing tool.

Heres the 2nd update

I guess it'll be interesting for the really hardcore RR fans. But man, it sounds like they didn't have any material to fill up a week like they usually do and just stretched it out as far as they could. And of course we won't get any of the good stuff until the final day.

I love that first track, it's like boom boom boom boom, kind of reminds me of Ridge Racers.

That first track was meh... my least favourite type of Ridge music.
The second track has a promising beat, though.
There needs to be more Ayako Saso in the game :(

Didn't like any of them...

somehow i never really like ridge music until i hear it in the game -- i remember being unmoved by prerelease clips of disco ball and explorers, but in ridge city they're different animals entirely.

R4's intro was so f'n kick ass... man I wish I had it saved somewhere... oh cool just found it on Youtube... yup still like it..... hey wasn't there a more musical less vocal version of the song in the game? What's the name of either version? And is that song anywhere to be found on the PSP Ridge Racer?

It's called Urban Fragments. There's the exact version from the intro, and another variant on the R4 OST, don't know about the PSP's soundtrack.

Thanks, now that you've given me the name I should just be able to search through the PSP soundtrack for it.... and it doesn't look like it's there... bummer.

Yeah and his post history doesnt seem to be that bad... I mean compared to NeoGAF standards, anyway.

Stupid reason to ban people. Just disable their avater. They'll get the hint.

Yeah 700 kb is ridiculous for an avatar but damn.

Unless you post at insertcredit, where the only reason to register at the forums is to get the option to turn off sigs/avatars.

This isn't the first time C-Warrior has been banned for his avatar though.

Songs called Movin' In Circles its on Ridge Racer psp

Wait are you saying Urban Fragments is on the PSP version as Movin in Circles?!??!!?!?!

EDIT:

Ok I'm confused... it seems like the FMV intro music should be the song called: Ridge Racer - One More Win, and according to another website Movin' in Circles is the more musical less vocal version of that song....

It looks like Oblivion! No, seriously. The lighting and colors are very similar.

Oh to be young and able to get excited over Namco's sequelupdates again. After two pointless Ridge Racers and three identical Ace Combats I just can't get it up anymore. Even if it does have Reiko.

*three if you want to be weird and count R:evo

Negative Ace Combat comments are punishable by death here you know. Watch it. ;)

I mean the AC series is about air combat, somewhere between realistic and arcadey the biggest difference in 4 and 5 is the focus on narration, more story, basically giving you more of a reason as to why you fly the mission you do.

I don't know see how that could be considered a bad thing. While you might have flown some simliar mission in 4 and 5 it's not like all of them are the same, and on higher difficulties you definitely see improvements in friend and enemy AI.

Of course AC X is "identical" to 5 so I feel ya there... but I still love the gameplay of the series and the variety of missions and large enemy combatants you end up against.

I'd be interested to know which, in general, costs more to render - a 1080p frame w/o AA or a 720p frame w/AA.

And it's also interesting from a comparative standpoint to the PS2. How many devs were even considering supporting 480p on launch PS2 games? Were there any? Yet some of the best looking games on the PS2 ultimately supported 480p, even though it took a year more after the PS2 launch to see the first one.

So if there are devs already trying to implement 1080p for launch games on the PS3, I wonder if that maybe points to a likelihood of seeing it supported at least as much as 480p was on the PS2, if not more.

720p with AA is easier to handle, try it on a PC if you like.

On Ace Combat; I like it and all but can't help but feel it's getting awfully stale. If I had a nickel for every time I've blown up a gigantic laser weapon...

But the second track is not as catchy and it doesn't have the heavy beat.:)

When does 1up's Friday Ridge Racer content go up!??!?!?! Must... See... Gameplay... Video....
