Buffalo just got a new Trader Joe's and my wife's uncle got me a $100 gift card for Christmas. What are some must-try items? Can be refrigerated/frozen.

Check out the dumpster in a few months and try it all for free. Im not joking, I watched a documentary on Netflix. Where people would live basically all on the food that Trader Joes threw out because it was all still good.

Their Chili Lime Chicken Burgers and their Turkey Burgers. 4 for 3 bucks. Maybe less, actually. I just went today and got 2 packs of each.

Fucking great deal and great food.

Their Grilled Chicken (frozen isle, orange bag) is insane.
In the dairy isle, try POWER BERRY (100% juice blend, purple), very healthy and very very tasty.

Funny you mention that. The ex-president of Trader Joe's wants to open a market that sells slightly expired food at deep discounts to make healthy food more accessible to poorer people.

I was going to make a new thread on that.

What? Err I mean WHAT?

That's a cool idea. Isn't that also what grocery stores used to do? Sell their slighty expired stuff at a discount.

Their grilled chicken bag is an amazing value. The bag is stuffed!

Also, their newly introduced K-cups coffee is tasty and inexpensive.

I guess, but what's so awesome about this idea is that it will be targeting under served areas and prepping meals with these "expired" items at fast food prices.

The Food Network had an incredible special last year that showed the vast majority of consumers aren't educated on "sell by" and "expired" food dates. In addition, stores won't put out food that is blemished but are still perfectly edible. The amount of waste in this country is staggering.

Pretty much all stores do this. They toss food that has reached the end of its shelf life. I have a friend who dumpster dives because he hitch hike across the US. Not his go to, unless he has no money and can't work for a decent meal.

Some solid recommendations in here already. I'm not sure if these Trader Joe's items will be available at your location, but some of my favorite regular items:

- Mediterranean Hummus (refrigerated)
- Salsa Especial (refrigerated)
- Smoked Seasoned Almonds
- Shepherd's Pie (frozen)

If you're a beer drinker, their Vintage Ale and Golden Belgian Ale(?) are both solid. They're actually store brand Unibroue beers.

Most of the frozen food items, cookies and other sweets are pretty decent for the price, but I find most of their cereals and chips to be weak.

They have great frozen chapati. I think thats what its called, the buttery flatbread thats like rolled together in a spiral. that shit is the best.

Oh, I wasn't disagreeing with you.
I think it's a great idea and I hope it goes well for him.

Smoked Canned Sardines and Smoked Oysters are great. High in Omega 3s.

They also have frozen meatballs, which are great and are quick sources of protein.

Hey, I grew up in Buffalo! My Mom has been telling me all about this TJ's opening. We've got one opening here in Burlington VT soon too. Anyway, the chocolate croissants in the freezer aisle are amazing, those would be my pick.

Ebelskivers. Mmmm

Really like the cereals but I can finish a box in two breakfasts. Toffee crunch, banana nut, vanilla...

I don't know about Two Buck Chuck at Trader Joe's nowadays, but you can find a lot of great wines in the $6-10 range.

That said, also try out their frozen pork or chicken potstickers/dumplings, good stuff.
