What are some must-try items at Trader Joe's?

Their assorted macarons are good - doesn't compare to the real bakery ones, but way way way cheaper.

Serves nicely as your weekly macarons when you don't want to spend oodles of moolah for the real bakery ones.

Funny enough, I ended up buying their mushroom ravioli, turkey bolognese & creamy tomato basil sauce this evening.

Cooked the turkey bolognese with some other ravioli for dinner. The bolognese is frozen so it makes a quick meal, especially when trying to time boiling some pasta to go with it.

Trader Joe's sells a type of heavy cream in a plastic bottle with a blue label and a pink top. According to the label it is 40% butterfat baker's cream, and I believe them - the stuff is divine, thick, delicious, and just about the best thing this side of clotted cream.

Not all TJ's carry it, though - like, for example, the two that I lived about ten minutes away from in Monterey, which can't have been far from the place where they produced & bottled that cream which, I believe, was in California. Sigh.

I was at my local (Seattle-area) TJ's today and I spied that in the milk section. I'm going to pick it up next shopping trip so I can use it as a sauce base.

Finally made it out there. My time was limited since my 15 month old was getting cranky so I just grabbed anything that looked good. This included:

Speculoos(duh)
Sicilian pizza
Chinese pork buns
Butter chicken with basmati rice
6 pack of Mission IPA

I also noticed all the workers seemed abundantly pleasant and generally in a good mood.

Grabbed some Cookie Butter based on this thread. Stuff is fucking awesome. What all does everyone put it on? I've put it on chocolate or dark chocolate peanut butter cups.

I don't go to the TJs in my neighborhood as often as I should. The parking lot is goddamned maddening and its the reason why i just keep driving past it to Whole Foods.

Yeah, it's not a TJ without a wretched parking experience.

Had this for dinner yesterday:

naturally, I was skeptical as fuck (frozen curds? my wisconsinite friends must never find out), but I had to try it.

It was pretty damn good. I'm sure the fresh stuff kills it, but this was quite tasty (not that there is a whole lot to adding gravy and curds to fries.)

Oh that's good news then. I just bought a bag of this on Friday. Now I look forward to it!

I have a TJ 5 minutes away from me in Buffalo. Too bad I am a college student and can only afford Aldis :/

How are prices comparable to aldis?

I don't think the two are comparable, really. You go to Aldi for ALL of your essentials. You go to TJ's for the shit you can't find at Aldi.

P.S. Ain't nothin wrong with Aldi my man.

It is so hard to go wrong picking out of their frozen food aisle.

Garlic Naan. My mom has stopped making her own and swears by this stuff.

The ever-versatile Soyaki sauce. Soy sauce and teriyaki sauce! What more could you want?

I just wanted to pop back into this thread to mention our TJ's, the first in VT, finally had its grand opening yesterday. We went and it was pretty packed. We spent about $175 and got like 3-4 times as much food as our dollar goes at most ordinary grocery stores in the area, including a wealth of stuff to try, like delicious, salty-sweet chocolate-covered potato chips and bizarrely cat treat-esque but kind of tasty salmon jerky. Plus plenty of good staples. Dinner tonight is a cobb salad with pomegranate seeds, uncured bacon and a smoky tomato dressing, all except the dressing is from TJ's. So psyched to finally have this here! We hadn't been to one in like a year and a half so it was pretty cool to finally have one open up here in VT. Plus, we got a couple of free bags, which will be very handy I'm sure. I'll look forward to trying out some of the recommended items in this thread!

Burlington, Middlebury or Montpelier?

I just got some white cheddar cheese that has shavings of chocolate in it. It's goooood. Also the jalapeño Pub Cheese is sooo good, I dip pork rinds in it.💜💜💜

Also Any tortilla chips with any guacamole and this

I have literally eaten whole jars of this with a spoon in one sitting. I'm not saying I'm proud, but man is that stuff addicting. The coriander seeds. Honestly, if it were not for this I wouldn't need to go back often.

I like most of the trail mixes.

Their go raw trail mix is awesome especially the 10 handful size packs in a big bag.
I have a bag at work for whenever I need a snack. My wife calls it my squirrel food as I always seem to have a pack within reach

I pop there for lunch sometimes, the Mexicali salad with chilli lime dressing is amazing for $3.50. We buy a heck of a lot from Trader Joes

Just went to the one in South Florida today, made sure to grab two jars of cookie butter because I heard from you guys it was so good. The cashier asked if it was the first time tasting it and I said yeah. She opened it up, gave me a spoon and said try it. I want to see your face the first time you try it. Too funny. The people behind werent amused though haha.

I also got the poutine. Gonna find out how that is too eventually.

It was pretty damn good.

The salmon jerky is no bueno for me, kind of nauseating. Everything else has been great though, including the gluten-free frozen macaroons.

Their fish steaks are really good if you cook them up that night. They have a pretty good in house brand pino too.

Mostly, yes. It's just a really good, fun grocery store with a great variety of high-quality, reasonably priced items.

I wouldn't really say it's fun. Where I live (Boston) they're kind of hipstery and most of the local populace goes there because they can stick their nose up at the wholefoods across the street. And some of the stuff they have their is legit great (like I said, fish steaks). But come 11pm, when you're coming back from wherever and you need some chicken ASAP, but you're off fast food, you're going to the 24 hour Shaws anyway. All roads lead back to the 24 hour Shaws.
