What are you looking forward the most and why? Xenoblade X or FFXV?

Harder choice than it should be. I've come to not trust the quality of Square's development for a while now. However, they were behind a few of my favorites.

While X looks well (talking about environments and mecha, not the butt-ugly character models shown thus far), Xenoblade Chronicles is simply a slightly "above-average" JRPG experience. Chronicles was good enough where I would eventually get X if I had a WiiU, but not nearly good enough to make me truly anticipate X.

Rest on a developer with some really strong titles under its belt that is in a nosedive (not including MMOs), but may-possibly-not-perhaps stand to the occasion or on a developer that makes consistently mediocre-to-good JRPGs?

...with the batshit-fucking-insane scale

...with the glorious mech dogfights

...that espouses scenery porn like no other

...that offers truly boundless exploration (that extends beyond even the mountains /smartass)

...that isn't afflicted with toxic levels of scripting
...with the sci-fi epic narrative
...coming off of and building and improving upon one of the most critically acclaimed JRPGs of all time
...that shows and delivers on its promises, rather than pay lip-service to them
...that, most importantly, has dinosaurs

I'm guessing for a chunk (maybe most?) of their character models, they just used their character creator.

What...? What would possibly make you think that? What does that have to do with the quality of the models?

Square Enix is so far down the shitter that people call the lesser evil a genius now. Pretty tragic.

Also, just would like to say. "Lesser evil"? So now Nomura is an evil? Unless you simply dislike his character designs, what exactly has he done that warrants being evil?

He didn't have anything to do with FF13 franchise outside of drawing character designs he was commissioned to design, he didn't create FF14 1.0 and have it bomb. And he didn't choose to have his project constantly sidelined for years to make room for Toriyama's garbage either.

He's never been the management of SE or the decision maker, he's as he says "a company slave", and does what they tell him to do.

Instead he directed KH, which, storyline aside, has remained consistent in gameplay quality for a long time, and also directed TWEWY, which i thought was a really great game story wise and gameplay wise.

He did not direct TWEWY

FFXV by some distance. I am still very excited for Xenoblade X as well, but FFXV is my most anticipated game since 2006.

Xenoblade and it's not even close. The first game was amazing in basically every regard, we've actually seen more of the game in the like two years it's been announced than anything regarding XV in the almost decade it was first mentioned. I also have no faith whatsoever in SE after all the recent FF games. Can't wait for more Xenoblade goodness.

Never been a fan of any of the games he had a big involvement in, character design aside. It's just that SE lost so much talent over the years that people resorted to calling Nomura a genius.

Hard to say. Obviously the OP is biased considering the avatar and everything else...

Don't really think having an X avy really equates to "bias" in a question of "which are you looking forward to the most"... having an avatar of their pick is just part of "looking forward to" the game. >_>

Wearing their answer on their sleeves doesn't mean the answer is any less valid. Same to the handful of Noctis posters

.....What!?

-researches-

Well, damn. Your right.

Infact, if that's true, he hasn't directed much outside of KH besides AC. I guess FF15 will be his first true showing. The KH's can be hit or miss depending on the game IMO, and AC while cool, was obviously just a fan-service movie.

I played TWEWY years ago, how did i not know he didn't direct it...his visual style was all over it must have been the reason

There's absolutely no thought required for my answer. It's without a shadow of a doubt Xenoblade.

Why? Xenoblade is one of my favourite games of the last 5 years if not all time, and the last Final Fantasy I played was XIII.

Or people just like nomura and his games or character designs.

He was the character designer and creative producer though.

Yeah, your right...it might have been unfair of me to assume. It just came to mind kneejerk as an obnoxious sort of "X4lyfe, lol XV sucks" type of thing.

I understand being angry at SE's management's constant fuck ups, the terrible development chain that leads to all this garbage, and how the higher ups always give priority to seemingly the worst developers they've got(how exactly did Toriyama get to make 3 games about his waifu again?), but it seems like pile on at this point.

Its been almost 10 years for me, i was as mocking too at one point, but i decided i wasn't going to go in hating the game because of how long i had to wait for it. Just have it be good.

X on the other hand, i'm sure will be a good game, and one of the reasons i bought a Wii U, but its gonna be Xenoblade with transforming vehicles, i don't really need to see anything other then that to be hype.

Same with Persona 5...its gonna be like the other persona's and SMT in general, my biggest hope with P5 is that it gets new people into the genre, especially since its coming out on PS4 at a time when JRPG's are pretty non existent on high end consoles like PS4. It'll just be that and FFType 0 for a while.

I came into the thread just trying to say that i am hoping for the best with console JRPG's in general considering how Japanese seem to not make them anymore. It really needs some sort of revitalization, and these games success can do that IMO.

I'm looking forward to both of them with Xenoblade just a little ahead of FFXV but goddamn onilink this post is beautiful!

If you're looking for a revitalisation of the jrpg scene on consoles, theres only one game that can have a substantial effect and thats FFXV. A lot rides on FFXV's success.

Final Fantasy 15 no doubt. Final Fantasy is my 2nd favorite series(maybe 1, depends if MGS5 is as terrible as the last few games) and no FF has ever let me down.

Xenoblade was the best jrpg and just one of the best games last gen no doubt, but nothing compares to a FF game. Plus, Xenoblade already has a few negatives behind it. Silent and customizable protags suck, the character designs are ugly, and I'm still unsure of how great the multiplayer focus the game will have. Plus I have to get a WiiU, a system I don't want. Thats a shadow that hangs over any excitement. I will get one when the game comes out, but I'm not looking forward to it.

15 on the other hand looks to be another stellar production. The graphics and artstyle presented in 15 look to be on another level. So far these are the best character designs for Nomura since 8. Simply amazing and really without his usal faults. Everything looks restrained and I'm loving the real world inspiration. It really looks like something unique and simply cool for a FF game. While it's not turnbased, the KH combat has gotten better with each installment so I can only hope 15 is well serviced in the gameplay area.

15 just looks like a really good and fresh FF. The only problem is of course the long development time, but that won't matter when the game comes out and is good. Which I have no doubt it won't be as no main FF has been bad.

Even though I've never played Xenoblade, I gotta say that I'm looking forward to its sequel more than FFXV: the customization, the space opera visuals, the mechs, I'm into that.

FFXV is still a big question mark to me. I don't really know what to expect yet except pretty action RPG.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.

Well I'm glad you're unsure about the multiplayer "focus" when they haven't said anything about any kind of multiplayer. Not sure why people keep thinking MonolithSoft is suddenly going to be making multiplayer the focus considering their development history and especially after what they showed at E3.

FFXV because I haven't had the chance to play Xenoblade proper. No doubt Xenoblade was better than FF13 but until Nintendo gives me a chance to play Xenoblade (read: port the game to Wii U in HD) then I just can't really give a fuck about X.

One of the early gameplay reveals highlighted a communication system, giving the idea of multiplayer.

I know, but they haven't said anything about multiplayer. Why would that be the focus of the game when they haven't even confirmed it's in yet?

Bloodborne. I mean Xenoblade. I am skeptical about FF at this point and thought Xenoblade was fantastic.

P5 may be at the bottom of this list. If I want hilarious teen sexcapades and melodrama, I can always watch Porkies and Full House simultaneously.

I kinda see what you're saying, but you can't look forward to a game without playing it predecessor? How do new IPs fit into that?

If there was no info, sure, but there's like hours straight of gameplay of X.

Oh, cool, is this a new anime?
jk
Ha, I meant gameplay like in the OP.

But who even knows how much "gameplay" the FFVX ones were. sigh...

Well considering thier development history, I also would never have thought a game like Xenoblade would have been made by them. Xenoblade itself is opposite the kind of games the people at monolith are known for. Takahashi even kind of said as much. I'm not convinced there is'nt some multiplayer component that hasn't effected the game. I'm not sure why all of a sudden there's a customizable and silent protag when the the first game didn't have one. Sounds perfect for a online MH esque game mode.

Just wanted to say how excited I am for Takahashi and Monolith Soft. I just hope they don't stretch themselves thin as their games get bigger.

Xenoblade Chronicles X,
It will actually release within a reasonable timeframe and I have much more faith in Monolith Soft than Square.

The Final Fantasy franchise has been one of my favorite series of all time.It was one of the main reasons i used to buy video game systems (consoles/handhelds) in the past.
But SE hasn't made a good (singleplayer) console game ever since 2006.
They made the abomination that was XIII and if that wasn't enough they made another two sequels of that shit.
Meanwhile they have been incredibly cryptic about Versus development and they were keeping us fans in the dark hoping we will keep eating their XIII/Lightning garbage. They still are still keeping us in the dark regarding FFXV yet they have the nerve to ask to "get excited" for it.

On the other hand Monolith Soft delivered one of the best RPGs of all time last gen on the weakest of all last gen platforms. They have been very open about both Xenoblade Chronicles and X's development and they had the balls to show X to the public and their fans (not behind shitty closed theaters) an hour long of pure gameplay in the Treehouse event.
No "please be excited" bullshit and empty promises.

So yeah based on all that i may be personally biased but i think there's nothing in the OP that tries to make one game look better than the other.

I'm curious why OP left Persona 5. Might as well asked the question of whats you're most anticipated jrpg.

Obviously mine is Persona 5.

I was very interested in these two games specifically because they have a lot in common while Persona and other games don't.
Both have action oriented combat
Both are supposed to be open world
And both are being made by two of the most famous Japanese RPG creators.
