What are you looking forward the most and why? Xenoblade X or FFXV?

The leadership is completely different. I assume the people pulled to work on XIV and the like were more like programmers, animators, whatever. Nomura just went and worked on handheld games with Osaka team and whoever handled Dissidia, because those could be made with the resources that weren't being allocated to larger projects.

Yeah, but if those people aren't in any position of creative control then it doesn't really matter.

You're forgetting that some people that were working on XV might have left the project.

I'm going to have to go with Xenoblade Chronicles X. I haven't finished the first Xenoblade, but from what I've played, it's a really phenomenal game and one of the best JRPGs in a long time and from what I've seen of the upcoming Wii U title, it is going to be outstanding.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Final Fantasy. I grew up with it. My parents bought the original Final Fantasy on the NES for me very near to when it originally launched in the US. But personally, I haven't played a Final Fantasy title that I've enjoyed since Final Fantasy X. In fact it took me a while to appreciate Final Fantasy X. When it first came out I played a little bit of it, hated it, and subsequently returned it. A few years later I picked it up again and played through it and finally came to appreciate it for what it was. But I think if I'm really honest with myself, the Final Fantasy series has been steadily declining since the end of the PSX era with Final Fantasy IX, IMHO.

smh where did I say that?

Of course there's overlap. What matters are the lead roles....they are the ones making the design choices and thats why FFXV is fundamentally different.

I'm just trying to understand because someone said XIII will have absolutely nothing to do with Versus. Where I think it will, to a certain extent.

For example, let's take the team of artists. The director isn't the one that's going to be designing everything (at least I don't think so, correct me if I'm wrong), they're going to be green lighting ideas from other people. Artist that might've been on the FFXIII team.

So there is an overlap. Only point I'm trying to make.

The cutscene camera work is fucking phenomenal (the art direction in general is, too, of course).

My favorite scenes from the footage we got have to be (including the one above):

I'm sure they didn't mean literally nothing.

Xenocross/Xenocross Chronicles

Sounds 10x better too

I also just really liked Xenoblade, and 'm still only at the beginning of the game

Even if that's true (that artists who've worked for XIII are also working for XV) it's the Art Director that gives directions to the artists. And from what we have seen Versus/XV looks nothing like XIII (also due to the completely different setting.)

Seems to be a bit of FFXV buzz on these boards at the moment. Are we really expecting something at TGS?

In loosely related news, I finished FFVI for the first time ever today. T'was grand.

The original Xenoblade had so many great locations, literally every single one could be put in a best settings of the generation list. It was the main difference between Square and Monolith last gen, Square were obsessed with graphical power, whilst Monolith were only interested in making a great game.

Well, they were making a game for the Wii as opposed for the PS3/360. :p

And I'd say it's a bit unfair to say Square is obsessed with graphical power when their output on DS/PSP/3DS/mobile far exceeds their ps3/360 output.

For FF, sure. But that's always been the series' claim to fame.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

Amen

On a serious note, I'm looking forward to both series equally.

I'm a big fan of Square's Visual Works division, I love those CG scenes, they are breathtaking - hoping for another movie ala Advent Children.

Let me dream

The one...

...with the substantially improved real-time combat

...with the insanely gorgeous sci-fi art

...that has far and away the best creature design I've ever seen in a game

...with the batshit-fucking-insane scale

...with the glorious mech dogfights

...that espouses scenery porn like no other

...that offers truly boundless exploration (that extends beyond even the mountains /smartass)

...that isn't afflicted with toxic levels of scripting
...with the sci-fi epic narrative
...coming off of and building and improving upon one of the most critically acclaimed JRPGs of all time
...that shows and delivers on its promises, rather than pay lip-service to them
...that, most importantly, has dinosaurs

I'm playing Xenoblade Chronicles right now, actually. It's incredible. Put me in the "X" camp.

And to think that Nintendo first didn't plan to release this game in the US due to the Wii audience not being interested. (or so they said) Took an uproar from fans for NoA to change their mind. Not their brightest moment.

Against better judgement, I have to go with FFXV.

  • Xenoblade was a little bit overrated, it's story was a pretty big let-down compared to Xenogears and Saga.
  • Not having Mitsuda for XCX's OST is a major negative. It's not a real Xeno game without him.
  • FFXV has so much style and just downright oozes that "fucking cool" factor.
  • While SE as a whole has made lots of mistakes, Nomura himself has consistantly delivered the goods.

Going into release, looks like FFXV is an underdog. It's understandable, the game has a lot to prove because the company behind it has been putting out shitty products like FFXIII Saga and the development cycle for this game is pretty embarrassing.

But.I just had the gut feeling that FFXV is about to do something big in a positive way.

I really feel like the game will either single handedly re-establish SE, FF, and JRPGs on consoles, or cement all these things as super niche, washed-up, interests way past their heyday.

I haven't gotten to beat Xenoblade (i was stuck really close to the end) but it was pretty fantastic. Xenoblade in HD, with Mechs and giant dinosaurs sounds amazing to me.
FFXV's CG/concept footage looks great, and it looks like KH but with a cooler look which i can get into. Im a huge fan of the KH series, so that's why I'm looking forward to that despite it not playing anything like a FF game.
X feels more tangible, so I'll go with that. FFXV has been in development hell for over an entire gaming generation, that has me questioning its quality upon release. I also don't feel like it's coming out till really late 2015/2016 at the earliest.

Actually going by the previous games I'm certain X will have the far superior battle system, characters, and story.

Noruma has already made several games that put Xenoblade's combat to shame. And while the characters and plots in his games certainly haven't been genius, they were still more memorable than what Xenoblade had to offer. And while I'm thinking about it, FFXV will have better art as well. Xenoblade has some beautiful landscapes, but character design is a bit below par. The faces in particular just look plain bad. I do think Xenoblade X will be better when it comes to exploring the vast environments. I doubt FFXV will offer travel means as good as the mechs in X look, but there'd have to be some pretty vast improvements over the predecessor to compete in the other categories. Combat in particular.

Opinions though.

I would hardly call this a complaint when Mitsuda hasn't done a Xeno soundtrack since Xenosaga 1, it was Yuki Kajiura for both 2/3 and then Blade had a large mix. Gears and Saga 1 may have had good soundtracks but they were blown away by Saga 3 and Blade.

Heh... you beat me to it. Yoko Shimomura did the OST for Xenoblade as well.

Xeno Games are always great (gears, saga, blade)
FF games are hit and miss but when they hit they are fantastic (FFX, FF7, FF9, FF12)

Disagree completely. When it comes to Soundtracks, I would put it:

Xenogears > Xenosaga Ep. I > Xenosaga Ep. III >> Xenosaga Ep. II >>>> Xenoblade.

So would it be wrong of me to assume that to you Chrono Trigger/Cross are also ahead of Xenosaga 3 or any of the others after it? Mitsuda is amazing at what he does but the bias there seems rather strong to say that even Saga 1 beats out everything but Gears.

Xenoblade X.

Xenoblade Chronicles was one of my fav games last gen. I'm even looking forward to another replay on the New 3DS.

I'll still get FFXV after it drops in price but I'm hyped for Xenoblade X and I'll get it day one.

As much as I love the Xeno series I have to go with FFXV. That is assuming FFXV exists and/or will ever release.

Yeah, I also believe Chrono Trigger and Cross are above of all the Xeno games.

I want to say FFXV but I've been waiting far too long for the game (as well as KH3) that I'm pretty much indifferent about it now.

Needless to say I'm pretty excited for Xenoblade Chronicles X so I'm going with that.

I haven't played Xenoblade even though I own it (just got my WiiU last week), so I can't say that I'm properly excited for the next game yet. A Nomura Final Fantasy though just gets my blood pumping faster.

I've been wanting this since 2006. Since I was breaking pots in FFXII. It's kind of sad because I remember like it was yesterday and it seemed closer than it is already announced as FFXV. I want the open world map, the airship, the summons, and the plot (whatever it may be).

I'm kinda out of the loop with video game/anime music, but what's the last good thing (in say the last 5 years) Mitsuda, Shimomura, Sawano, or Kajiura did. I'm not trolling, I'm curious mostly because I need things to listen to at work.

Debatable on what may be considered good but these are pretty good sources of what they've done.
