I don't claim to have some proprietary right on them, I would be delighted if someone else made another one this year. Like I said, it's been a choppy year for me, so I can't ramble on about 8 or 9 incredible books again.

You would think with all the 50/50 participants there would be more interest in a thread like that, but I haven't seen any. Then again, I don't browse the front page much anymore with politics dominating.

i don't know if i read any books that were actually published in 2016 this year ..

but my "top books of 2016" would be

1. The Savage Detectives (Roberto Bolano)
2. Augustus (John Williams)
3. The Glory of the Empire (Jean D'Ormesson)
4. Palomar (Italo Calvino)
5. Voyage Along the Horizon (Javier Marias)

my Biggest Stinker Award goes to: Book of Numbers (Joshua Cohen), which I guess was published this year. worst book i've read in a while ...
