If you consider the categories that make the best game:

-Fun
-lasting appeal (addiction)
-Gameplay length
-Content

I think SSBM is the the true winner ( i dont think there are any flaws in the game tbh)

I wouldn't put San Andreas in my top favourite 10 games, but I appreciate that it has a complete all round experience beyond what most if not all games are capable of.
I agree...But this is "games that you'd give a perfect 10" not "your personal top 10".

Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island

2D platformer perfection.. SMW had the best level design in Mario series.

Virtua Fighter 4 Evo

The balance, depth and limitless replay value makes it the best thing SEGA has ever done.

Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening

Showed that Gameboy can do a Zelda that exceeds ALttP in every way.

R-Type Delta

Greatest horizontal shmup ever made.. its a shame R-Type Final was nowhere near as good.

My list is for the past and the future.
Let me make one as well then.

Past:
Ninja Gaiden (Black)

Future:
Halo 3 (it will come as a total surprise and even I will really like it)
Mass Effect (obvious)
Ninja Gaiden 2
Ninja Gaiden 3

RevenantKioku

PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS oh god i am drowning in them
For a game to be "perfect" to me, I'd have to be satisfied if it was the only game I could play for the rest of my years.
There are four.
Maniac Mansion
Dragon Quest III
Chrono Trigger
Symphony of the Night

Baldur's Gate 2
Half Life
Star Craft
War Craft 2 (maybe not now, but i've put more time into this RTS then any other)
Monkey Island 2
Super Mario Brothers 2 (I must be the only who loves this mario game above all others)
New Super Mario Brothers
Space Harrier 2 (Genesis) (Still play it to this day)
Tetris
Symphony of the Night

and I'd say DMC I and RE4 are close.

I would have GoW up there, but I hate how it ended, too abrupt.

Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
Silent Hill
Silent Hill 2
Half-Life 2
Fallout
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Final Fantasy X
Parasite Eve
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 4

While not perfect, but damn close:

Resident Evil 4, Legacy of kain: Soul Reaver, Final Fantasy VII and Tetris.

IMO

relative to their consoles:
Soul Calibur on DC
that is all, i'm not saying it is my favorite game, it isn't. But on a gameplay + technical level (and freakin launch), it is a perfect 10 on 10

MGS3
Half Life 2
God of War
Grim Fandango
Final Fantasy IX
Zone of Enders 2
Soul Caliber 3
SF III: 3rd Strike

worthy mentions:
Twilight Princess
Xenosaga 3
Final Fantasy VI and X
Terranigma
Shadow of the Colossus

- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

- Super Smash Bros. Melee

- Metal Gear Solid

- Pokemon Red or Gold, can't decide which. Gold had SOOO much depth and was really really good - but the original had me hooked the most I think, one of the only games that could get me to play.... what? 5 different versions of the same game ALL the way through. :lol But Gold was badass, a whole game then its like lolz here's a whole new/old world to explore too! I loved how it was all connected to the original game still, you could go see what had changed etc then even have a final showdown with a familiar character.... Both are Legendarily awesome.

- Resident Evil 4 (believe it!)

- Metroid Prime or Super Metroid can't chose, so both?

- Super Mario Bros. 3

Probably forgetting some, damn that turned out to be a lot more than I orignially thought - lol came in here just thinking "Ocarina of Time." :lol

AlphaSnake

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Hmmm...

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy XII
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
Zelda: LTTP
Zelda: OOT
Suer Mario 64
Chrono Cross
Chrono Trigger
Gran Turismo 4
Super Mario Bros. 3
Sonic and Knuckles w/Sonic 2
Unreal Tournament
Rainbow Six Rogue Spear

World of Warcraft is the only game I would consider a 'perfect 10'
How complete and polished the game feels is unlike anything ever made into a game before, so it is beyond the realm of comparison.

Also, UT2004 gets extremely close in terms of multiplay alone

If this is true, then you should be aware that Stargate, the sequel to Defender, is most definitely superior... I'm kinda surprised it's missing from your list...

- Deus Ex
- Earthbound
- Metal Gear Solid

- Thief 2
- Thunder Force 4

alot of these have probably aged quite badly compared to titles available now.

but relative to peer titles around at the time, these have to rate as some of the best titles that gaming has to offer.

I'll give Defender/Stargate a 10 too. Awesome arcade game.

BTW, are Defender 2 & Stargate the same thing?

For me...the only game I haven't had ANY gripes about and consider it my favorite N64 game, and sometimes my favorite game ever to this point...

Papermario.jpg

I know, weird choice. But I honostly had absolutely no problems or negatives with this game. To me, it's perfect in storytelling, battle system, and art style.

It would be easy to say Ocarina of Time, but to be honost that's not even my favorite Zelda anymore. It's a tie between Majora's Mask for its aswesome storytelling and Twilight Princess, for honostly 1-uping Ocarina of Time in every way.

I consider games that aren't flawed in any aspect to be perfect. I don't have to like the game to consider it a perfect 10, but I shouldn't be able to find anything wrong with the game. Games like Resident Evil and MGS series, while they do some things great...the control mechanics need an over-haul, so I don't consider them 10s. A few of my personal picks.

Super Mario 1 & 3 maybe World.
Smash Bros. 1 & 2
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)

I'm sure I got more, but none are jumping out to me right now.

BocoDragon

or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Realize This Assgrab is Delicious
If most of these games came out today, I really doubt you'd give them 10s.

RE4.

It's the only game I felt completely satisfied with and didn't have a "eh.. it needed this or that" opinion afterwards.

10 perfect 10s:

-Street Fighter 2010 (along with Baseball Stars, this game has the highest replay value for me - the controls might seem awkward at first, but the more you play the more you'll enjoy its subtleties. Gameplay is ace, music is top notch and setting/graphics have a style all their own)
-Super Mario Bros. 3
-Super Mario World
-Castlevania III
-Bionic Commando
-Snatcher
-Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
-Mega Man 2
-The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
-Baseball Stars

I really believe anyone that does not name Soul Calibur did not play it when it first came out. It was ****ing mind-blowing.

Other than that:

Super Mario Bros 3
- And this game STILL holds up today, unlike SC. The level design is immaculate and has never been topped.

Tetris / Tetris Attack - Both are eternal puzzle games.

Zelda: OOT - It's many gamers favorite game of all-time for a reason.

Super Metroid
- 2D adventure perfected. (I have not played SOTN though)

Yoshi's Island - A near continual creative explosion.

Katamari 1 & 2 - I ask nothing of this game and it gives more than it ever should.

Its hard to give the Zeldas perfect 10s when they are composed of so many elements. But among the "compound gameplay" games Zelda is easy at the top.

Yes. Stargate is also known as Defender 2... and is superior to Defender.

Stargate seems to be pretty much lost to history 'cause of some craptastic naming convention due to legal sh*t...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_(video_game)

Also it's control scheme needs to be a 2-way vert 'stick and 6 buttons with 'thrust' and 'reverse' mapped to buttons to remain true to the arcade gameplay. The 'dumbed' down control that maps these buttons to an 8-way control, changes the gameplay mechanics significantly...
