Some nice choices in this thread. Can't argue with Journey or Rayman Legends. I'm also very inclined to throw in Dragon's Crown. The renaissance-style background vistas really push it over the edge imo

For an oldie, I always found Heart of Darkness on PS1 to be a very beautiful game in motion:

I would die for a widescreen, HD remake of that using today's flattened 2.5D techniques ala Rayman Legends, and all new FMV scenes/integration.

Symphony of the Night has my heart, as well, despite being not particularly astounding visually. The word beautiful is the first word I would apply to it.

Not just that, but easily the best game I have ever played. The freedom that you feel in this game is incredible.

I have to repost this.

I'm also going to purposefully piss of Jim Sterling and post Gears of War pictures because I honestly think this game had its moments.

All great responses so far. For me it'll probably always be Shadow.

I'll probably keep coming back to this world forever.

Yeah, that's it for me. It's like walking into a work of art. Meticulously detailed landscapes and vistas liter the entire game and like 60% of that is off the beaten path. It just left me in awe in a two fold sort of way.

Trine 2, Wind Waker, Any Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3

Uncharted 2-3, Pikmin 3, Mirror's Edge, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Portal 2

Personal favorite is Metroid Prime 3, that game breaths in atmosphere.

Been playing Trine 2 on Wii U and it is simply bursting with detail and color.

Wow this thread has made me want to try SoTC, and so many good looking Wii games like Xenoblade, Galaxy, Kirby's Yarn, Muramasa and Okami.

Marvel

could never
TLOU.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Uncharted 2 and 3.

Bioshock 1 and Infinite.

God of War 3 and Ascension

Trine 2.

Rayman Legends.

Journey.

Mas Effect 2.

Metro Last Light should be up there. It may not be colorful, but the sheer detail, desolation and effects make it absolutely mesmerizing.

The collosi are its inhabitants, the sheer grandeur of riding Agro through this majestic land is mesmerizing. Still my top most beautifull game.

Journey. I started and finished the game yesterday. The art direction is amazing, the sand is beautiful, and draw distance is goddamn impressive, not to mention the sand-sliding is the funnest thing I've ever done in a game.

actually, a tie between Journey and Dark Souls. DS looks fucking ridiculous when it's downsampled.

edit: I forgot Mirror's Edge. :(

After skimming this thread and seeing the screenshots, these games really stood out to me:

Okami
El Shaddai
Windwaker
Rayman Legends
Muramasa
Dragons Crown
Xenoblade
Pop 2008
Machinarium

I totally don't see what's so amazing about that Journey pic
