Where's the hype for Xenoblade Chronicles X?

My hype kinda went down after hearing the OST and hearing the Japanese release impressions, but shit I can't say it didn't soar up again when I actually played the game myself.

The changes to the healing system and the fact that all characters have a ranged/melee weapon they automatically switch inbetween depending on distance kinda were odd at first, but I can genuinely say the battles are a lot of fun once you get used to the changes and I'm definitely excited about pouring some time into this game.

After Fallout 4 it's the game I am definitely the most hyped for.

Do you know math?

To be fair, it was January 2013, so almost three years ago. It's still an odd reason to no longer be excited for a game though. Or rather, going from "hyped as fuck" to "i dont give a shit". Plenty of people are still looking forward to Final Fantasy XV, Persona 5, The Last Guardian, Kingdom Hearts III, and many other games that were announced a loooooong time ago. If Zelda isn't out for another two years, I'll still be dying to play it on release day.

just because it's 2.9 doesn't make it 3

and "3" years to me is the best reveal then release time
To be fair, it was announced in January 2013; it's quite close.

poster should have had almost in there

They hyped the japanese release so much. I was really feeling it then. I'm still excited though, just a bit of a shame Nintendo isn't doing the same thing for the Western release. Though I'm sure the Nintendo Direct hiatus is part of the problem for that. ):

I'm very much looking forward to it. For me it's all about Fallout in November, and Xenoblade X in December.

It may not live up to the previous game in many ways, but I know based on what i've seen that I'll still find a ton to like about it. Also, I want to support Nintendo in developing more RPGs at their studios, so any game similar to this from them is pretty much a guaranteed buy from me.

Yeah, I've kind of stopped caring. Hearing about some of the common complaints with the Japanese version, and knowing my play habits, I can almost guarantee I won't get too far in this game.

It was 4 years. No one cared about it before FC released as no one knew a thing about it. Its also a direct sequel or really, the second half of the same game and it ended on a cliff hanger. There was also a barrage of sequels and other Falcom games to keep the series in peoples minds. Also, the import impressions were great.

The general import impression for this game was fantastic. It just won best rpg at the Paris Game Show. There should be more hype than this.

I was hyped when I saw that trailer with the awesome music in it years ago...

It just took way too long to get here. Can't be hyped for so long. Nintendo also seems to be really quiet about it. Where is the big marketing push? The game is 4 weeks away!

I am still getting it though.

I'm afraid Fe x SMT will share this fate. Let's hope for a speedy western release.

What got me rehyped was knowing we would get the dlc for free. The 4 dlc characters+ the quests for those characters+more doll varieties.

The stupid excessive fanservice + the impressions I read in the import thread killed 90% of the interest I had in the game. Shame, because Xenoblade was great.

It's been too damn long. I can't sustain hype for 2 and a half years.

But I will buy it the first week and probably play it for a hundred hours.

This for me.
They shoud've just avoided to dub it to save time so they could release it earlier and give a dlc when the dub would be ready cause really it took a bit too long.

My hype died when I heard this game basically has no story.
I don't know where just heard that FAKE infos but there is a story.
The main problem of the people who played that game is that they expected a Witcher 3 with choice and consequences.

Why ?
Simply because back then, one year ago, the video game industry in the west was flooded with bland open world games (ex: Assassin Creed).
While in the contrary big open world games isn't common in Japan.

After playng Xenoblade i have zero hype for X

This is me. The battle system is so fucking boring for some reason. And the characters and locations are kind of cool, but not enough to keep going.

I hope XCX is better and more focused, because damnit, I just couldn't get into it.

Well, that is weird considering some of the responses in this thread. It might just be about expectations being unrealistically high coming off Xenoblade Chronicles.

The difference is this game is actually good lol

another difference is that I haven't played one of them =3

Once I put a game inside the console, I erase all hype.

So that I will never be disappointed on high expectations.

Pretty sure XCX's combat is largely based on XC, so if you found the XC combat to be terrible, you probably aren't going to enjoy XCX's much. And because XCX features blank state, create your own protagonist, I think the character progression might be weaker than the predecessor, but don't quote me on that.

At least XCX has the awesome mecha which further compliments the world exploration, which was the original's strongest point anyway. Plus the world level design seemed to be amazing.

The game is different. People do not adjust to different well. Most Japanese reviews I read said this might be one of the best JRPGs ever. I am not willing to go that far.

Somewhere between the game having a different structure to its immediate precursor, and the creepy child porn angle, i wrote this off completely.

Also I remember watching people play the JP version and having a bad reaction to how 'anime' the whole thing was. Somehow more than the Wii game? I dunno. Just not for me.

The hyperbole is strong in here. No story? There is a full fledged story, maybe not as good as Xenoblade, but there is one. Which is complemented by the Kizuna quests.

Also the world in this is in no way worse than in Xenoblade. It's different, yes. But it's huge, it's multi-layered and diverse. I would say that while some locations in Xenoblade are better, by the look of it the overall world of X is better and more cohesive.

I mean yeah, that seems to be where it started, I just find it really weird how one bad preview (From a guy who didn't like the well received first game either) somehow meant that it was poorly received in general. Because it really, really wasn't. Most Japanese players really enjoyed the game based on surveys I've seen

Don't worry. People will pay attention to NA reviews, Xenoblade built a lot of good will last gen.

When I first watch the trailer it was the first time I thought "wow so this is next-gen" game looked fantastic. Sadly it's just been so long of a wait that I don't really care anymore. I'll still be getting my on launch day though but my hype is no longer there.

The general consensus on the Japanese reviews on that website is that the plot is very thin and what's there isn't very good. The "story" is in the "bad" section of nearly every review for the first few pages, at least.

I almost lost my goddamn mind when I saw the first trailer back in January 2013, but the impressions aren't great and I can never finish a true open world game with a sparse story. Also, it took too long.

Will still play it eventually. Probably when Zelda Wii U hit, then I'll get the console and work through its backlog.

Which as has been said multiple times on gaf is a death sentence for any serious take up of a game.

Of course we expect ' a witcher 3' where sidequests and stuff have consequences. It's 2015. The genre has moved forward since the original game.

The original xenoblade was a game that pushed the genre forward a fair amount, whereas initial responses to the Japanese game suggest that's not the case this time.

Where is this "impressions are not not great" thing coming from? Reading the opinions of importers on twitter, and Japanese reviews indicate a stunning game.

Are people just upset this is not EXACTLY like the first game?

There are two very vocal GAF posters about their impressions. Plus 1 preview form a guy who didn't like the original Xenoblade either. Negative impressions are going viral much easier than the positive ones.

So basically an overreaction? I wish we got the details surrounding the Paris Gameshow win. Like did someone have to play the game, or was it on looks or something.

I thought people said Evolve is a good game. But the whole way they treated micro transactions, dlc, and exclusive dlc was gross and turned people off.

A lot of it was also blowback from how much games media was trying to shove the game down our throats, even when it was obvious that there were going to be long term issues with the game that were readily apparent even without playing it. The alpha and the beta confirmed those fears, and it never got back on track. The DLC shenanigans were the railroad spikes in the coffin, so to speak.

Some reviewers already have the game on their hands now. We will get more reviews. That will seal the perception one way or another.

The US import reviews have been largely positive. Like the one I posted, but I can see why Kotaku was the major factor here. People love shock value.

If a guy did not like the first game, he is REALLY not going to like this one.

I want to be hyped for the game, but it lacks several things that I loved about Xenoblade: plot, characters, ACE+ music. The world doesn't seem as interesting because it's too open and that makes it feel smaller even if it's bigger and gives less structure to the plot. I don't like that the majority of the game is essentially mission-based sidequests. That's a problem with open world games. I'd rather advance the plot by advancing through the world, but when you can go anywhere any time you can't do that.
