Where's the hype for Xenoblade Chronicles X?

A lot of it was also blowback from how much games media was trying to shove the game down our throats, even when it was obvious that there were going to be long term issues with the game that were readily apparent even without playing it. The alpha and the beta confirmed those fears, and it never got back on track. The DLC shenanigans were the railroad spikes in the coffin, so to speak.
Makes sense, I remember when we couldn't go a day without it somehow being on the first page here.

Where is this "impressions are not not great" thing coming from? Reading the opinions of importers on twitter, and Japanese reviews indicate a stunning game.

Are people just upset this is not EXACTLY like the first game?

This review starts by saying the story is incomplete and the main character is excluded from it. Internal strife within your party is resolved in a way that feels arbitrary or unresolved. There are enemy organizations that come and attack your groups, but the game ends without their motives being known. It's "nothing." There's nothing to it.

【薄いストーリー】
キャラも薄ければストーリーも薄い。
土台になる話は面白そうなのに、無機質な仲間とプレイヤーが、ライフポイント探して淡々と進んでいくだけです。

The Thin/Shallow Story

From the characters to the story, it's shallow. The foundations for the story seem interesting, but it just ends up being a story about your "robotic" characters searching for "life points."

This review says he or she agrees with the sense that the story is unfinished that it will have to be followed up by sequels or DLC, neither of which have been announced.

ボリュームが少ないです。膨大なサブクエスト作るくらいならこっちを増やして欲しかった。

There's not much of it. I might be misunderstanding the second thing he/she says, so I'll leave it untranslated.

The main scenario is shallow/thin. Where is the hearty story of its predecessor?

And it just goes on and on ...

My hype being deflated from the Japanese reception is probably for the best. Xenoblade is a top two jRPG all time for me, so even if they kept true to a more story oriented jRPG, it'd be tough to live up to the previous title. I do really love co-op and the look of the new game, so I have hope it'll be a fun experience, but I don't expect it to approach the game that came before it.

The GAF thread where they imported said it was just OK. There were a lot of issues so don't expect greatness.

my hype will return once the game goes up for pre-load because i will have to stare at the icon everyday till i can play the game >.<

I wonder if Xenoblade's reputation is really standing the test of time. I never understood the fuss personally: big and pretty gameworld but with little real interaction, combat system that promises to marry the fluidity of realtime with the strategy of turn-based, but ends up just playing itself out, interesting setting letdown by generic characters and story. The reaction to the (admittedly inferior) N3DS port suggested that enthusiasm for the game had cooled. And I think X is just looking like more of the same.

Xenoblade, on release, was probably the last time I sunk 100 hours into a game in the span of less than a month. I can't agree with any of those assessments, other than that the N3DS port isn't worth it.

XBX's biggest hurdle in my mind is that it seems to be the first Xeno* game to come out that isn't focused on a lengthy, complex narrative, which has always been a huge part of the appeal of the various unrelated Xeno games.

My hype died when I heard this game basically has no story.

Yeah pretty much this for me.
Only got half way through the first game. ANd although enjoyable, it was too same-ey, and this seems to be more of that. It looks and sounds really good (environements and music), but feel that if I cant even finish the first, it would be a mistake getting this

I wonder if these impressions cover also the Kizuna sidequests which contain good part of the story according to the players that went through them.

Also DLC is included for free in the Western release.

Pretty hyped, the only thing I worry about is how good the story is since the game seems to be much more open, and how balanced are the skells considering if the fuel ressource to use them is too easy to find there's no point in running around on foot once you get them and if it's too rare, getting in your mech falls under the too good to use club.

And I assume there's dungeon or exploration that requires either a mech or ground team only if it's in a cavern or something.

Oh and the fact that the main character doesn't speak is disappointing but despite all of that, I cant wait to play.

I'm excited but not as excited as I would have been if it came out say...... 6 months ago. It's still one of the few games I have actually preordered.

Sorry for the late reply here.^_^

That is the link. The network info started from 21:18 to the end.

The online part for this game actually is really well developed if u ask me here.
First, they had the same system as Dragon's Dogma where if ur Wii U is connected online, u will be able to find other players avatar walking around the field or city and u can recruit them to join ur party.^_^

The second one is "Squad" system. It link u and other 31 players into 32 players team which will be given quest which u guys can do together. U can also chat with all 32 players there on helping each other to finish the quest there. So the "Blade Report"/ quest can be done together.^_^
The squad system will also allow u to trade items/equipment with other squad members through some trading screen which will show up after beat a battle. So u can immediately trade ur useless item for those who needed those item.

There will also be Squad mission which will be given for the squad for a certain time to complete where all the member can to do the mission to gain some extra loot/experience and money.

All these three Squad feature is done passively as everyone is connected but not going to be seen in ur game. Where u can go and do everything u like without worrying of meeting any of them.

Finally is "Squad Quest" this one is more like Monster Hunter as u are going to party up with 3 other player for 4 member party to finish the more difficult quest for example if u finish all this quest, u are going to be able to fight so called "World Enemy" which is the most powerful boss in the game all with 3 friends.^_^

There is also system called Union Gram where u are going to be able to choose 8 union where each had their own specialties and from there, u are going to be able to compete with other union by improving its point to see which Union is the best here.^_^ And of course the more u contributed, the higher ur rank in that Union too which will be displayed for the worldwide player to see.^_^

Hope this is helpful enough for u there. Sorry that i remember wrongly here as the video is only on Japanese there.

Hype died after 8 months of waiting for a localization.

It's what happens in a globalized world.

Kukuku.^_^ I wonder if ur hyped for Yokai have died too there Sammy?^_^

I really don't know how a RPG fan can't be excited by something like this game. It is so strange that reading a negative opinion that criticizes aspects that were criticized in XB too can completely twist how you feel about a game... But hey, I guess everyone can do what he wants.

Xenoblade was my game of the generation last gen, so I'm excited, but... I can't say I'm as hyped as I was when the game was first announced and shown off. There's just something about the game that doesn't give me that same feeling as the first Xenoblade. I'm not going into X thinking it'll be as good as the first one because I can't imagine it'll overtake it which is a little sad, but I'm sure I'll still enjoy it.
I feel exactly the same way.

Something about this doesn't feel as good as Xenoblade did, or I don't get that same excited over the moon feeling I had.

I'll still buy it tho

Some people are just more gullible than others.

Once I heard the story was mediocre I was entirely turned off. The gameplay isn't appealing to me to begin with so I'll definitely be skipping it.

Bembo said the game was crap and apparently reviews from nwr, dualshockers, siliconera and a big japanese website (9, 9.5 and extremely positive impressions) this time don't count, so many people on GAF decided the game wasn't worth the attention anymore. Waiting to try it to see if they liked it or not seems off the table but hey, their call i guess.

Aside from those hype is pretty high, although the decision to delay the european and american launch to december was dumb as fuck and turned off many other people.

So turned off you didn't even read that the story is expanded through subquests and Kizuna quests, and that when you factor them too it's apparently even better than XB's.

I was super hyped for this game and then Nintendo said "Info about NX coming next year".
Now I'm waiting before I throw down 300 on a Wii U.

I really wouldn't count on Xenoblade X being ported to NX. People said the same thing about Xenoblade being ported to WiiU.
It would take forever to do and be very costly.

There's a nice article that about a famitsu poll that seemed generally favorable too.

Kinda wish I had the mag myself for more of the questions covered.

That sounds really good. I mean if most people played 100+hours and also completed the game it can't be bad.
I guess the worst part would be the Multiplayer, but I don't really care about that in an RPG. I will try it out anyways.

I'm sorry but if I need to do subquests to get a hint of a decent story in a 70 hour+ video game I'd rather watch a movie.

I'm choosing this over the new Tales and Fallout games (only have time for one giant game like this)...

Hope I chose wisely. 😳

So you rather prefer to be forced or what?

I would assume he'd prefer the same formula every previous Xeno* game has used, where narrative and characters are linear, and a central focus of the game. That doesn't appear to be the case here, and it's totally understandable that it would turn off people who loved previous games from this developer.

The reviews seem to imply they are factoring in those elements.

I think they mean a cont. Of the story through dlc.

Got so close to finishing the first one, the story was fantastic, sad to hear the story in this one is much more sparse, that's what kept my attention the first time around.

I can't imagine that this game being out for MONTHS in Japan has done it any favors for the other regions.

Should've been delayed for worldwide release.

I'm probably in the minority but I'm actually glad theres less emphasis on a huge complex story. I feel the same way with MGSV which I'm finally playing through now. I love good stories as much as the next guy but lately I just want to literally play games for the gameplay. I guess it's just a phase I'm in these days.

I don't really like to talk to lawyers, you know?

Anyhow, it's one thing to say you want a linear narrative and another thing to say that you don't want to do optional quests to find out more. Like "fuck options!", put that quest in the narrative, make it mandatory or else!

There's apparently not much to find out.

Many MGS games are cutscenes with occasionally involved gameplay sequements. The story in the first Xenoblade was good presented and only a part of the experience. Xeno X is more mature in its storytelling anf characterizations. The whole game consist of many small stories and its not so much focused on its main story as the first game.

Guys if the main story is so shit that digging through the optional sidequests is almost mandatory, guess what? The main story is shit.

This is starting to smell like MGSV with the cassette tapes.

The GAF thread where they imported said it was just OK. There were a lot of issues so don't expect greatness.

This is where I lost my hype. Story is too important for me to spend 40-100 hours in an RPG with no narrative pay off. Couple it with no wii u price drop and now I have no qualms about skipping xenoblade x all together

Options are fine if they are in addition to a main story that actually makes an effort to be somewhat interesting. Who wants to sit through a shitty 4-5 hour movie for 10 minutes of decent development after the credits have rolled? No one, or at least not me.

Import reviews say the story is pretty good.

I've talked to a a number of importers and all of them have said the story was shallow and the characters were nonexistant. Even on GAF, the importers were praising the world much more than the characters or story.
