Where's the hype for Xenoblade Chronicles X?

I've heard worse motivations in my animu
Maybe he's angry about who decides to let who lives and who dies, maybe he lost someone close to him because of that

Spoiler warning:
This is correct. It was his family.

Oooh noooo.

Yes, I know.

Unfortunately, if Monolith was trying to make me feel sorry, it didn't work.

I've got a certain Bullshit Threshold where I stop caring for someone's feelings.

With Us or Against Us.

Call me a sociopath all you want, but me and sympathy for anyone who thinks they can get in my way is Nil.

Hey wait, weren't you that guy bashing them getting rid of nonsensical Engrish?

Good God this is stupid.

You can change the words to an acronym without removing the philosophy and meaning it is referencing.

No, it was not the loss of Engrish, it was their failure to retain the references to things like the singularity and jungian philosophy/psychology like the collective unconcious.

As hyped as I've always been. It was pretty difficult to get the CE so at least some people are still hyped for it.

I watched a whole lot of twitch ENG streamers who bought the game in Japan and I know I have nothing to worry about concerning the game. My biggest interest is in how the online features are done and if that will keep me playing the game for a much longer period of time.

As for reviews I haven't seen really many "Mixed" reviews from actual Japanese review sites so I'm curious on that. Famitsu gave it a 9,9,8,8 and the 8 reviewers complained about too many cutscenes and Dengeki called it a "Masterpiece". The only one I saw that was bad was Kotaku and I don't even know if it was a real review. They complained about boring combat but as someone who really enjoyed the first game's combat I already know I'm gonna be of a completely different opinion.

A bit OT but pretty much switch Monolith with Naughty Dog and The Last of Us. Felt nothing for that 'legendary emotional intro' some on gaf crows about.

Different strokes for different folks I guess...Or 'feels' rather than 'strokes' but that doesn't rhyme.

How did you react to Dickson in the first Xenoblade because it's similar to some degree. Motivations and outcomes are different but roles are very similar.

I'm looking forward to it and will be picking it up on release day but my hype has certainly died down. A large part of that has to do with my apathy towards the Wii U platform as a whole.

Well, for one, Dickson had motivations that had logic to them and didn't come across as a whingy little crybaby - In addition to actually knowing what he was doing. He was deliberate, he was playing everyone the whole time, and he'd done it plenty of times before.

I don't know, but, I've always found myself infinitely more intrigued and capable of feeling sympathy for
traitors who were snakes the whole time
as opposed to
easily manipulable Dummkopfen who turncoat over THE REVELATIONS!!!

I definitely want to get it at some point but I wouldn't even have a chance to play it until late December so I might as well just save my money and hear impressions from some people I trust

In what other RPG can you explore the world in a giant fucking mech? Can't wait to do that. Mira is a fascinating world and looks beautiful to boot. That said, i'm a bit sceptical.

In my opinion, Xenoblade add 2 major flaws, the characters and the side quests. For the exception of Reyn and Riki, i though the cast was pretty boring and forgettable. As for the side quest, i think we can all agreed that that were nothing more then filler content. They pretty much all consisted of the generic mmo style kill/fetch quest.

If these flaws are still in X i'm gonna be kind of disappointed.

I repressed my hype because earlier in the year the wait was killing me.

Trust, as soon as late November/ Early December rolls around, I'm gonna be hyped to the moon and back.

Basically the only three games I plan on buying for the rest of the year are Fallout 4, Xenoblade Chronicles X and maybe Star Wars Battlefront

Apparently the sdequests are amplified, though I haven't played the game, so I could be off base.

Game was met with basically meh reviews. Gameplay seems to be the same boring MMO-like from XBC, but with an even more uninteresting storyline and no really cool characters since MC is customizable and the other two are generic anime girls.

So basically it's a game being carried completely by the mecha, which I hope is good since I do have it preordered.

I am almost certain that this game causes you physical pain in its existence, given this and the previous thread and the echoes from months ago. Also:

But what negative responses to the Japanese launch are you referring to? Please don't say "that one guy from Kotaku". In general it was very well received by Japanese news sites, message boards and Japanese gamers.

It's sales were not as good as the first game (most likely due to the install base and the fact that there are few RPGs on the WiiU causing many RPG gamers to skip the system)

But I don't follow this title extensively so if you can please link me to the negative impressions. I haven't come across them. I live in Japan and the press at the time was good and word of mouth was also good.

I think I read it has more of everything when it comes to the side quests, especially since they come in more categories and one of those categories helps flesh out the entire world and its native species, along with the NLA survivors. I'm actually more jazzed about filling in the gaps than I am with a central storyline, since I find the whole world so damn inviting and fascinating. Anime tropes can wait, as far as I'm concerned.

who is bebpo?

One of the more prominent importers here on GAF. He was a major evangelical for the first game, among other things he's helped spread awareness for in the past (Killer7 being a big one from long, long ago).

If that was the case why would I have the game preordered at Best Buy? Please, lol.

Well, that actually sounds pretty cool.

I am really iffy about the combat. I really like Monster Hunter style combat, but this system seems really bizarre to me and I've never quite understood it.

That single negative import review made people think it was the consensus and thus the hype died.
Personally, I have the LE pre-ordered.

Well, that actually sounds pretty cool.

There are more of the usual MMO filler quests to go along with them, but considering how rare any of the quests to flesh the world out were in the first game (pretty much limited to the skill tree quests), making them a priority for this game sounds A-OK with me.

I think it won best RPG in Paris Games Week. I just became a member on Neogaf so Idk whether or not I should post the link to the article..

I haven't played the first game (don't have the time right now nor did I when it came out + I've pretty much spoiled the game for myself over the years lol) but I'm thinking about getting this so I'm kind of hype but not really because I'm not super into RPGs. I feel like, regardless, I could have a good time with this but yeah that's where I, personally, stand right now.

I was way more hyped earlier in the year, I was really hoping for an August release as that would have been when I 100% would have bought it purely out of hype. But it's gone down since then, for sure. Mostly because of how quiet Nintendo has been about it. But they've been quiet about everything since July so... yeah.

Well the less hyped people are the more pleasantly surprised they will be when they play it :)
It isn't without problems, but I think the game is still very fun.

The combat is nothing like Monster Hunter. MH is action oriented while Xeno has an auto combat system with skill cooldowns and stuff similar to most mmo's.

NoA royally fucked up and should have the game out by September.

I think NOA fucked up only in the sense that NCL really should have involved them much earlier on in the development process. It's my sincere hope that going forward, Nintendo is going to try for closer to simultaneous releases beyond the usual titles and Pokemon, since the lead times for Fire Emblem and this game are pretty nuts, even if you allow for the fact that there's a lot of work to be done. Treehouse had to bring in 8-4 to help get it out when it is releasing.

I'm actually curious how many translators are on the project. Feels like they gotta get this out soon and it being a gigantic game with so much dialogue I wonder if there are a lot more working on it than what you'd usually find on a typical project.

Xeno stories are heavily based on the works of famous philosophers mixed with takes on interpretations of similar subjects in religion. Knowledge of these subjects drastically changes the interpretation of what actually took place in the game.

Xenogears was mainly Frueds works and gnosticism

Xenosagas was a fairly weak, but overt work based on Friedrich Nietzsche's will to power.

Xenoblade Was based off of Gottfreid Leibniz's'The Monadology', Sacred mathematics, Pythogorean religion, and functional programming.

Knowing the monado is based off of monads completely brings to light what is actually going on in xenoblade, which is far more than 'a boy and a magical sword'.

Had localization say, renamed the monado 'light sabbre', and removed all the other aspects of the philosophy the game was originally based on, that entire aspect of the game would be destroyed and parts in game relating to it would be nonsensical.

The localization has already completely removed heavy references to jungian works, to make things 'sound cooler', and have already completely removed the rooted concept of the collective unconcious from at least the beginning of the game.

I am not confident in trusting them to notice what they have done and attempt to rectify it.

i get that you're concerned about the localization preserving the philosophical underpinnings of the original. I'm right there with you, even if a lot of that stuff flies right over my head. i'll also agree that the localized BLADE acronym captures little of the original's intent... but sweet jesus, as far as i can tell, this is the only philosophical related change we can pin down so far. How does this acronym change equate to the localization team "completely [removing] the rooted concept of the collective unconcious from at least the beginning of the game." in your mind? That's a pretty slippery slope from where I'm sitting.

It's probably the only Wii U game left that I'm really looking forward to. I think I've turned on my Wii U once in the past 4-5 months.

I'm still really stoked for it. Loved the original Xenoblade, so I'm looking forward to more running-around-in-fields-with-awe action. It's actually kind of surprising there isn't more hype around the title (even among Nintendo fans). The original game was an interesting gaming news story with the Operation Rainfall stuff and was released to a lot of critical acclaim. Usually when the sequel comes along, the hype is often a lot bigger than for the first one.

I think a little of it has been general Wii U malaise, but I get the vibe that Nintendo doesn't really know what to do with the game. Wii U isn't a particularly friendly console for fans of RPGs, so maybe it's just a problem drawing in the right audience for it.

Hopefully it at least meets Nintendo's expectations, even if it's not a hit or anything. Would like to see them stick with the series and not get discouraged.
