• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Which Racing game are you getting this year Gaf?

DRIVECLUB & PCars definitely, most likely The Crew as I'm getting a solid 'This is what I imagined the old game 'Great American Cross Country Road Race' and what that NFS game with Christina Hendricks should have been vibe about it.

Project cars for the pc, 144hz monitor, passive ips 3d monitor, and Oculus dk2 are waiting for this along with fanatec wheel

Project CARS (PC). I don't care much for arcade racers, so I'm not too excited about the others.
Same.

I mean, I might be able to enjoy a *very* arcade type racer like Mario Kart, but games like DriveClub or PGR or whatever? I just get no satisfaction playing them whatsoever. Cars are just way too easy to drive and I think its hilarious to throw a corner into a corner at high speeds after having hardly hit the brakes at all and then being able to completely effortlessly drive out of the corner with no fuss or skill necessary. It completely ruins any potential thrill and reward of driving what are supposed to be powerful and demanding cars.

Horizon 2 is already preordered (although I'm debating cancelling that and grabbing the digital preorder so I won't have to wait for the post on day one...).

Driveclub is a strong maybe, but I'll check out the PS+ edition before putting any money down on it.

The Crew I'm kinda iffy on. The overall concept and world design look amazing, but the handling looks like something I probably wouldn't particularly enjoy as far I can tell from watching videos. Definitely not buying at full price unless I can get some hands-on time first to make sure.

No particular interest in Project Cars. I've got Forza 5 to satisfy any serious-business racing cravings I might have.

Forza H 2 will be make me get an XBONE. It looks great graphically and the physics will be top no doubt about it.

I really love open world games and even with its not so good physics, TDU2 was probably one of my best/most fun games last gen. This type of genre needs more love ( glad the crew is coming which takes it a step further in terms of open world, but seems to have shitty car physics sadly, this made me so gutted)

Driveclub: the graphics, environments and just everything about it gets me excited. I will try the free version to see the replay value, it being race track only makes me kinda sad ( would take a graphics downgrade for more open ended race tracks. I don't want it to be open world but would have LOVED it if it was in the same style of something like the gumball races)

Pcars, after GT5 I kinda fell out of sim racers. Will keep an eye on it though.

Horizon on day one.

Will get the PS+ trial version of DriveClub but will wait till prices start to drop before I buy the physical version, noway that I'm going for the PS+ upgrade deal.

The Crew is something that I'll watch but probably won't buy day one. The MCC is going to consume all my time in the beginning of November. I feel that The Crew is doomed for mediocre sales for the reasons stated by the OP. I'll still probably buy The Crew this year though. Edit: I might just sink in and buy it day one.

Project Cars? Maybe one day I'll buy this one PC, but I most likely not buy this title this year.

Driveclub has to prove itself to me for a purchase, but I will definitely try the PS+ trial. FH2 is Day one for me definitely. I haven't seen anything about project cars that has me interested yet, the PS4 gameplay from gamescom looks OK though.

Forza Horizon 2. Why? For myself, the off-road racing...probably full-on rally, like FH1...and the superb open world design of the first being refined make it pretty much the safest racing pickup for my tastes. Helps to have what looks already to be a great car lineup consisting of classics in addition to the new supercar stuff and, of course, Horizon 2's soundtrack is sure to match the best ever in a racer, IMHO, and that was the first Horizon. Maybe Drive Club, depending on the PS+ demo version, but all of the videos, besides looking great, come across as terribly limited in handling and racing possibilities. So far, it's just down to one racer this year, IMO.

Forza Horizon 2 on the 360 assuming I can get it for less than $40 on Black Friday.

Drive Club doesn't count since it's free on my PS4.

Out of those choices, most interested in Forza Horizon 2, but it's also the one I'm least likely to buy because there's no wheel support on Xbox One (I mean sure it supports couple of overpriced new wheels but that's not customer friendly option).

Project Cars has the biggest potential but the driving model still doesn't feel right, I'm not sure if they are going to fix it before launch. Driveclub is probably a lost cause, but I'll still try the PS+ demo. The Crew is definitely on my buy list mainly because of the open world. Also it's very likely 60fps on PC considering the beta runs at 60 with a simple config file change. Oh and it supports wheels people actually have, unlike FH2.

Assetto Corsa should have a release date of 2014 too but we'll see what happens with that game. They have quite a few issues to solve still. Also waiting for rFactor 2 release date, though some people probably consider the current version released. And then there's Next Car Game with a delayed release date. Probably my most anticipated racing game, but will it release in 2014?

Forza and the crew if its any good. My friends and I spent hours in test drive unlimited 2 and that game was hot garbage. Open world racers are awesome.

Just Driveclub.
I've become very picky with my driving games after too many disappointments on which I wasted money and didn't get much enjoyment out of. Need for Speed comes to mind.

Definitely driveclub and probably FH2. PCars sounds great but I want to hear more impressions of the finished game first. That would be on PC probably as no logitech wheel support on PS4/XB1. So that would be one game on each platform.

I'm not interested in The Crew at all. Just doesn't tickle my fancy

I'm still so torn, since I haven't bought a wheel/pedals for either PS4 or XB1 yet. I'll be picking up both FH2 and Drive Club when released, and I have a feeling one of those will help me gravitate towards one system or another.

Currently leaning XB1 wheel more (Due to Forza + leaderboards), because I don't want to buy 3 wheel & pedal sets like I did back for 360 / PS3 / PC.

Bah.

Only Driveclub, if even that. Depends on how the PS+ version feels. Goddam I miss the arcade racers of past generations.

I already have Assetto Corsa, but Project CARS is my one true love.

I've already committed to never playing a racing sim on a regular monitor again. Project CARS in VR will affirm my decision.

THIS IS A FUCKING VIDEO GAME

Yeah.. Seems like a good VR implementation as well. I've been playing Live for Speed with my DK2 for the last couple of weeks (sadly I did not get into the PCars kickstarter..), and honestly with VR it's no longer a "racing game" to me.., it's more like an actual "racing experience". What is going on in the VR scene these days is just amazing, people are going to be amazed when they understand this is actually happening, and it actually works. Yup, there's no way back to conventional displays now for me either, it's just impossible.

So I've bought Asetto Corsa already, waiting for the release, and I'm looking forward to PCars in VR very much, so I'll definitely buy that as well.

DriveClub most definitely.

I absolutely love the look of that game, i need a absolutely gorgeous racing game like that in my life again.

Forza Horizon 2. Why? For myself, the off-road racing...probably full-on rally, like FH1...and the superb open world design of the first being refined make it pretty much the safest racing pickup for my tastes. Helps to have what looks already to be a great car lineup consisting of classics in addition to the new supercar stuff and, of course,...

Pretty much this.

Probably [expensive] DLC tho

I'm not a huge racing fan, but I wouldn't mind picking up a game in the genre this year.

Project Cars interests me due to 60fps, but I don't know shit about it. Is it sim or arcade or what?
