I tought Leyton is also contract work, Izumora Eleven (Soccer RPG) is the only game wich is all them, isn't it?
It's the only game of theirs, wich I don't know anything about, besides that it have gotten an Anime-show.. :-/
No, Layton is created and owned entirely by Level-5.

I don't know why everyone's being so hard on the graphics, they look pretty good. The colors and the overall art style look a lot better then before.

Because it's not on their console of choice?

The real truth of this generation is that game genres such as RPGs are going to be split between systems more than they were last generation, so get used to it.

The japs seem to have a soft spot for frogs and toads in clothes. I just rewatched "Spirited away", fantastic movie by the way. If it inspired some of the artwork I am all for this game.

they love it ;D all that's left now is the giant enemy crab. [which if i remember there is already one :lol]

but there is a frog in Jeanne D'Arc as well. and then Rogue Galaxy had the frog to synthesize weapons.

was there one in Layton or inazuma eleven?

it looks very nice in general...but check the background in the snowy environment, the cliffy environment, and the first one...very simple geometry, they dont look that great. The lighting is very impressive however and the city and scifi organic environments also look much nicer.

Honestly, the games have different visual styles though, I think this game looks very consistant in motion

Naysayers or defenders?
My guess would be defenders, there's probably a reason the game wasn't shown AT ALL this year while shit that won't be out till 09 was shown left and right at every conference.

It'll be shown at TGS...

It's not uncommon. There are many other games that have gone on media black out for a long period of time only to be unveiled with a release date and new media.

Could it be that they actually wanted to spend time working on the game rather than getting trailers and demos and what not ready for trade shows?

It's being shown @ one conferance all year long that is just a couple months before its release, nothing else has been shown all year while 09 titles were shown off @ every conferance, Sonys style is more to shove things down your throat for years before the game actually comes out(ala KZ2) not hide the game until a couple months before it releases, seems pretty obvious to me that they have little to no confidence in the game which is scary since they showed more confidence then this in Heavenly Sword.

Not always true. There's been a lot this year even that was announced and then released just a few months after.

Like what from Sonys big games? Resistance 2 was shown in like January, LBP has been shown for years, MGS4 has been shown for years, KZ2 has been shown since 05 and it doesn't launch till 09. All Sonys BIG games are shown Far far in advance.

Has Sony ever shoved an Japanese RPG that didn't have "Final Fantasy" in the name down our throats?

Serious question, not getting smart or anything. >_>

WKC was shown at the TGS 06, TGS 07 and it will be shown at the TGS 08

SCEI is not like the rest of SCE. Siren was announced this year alongside the release of a fricken' demo.

And Level 5 only shows off their games at TGS and their own events. This is how it's always been. All we might get at other conferences is a short clip from an older trailer previously shown at TGS.

This.

I suspect there will be a lot of crow served when the game is officially shown at TGS. It was always a game that looked way better in motion.

So it's now a bad thing when a publisher just allows a developer to work on a game rather than constantly creating different demos, trailers ect.?

kind of a bad comparison when one picture shows the characters from the front and the other shows them from behind :/

IIRC, Dark Cloud was playable at E3 2000 (I remember a magazine criticizing the hell out of the demo build). The sequel was presented at a pre-E3 Sony event and got a playthrough at E3. Rogue Galaxy had a substantial showing at a pre-E3 Sony event due to extra content made for the US release.

Even with Sony showcasing games for the Western audience, it was a bit surprising that WKC didn't make even a minor showing (i.e. screenshots) at E3'08.

Well, the only new pics that show the characters from the front are from scans. I was talking more about the colors and lighting then anything else, but it does the seem like the character designs look more close to how they did in the original trailer from 06.

A bit of the battle system explained here. Yes, I know it's old.

Thanks,I cannot wait to see how the combat is now.

Lenard face change again as well, you can see it in the scans.

Watching the old gameplay videos from last year, the animation does look really fluid. I can only imagine what it looks like now.

E3 = United States

Jrpg don't sell in the United States (exception made for a few famous brands, and L-5 games aren't amongst them)

So, why showing at the E3 08 a Jrpg that won't be probably out til E3 09?

My guess is that there was no need to hype it so soon AND the game was really going vaporware, so Sony had no idea whether to showcase it or not. Only after that they started the pressure on L-5 to release the bitch within the end of the year.

To the ones that keep slapping those SO4 screens in everyone's faces: it's all about the lightning. IQ is good, but texture-wise...SO4 will probably be IU with uberpowa lightning running at 60fps.

the camera is really bad though, hopefully you can move that around yourself
and i noticed the other two characters standing around a lot instead of engaging in the combat themselves, i know it doesnt really show much from those gameplay clips, especially considering the enemies are really weak, but it definately looks a bit rough around the edges
a year can work wonders though ^o^

they have better hair. the images that were on the site shows. which is good. i wonder if they tweaked the gameplay mechanic. i feel as if they probably revamped the whole thing to make it more simplistic.

watching this video http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25333.html

the battle from exploring to battle isn't really seamless as there's a short pause [isn't that how IU is too?] hopefully Level-5 makes it to where there's no pause before/after a battle.

and the game really screams out for Coop ;( wish JP devs try it out. shock the world Level 5!

Yeah that's true. And whoever was playing kind of sucked lol.

19 more days! This game has just outed everything else as my most anticipated for the year.

i think that demo is from early in the game though, and in the majority of RPGs, you've got a pretty limited move set earlier on, so i think thats why those demo videos dont show any of the cool grappling and other stuff from one of the earlier trailers - instead, just lots of slashing

The interview that I linked, they said they had limited the stuff you could do in that build, ie. only the lead character was playable there, but in the actual game you can control everyone.
