Why haven't you bought a vita yet?

-when im home I would rather enjoy my 360/ps3 on my 1080p plasma and 5.1 home theater
-when im out I dont want to be seen with a video game machine at the age of 23 wearing oxford shirts and dress shoes and going to work in a professional environment. image issues, people laugh, make comments, videogames are not socially acceptable forms of entertainment.
-if the girl im going out with saw a videogame in my sports car she would tell me to put that away since her friends would make comments about me
-i was burned by the psp
-if i were to get a handheld, it would be to play pokemon, which the vita cant get

and finally i have this now -

I don´t really care for handheld gaming since it´s inferior to console gaming in pretty much every way imaginable except the mobility and this is a nonissue for me because i don´t game outside anyway.

So the Vita would need some really really amazing exclusives that i can´t get on any other platform to make me buy it.That said, it doesn´t have a single one.

Just interested to hear from those that haven't bought one, what is putting you off owning one?

Is it the price on the vita system?
The high memory card prices for small size cards?
Is it because you think it lacks games?

Too many port not enough originality?
Not enough ports?
Are you considering one but need that push?

Or a different reason?

Would you consider one? What can sony do to convince you to buy one?
.

The price, the complete lack of games that aren't ports, the proprietary memory cards and Sony's apparent lack of care for their own product based on E3 despite the fact it is getting butchered are all good enough reason for me to not buy a Vita. I want to, but there really isn't a reason to as of yet.

I even managed to justify buying a Wii U thanks to the E3 Nintendo Direct and getting hyped about the new Smash Bros., but unless Sony pulls out some sort of megaton for the system, I really can't find it in me to care.

But you won't be playing games on that iPhone anyway, because you seem to think people will laugh at you for playing games in public.

if you pull out a cool ios game like nimble quest, temple run, jetpack joyride or punch quest while waiting for the waiter or whatever you get comments like "oh what app is that? can i try. let me download that on my iphone."

now imagine pulling out a dedicated video game handheld in that same situation. the entire restaurant would stare at me like i just pulled out my dick and started rubbing it. they might be both technically "games," but the iphone ones arent seen in the same shady light by non gamers.

is that fair? no. but i dont make society's rules breh

Easily would of bought one by now but SONY f'd it up thinking they could just extort by jacking up the memory prices. Not ever going to be a pawn for something that is only going to be a luxury or something that I don't have to have.

No real interest, nothing vita has to offer interests me. Maybe if there was a new mainline metal gear game on vita, I would be interested.

It sounds like it has plenty of games, and the price for the hardware really isn't unreasonable. But there is no way in hell I'm overpaying that much for memory cards. Eat a dick Sony.

It doesn't have anything really unique to separate itself from home consoles. I own one but my 3ds gets used a lot more.

Point 1: There is nothing "cool" about ios games

Point 2: You´re right with gaming handhelds in public though, they are seen as childrens toys and you will automatically be seen as a weirdo if you play with them as a grown man.

Price, mem cards, and I found the system feels very cheap and flimsy. I keep reading about how great owners find the system to be, but I hated the feel of the analogs and buttons of the kiosk units.

But I would love to play persona...:(

I dunno, I've never felt like that was a thing, ever. Maybe I'm just lucky enough to live in a city where nobody gives a fuck what portable device you're playing around with to kill time.

I actually did have one for a time, but sold it after about six months (however I did keep the 32gb memory card). I just never found a single game in the entire existing library that grabbed me. I was hoping that Soul Sacrifice would finally be that game, but I was completely underwhelmed by the demo. That was really the straw that broke the camel's back.

There's a chance I'll repurchase a Vita once the price comes down as I'm interested in remote play with the PS4 (it's why I held onto the memory card), but I just never found a game that commanded my attention over stuff I could play on my consoles.

And not to turn this into a platform debate, but I just recently picked up a 3DS, Animal Crossing, and Fire Emblem and I'm already hooked. In six months of searching I never found a Vita exclusive that I couldn't put down, whereas the first two damn games I tried for the 3DS already have me sold on the platform. I think it has a lot to do with both games just playing to the strengths of the device, on top of being great in bite-sized chunks. I think I've just realized that I don't want console games on my handheld, as I tend to find them uninteresting.

The fucking stupid high price of the memory cards.

Also the lack of any system sellers or japanese games like the PSP had. The only game I'd really want to get is Ys.

Honestly, it's still lacking one big title I REALLY have to play. Don't worry, I don't skip Sony systems, but this is the first one I take so long to buy indeed. Maybe later this year.

I'm gonna sound crazy here and say that if more people just started using 3DS/Vita every day like people do with iOS, Androids, Smart phones, etc. then this wouldn't happen. My point here is that's it's a circular argument:
"Why don't you play handheld games in public?"
"Because it's not socially acceptable."
"Why isn't it socially acceptable?"
"Because people don't play handheld games in public."

Also one thing I've started to do is if someone asks me why I'm still playing a 3DS, I'll tell them it's really popular in Japan and pretty much everyone there has one.

All about the price. Literally, that is the ONLY barrier that exists for me. I mean, $83 for a memory device? No thanks.

I really want to get one, though. I've got 15 games through PS+ for it, so far. I'm just not going to pay roughly $370 for a Vita, 32GB, and Persona 4 Golden.

What? No. That's like saying if people waved their dicks around more, it would be more accepted.

Android, iOS, and smart phones are socially acceptable because they're not just games device, but your phone. The stigma shouldn't exist, but it doesn't mean that playing on a phone and playing on a dedicated handheld should be perceived as the same thing.

If I buy a Vita in this moment I'd probably buy:

- Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz
- Mortal Kombat
- UMvC3
- SFxT
- Dead or Alive
- Shinobido
- Dynasty Warriors Next
- Hot Shots Golf

Honestly it's still a very hard buy for me (especially considering I already own several of those on other systems). Also I adore indie games guys, but I can already play them.

BTW insecure people will be insecure. I'm a responsible adult, I have a good job, I have a career and I play Animal Crossing on the bus.

I have an iPhone. As simple as that. If I had to choose, I would grab a Vita over 3DS due to the hardware. I'll wait for it to get some more titles first though.

I dunno, I've never felt like that was a thing, ever. Maybe I'm just lucky enough to live in a city where nobody gives a fuck what portable device you're playing around with to kill time.

The last time I pulled out my DS in public everyone in the street fell silent, stopped and stared at me. It made the front page of the local newspaper and I had to change my identity.

Learn from my mistakes.

Get an iPhone.

I find all handheld gaming physically unpleasant. My neck hurts, my eyes strain, if I'm laying down my arms get tired...

Just awful for me. I don't own a 3DS or a Vita. I bought an old DS Lite when it was new and used it on a trip to Europe. After that I used it maybe twice.

If any of these consoles had a way to show the screen on a TV I'd be in, because there are some games I'd like to play.

There is only so much time to game on my everyday life, and the amazing 3ds library fulfills my handheld needs and then some.
I'll just borrow one to play Tearaway and that will suffice for me.

I will grab one if there is a decent price drop.

My 3DS has most of my handheld needs covered and most of the psp games I haven't finished or want to play are on UMDs. Those are the biggest reason why I am not currently feeling the need to drop $250 -$300 on one.

these

+ I like that it's becoming a portable indie machine but it aint enough for me considering I can play all those games on my PC right now

I think i'll get one eventually. Sister making a trip to NY this October and was considering it but after E3 and just lack of stuff I want all around it's gonna have to be later. Tearaway and Persona 4 aint enough

-I have a 3DS and many of its great games
-I have a smart phone with many of its okay (never great) games
-the price is too high for the amount of good games on offer
-the memory card price is absurdly high
-the future of its software support looks depressing
-PS4 remote play will probably be limited, but hopefully not

pretty much

this girl that was really into me in high school got in my car in and saw my GBA in the glove box when i told her "yeah i have some gum in there, go ahead."
she saw that and pretty much gave the most vile look like i had some my little pony porn in there. "you play video games, tahaha. hold on i gotta text amanda." LAST TIME, LAST TIME i brought a handheld out of the house. never again.

i wish games were cool, but they arent and i cant change the world

I was going to buy one last week. I post on three forums that have game related sections, and all three of them when I went into the Vita thread to ask some questions had only people talking about how Sony have abandoned the Vita and how they feel like it was not worth it. So I didn't get one.

Video Out.

That's all I fucking want. Sony just cut it to enforce the crap cross buy on us (which failed miserably, and who in his right mind would buy the same game twice?!). Won't support their shady dealings. Give me a vita slim and we can start talking. To this day, I use my PSP almost daily to watch stuff while on my way around town. Had a fat psp, ff psp slim and bought a used psp go.

This console will never be relevant.

It's been a valiant attempt on Sony's part to keep it relevant with cross-play and the indie inititatives. But it has no future. It's a relic of
the "old" Sony. Hamstrung by proprietary memory and a lack of understanding of the ecosystem it now finds itself outclassed within. Let it go.

I bought a PSP, day one at midnight. In my opinion they still haven't delivered on the awesomeness that was suppose to be the PSP. Sony let me down personally.

Edit: Basically I see the VITA as PSP 2.0, same disappointment with a new price tag.

I always think two handheld is too much for me.So if I choose one the answer definitely is 3DS.I love Nintendo games and the variety on 3DS is good enough.
Also I owned a NDS,I can still play those games on my 3DS
For the Vita I am interested in some games. But no game on Vita makes me think"I will regret If I don't play it",and i doubt Sony can do anything in future for me to change my mind. But anything is possible.

Price.
Battery Life
Storage Prices.
The region bullshit.

Thats it mostly.

if remote play with PS4 works as promised, I'll buy one. Especially if crossbuys continue.

What region bullshit?

As for me:

Price of the console and memory cards, plus the fact that it doesn't really have much in the way of exclusives coming for it in the future.

Vita is too expensive, both in terms of hardware and the necessary memory card. I can't justify paying $250+ for any handheld, especially since my iOS device sufficiently fills the bill for gaming on the go or in quick bursts. Is it worth nearly $300 for analog sticks & buttons? Not to me.

Vita has to come down to $150-- and Sony must offer cheaper memory cards-- before I will even consider buying one... though even then, it'd be a bit of a tough sell.

the price and the memory card price are the only thing holding me back.

now that there is going to be some excellent use between it and the PS4, it's become a must have for me... possibly just a few more months (and collecting all the free Vita games on PS+).

Yeah I am kinda on the fence. Biggest reasons in order of importance:

1. I feel there is a price drop coming soon.
2. I feel there is a possible redesign coming soon.
3. There aren't that many games I want for it.

I do however fell it is only a matter of time before I get one. Especially with a PS4 preordered.
