Wii U: new firmware update released (5.2.0) - Folders!

I can't believe you people have enough stuff on your systems to necessitate folders. I picked up my Wii U for the first time in about a month the other day and had to remove a layer of dust. But hey, I'm glad they're trying to make their system better. Maybe in 10 years they'll have a unified account system and an interface that doesn't take 15-20 seconds to get into and out of system settings.

Take this bullshit to Reddit, junior...

Everybody's excited for folders and I am too. But that download management thing seems like it could be useful. Especially in getting rid of that "download complete" notification every time I use the gamepad.

Post update, I keep getting a "Can't connect to the server - Error 102-2932" message. Anyone else?

I kept getting connection errors until I checked for new system updates in the System Settings. UK here. It still won't let me read and agree the new Network Agreement though even though I've installed the update. The folders are nice, so thats good.

Installed the update, set up folders, started the YouTube app and the console hard locked during the initial loading splash screen.

Dat stability.

Contrary to bullshit internet posts, not playing your consoles does not let dust settle faster.

Clean your goddamn house.

Oh boy, now I have all these folders to organize my large collection of digital Wii-U games.

I'm only half joking as I have a dozen VC games in the month since I got my Wii-U.

Really? Really?

using that purple for the SNES :/

Personally I went with blue for GBA, because that was the color of the logo.

hmm good idea. hmm we need moar colors :P
currently using that blue for WiiU Retail titles

As someone who owns quite a few Virtual Console games, I'm really happy that Nintendo finally brought folders to the Wii U home menu.

Something else,

When you press the home button and go to the new home screen, the "you have new data downloaded" pop up now shows at the bottom of the screen.

I receive the pop up nearly everytime as I have pikmin dlc there i've never opened. And I press the home button when I want to see the time or date or check my controllers battery! And usually the pop up blocks it for a few seconds.

This might be a placebo effect, but everything feels a bit faster. Home menu, navigation, opening and closing apps, etc.
Opening Miiverse only took like 3 seconds (that was a first!).

To be fair, the youtube app has always been a mess...
It didn't even reach the app though, just the initial loading app screen that every game/app has. If you told me I'd be having the most hard locks/crashes on a Nintendo console 10 years ago I'd have laughed. :(

Loving the folders though. Everything finally organized. Much needed functionality.

Was hoping the eShop changes was going to say you can buy stuff without having the storage space available.

Monster Hunter code from Mario Kart expires at midnight but my Y cable won't arrive until tomorrow so I can't redeem the code :(

Edit: Just checked my mail and the cable arrived a day earlier than it said it would <3

Updating now and then redeeming my code :D :D :D

I do wonder why Nintendo took so long to give the Wii U folders when the 3DS has had them for ages. I guess it might of only just become stable enough to handle them.

Just delete the game(s) and redeem the code, you can still redownload them later and as long as you dont delete the save file, they should have all the save data aswell

Now that would be my dream come true!
But I don't want to derail this thread so... yeah... FOLDERS whoohoo!!!!!

System settings? You mean that thing that people use maybe once a year or thereabouts

Ditto here, must be having issues. Cant get on Miiverse, eshop or play online either.

The Folders are cool, but the next thing on the list for me is background themes, if the New 3DS can have them, I don't see why the Wii u can't.

For the record, this is my setup:

eShop (Orange), NES (Red), SNES (Purple), GBA (Blue), Apps (Yellow), N64 (Green), DS (Black), Other (Pink).

I suspect last 3 folders will remain empty for quite some time, but I figured I may as well make them now.

Just to repost my position: Folders should have been here day one.

But now we can post dashboard screenshots and discuss every variations of ways to organize your games/apps/demos/VC and folder colors :)
