Wii U: new firmware update released (5.2.0) - Folders!

Downloaded update, my Wii U had 4 pages worth of items that's now thankfully condensed back to one thanks to happy folder times

Only shame is this doesn't organise a darn thing for any sub accounts. My dad's NNID account (used for wii fit only) still has all the apps sprawled out.

Read the thread about the update. Turned my Wii U on, downloaded and installed the update. Managed my homescreen and finally could put everything in folders.

I was like:

Same here, already installed when I turned on my Wii U past midnight. Auto-update feature is godsend.

Anyone else pick thematic colors for their folders? My NES folder is red for obvious reasons. I initially went with purple for SNES folder, but that color seemed more appropriate for GBA. So GBA is purple and SNES is green (favorite color for favorite system). Wii U folder is blue, and Indie folder is pink (b/c indie games are different, loose association, I know).
I set up an empty gray folder for N64, grrr.

Anyone else have specific reasons for how they color code their folders?

Reggie really does read GAF?

Many of us have been bitchin' about the lack of folders for over a year now.

Or Nintendo reads their Club Nintendo surveys. I and many others have been mentioning folders in the CN surveys for 2 years now.

SPOILERS: They read the CN surveys. Make sure to fill them out with real information.

Let me move Savegames from the HDD to internal space without moving the whole game!

My HDD is about to die and I will lose every savegame of every game except the one that will fit on the internal space :(

Time to buy a new HDD? Transferring everythiing would be tedious but you could do it.

For digital games (retail can move savegames by themselves), this is sorely needed though, I agree.

Many of these functions should have been there day 1. It baffles me how the console companies, not just Nintendo, release their operating systems in such a raw, barebones state.

I kind of like pages of games so I didn't go too crazy with folders. Just made folders for my gba, snes, and apps(panorama, video chat) It did allow me room to put wii fit u and my big party games on the first screen though which is nice.

Guys....

Guys....

I can't actually work out how to create a folder and I've been trying for 10 minutes. I've tried to drop one icon onto another like on the 3DS but it just swaps the icons around.

It's horrendous that you still have to point your Wii remote at the TV before you can use the gamepad as a screen, but I don't want to bring the topic down.

I really wish I could tack the tile icon for one of the games in my folder as the folder "cover" instead of having that hideous folder icon displayed instead.

Used the same system as on the 3DS

- currently playing folder where I put all games I'm still playing
- retail downloads
- downloadable games
- virtual consoles
- apps

And I leave the system apps on the first page for quick access.

But doing all that organising made me realise I really need to remove lots of stuff... including the AC plaza I only downloaded for the CN stars :p

Ha I basically did the same thing. Nes is red, SNES is purple, Apps/info = pink (color I probably won't have another use for) , orange for eShop games, blue for downloaded Wii U titles, and gray will definitely be used for N64.

This thread is amazing, thanks to the awesome, creative & happy minds of NintendoGAF. Love ya all! :3

Btw, the folders are really nice. I wouldn't mind more colors, though.

While not exactly god's gift to firmware updates, the folders are quite nice. There really is some simple stuff missing still though, like scaling the tile sizes on 3DS.

Pretty much the same here except I went with yellow for SNES because yellowing is what that system does. ;p

Went purple for SNES since that was the color for it here in the states. Went orange for GBA since I loved that color on it despite not owning one. I'm not putting eShop games in a folder so no conflict there. Blue is the Wii U color so my apps go in there.

NES is red, SNES is purple, GBA is blue (since I had a transparent one that always looked blue to me), N64 is grey, eShop is orange, and I don't buy retail games digitally so no need for a folder there

Utilities is pink, since I don't think I'd use pink for anything else. Only thing I need to do is find a color for Nintendo DS whenever that comes out. Green? But that doesn't fit

I need like a silver

edit: Green actually works alright

Yup! WiiU Retail gets blue, because of the cases. E-Shop downloads get Orange. NES gets Grey. SNES gets Purple. GBA gets Red (Because I had a red GBA SP, I dunno.).

The text formatting on the folders is annoying. Took me a bit of tweaking to make the labels look decent.

Also, has the chime when using the TV remote function always been there?

While I love the organisation that folders bring to my bloated Wii U menu, I can't yet bring myself to hide away the delightful tile icons of my retail and eShop games. The big T for Trine, the cubes and shapes for EDGE and RUSH, the quirky face of Mallo, Scram Kitty and Toki Tori, the Pikmin and Link's boat in Wind Waker...

Eveything else has been packed away. Demos, Virtual Console, Video and Apps. But, for now, my games (non-VC) are wild and free.

This is wrong. Just touch the Wii Menu icon on the Gamepad, and then press + on the Wii Remote to display it only on the pad screen.

Secretly the best new feature about this update!

Weird issue for me after the update...when I power on it says something like "quick menu not available yet, turn off system and wait then try again" or something like that. Um..wtf. Anyone else experience this? The initial folder high is still going strong, but it might wear off soon.

Hahaha. Did the same. I started with the Dark Grey for NES because it was grey and then realized that would work better for my Wii U since it is black. I then changed it to red because that is another color associated with NES.

I started my SNES one as purple too. What am I going to do when Gamecube games can be downloaded? (even though my Gamecube was black you think of purple when you think of Gamecube? Maybe Orange Spice???

In another update it would be cool if they had themed folders that represent each system along with the generic colors.

Wouldn't have tried that. My closest empty square is at the back of the 3rd page.

Don;t feel bad. I had to look up how to move the files (folders and games around)

I keep tapping them then immediately would try to drag. Didn't know you had to let the stylus sit on it for a couple of seconds

I did theme colors at first.

Wii U digital = blue
eShop = orange
SNES = purple
NES = red

But I decided the colors didn't match, so I switched U digital to green. I haven't used grey because it's boring looking.

Don't know why I didn't do blue for Wii U. My system is black so I used grey because that was closest. Blue makes perfect sense. I will have to change that.
