I mean, now we have two things to consider.
1) Will TFA break $1 billion domestic?
2) Will TFA break $100 million over its third weekend?
"The problem is we didn't spend enough money the first time around."
I think it's for the best, honestly.
Remember that the OT wasn't entirely directed by George with an iron fist like the prequels were. The OT was directed by a different guy each film.
A lot of people complain that Abrams relies too much on references and stuff from other films so it's probably for the better they have another director come in with some more originality.
And TFA really isn't a remake of ANH. I think that belief is rudimentary and wholly misplaced. It has thematic similarities, homages perhaps, but it's still a very different movie with greatly differing characters, narrative, overall sense of pacing and spectacle.
Wait, what? He's not? Why?
I wish JJ was directing all 3.
Can someone reverse this gif lol
TFA $1B domestic is almost guaranteed. That's going to be the first movie to do that ever right?
Technically, 12 days, since it opened in some foreign markets on the 16th. But it could be 11 days if it broke $1 billion yesterday -- we need to see the daily International breakdown for Fri/Sat/Sun to know for sure.
Jurassic World did it in 13 days, and it got pretty close at $980 million in 12 days (but it had China adding $168 million).
With as popular as its been and with how well it's been reviewed, I'd expect high 7s at least. That would be more in line with similar well reviewed blockbusters. I wonder if there's just an influx of spiteful haters reviewing.Really? It seems about right to me.
Yeah, that's true.Don't have them. It's always been likely that it won't pass it WW.
We might be getting one of the biggest movies at the domestic BO in their first run adjusted for inflation though.

Did you even see the average?Hateful 8 bomba?
HoooooooooooHis acting wasn't that bad. From my point of view the writing was evil.
I wonder if this will break Gone With The Wind's All time ticket number, that is the most impressive stat in all of cinema history. I think that's a better way to judge a movie's historical place. With that being said, The Force Awakens will still slaughter every domestic recored that Avatar owns.
Once the initial swell of nostalgia washes over, you come to the realization that TFA didn't have much of a story, had so-so VFX, was all just a setup for the next two Star Wars saga films, and is an overall mediocre film. With as popular as its been and with how well it's been reviewed, I'd expect high 7s at least. It's not a clone, it's a remake.I'll die happy when people stop regurgitating "ANH Clone" anytime TFA is brought up. There are more ways it is different than the same anywho. Or are people grumpy it made a lot of money and they don't like it?
Jurassic World got a 6.9 as AoU got 7.0 user scores for comparison.7 is still "good" just not great.
How did The Revenant make so little money?
Big drop compared with the rest of the Top 10.

I'm not saying 7.2 is terrible, I was just surprised it wasn't higher considering its reception and strong WOM.
Close to 50% split? That must have happened before (or am I missing something?).I have never seen this type of split
Domestic: $544,573,329 49.9%
+ Foreign: $546,000,000 50.1%
HOLLYHELL. Domestically this movie is killing it
It's not a clone, it's a remake.
Harrison Ford is loving this
I wonder what the % of Avatar dropped in it's second weekend.
38% isn't nearly as high as most movies, but it still feels higher than I expected. The theater I was at yesterday was still packed, we preordered tickets and still had six seats to choose from with 4 people. And others were being turned away from selling out still.
With Oscar buzz going for that film, I think it might save it.
How did The Revenant make so little money?
This is the greatest day of my life.
Can't believe they did it. They bloody did it.
How did The Revenant make so little money?
Theater Count / Change
Do you have shares in Disney or something?
What percentage is he getting?
It's not a clone, it's a remake.
Also really glad hateful eight beat star wars going by average theatre. 45k vs 37k. The better movie won. Take that disney
I don't think that's entirely or mostly Abrams fault. Disney probably wanted to get back the old fanbase and play it save due to the high criticism of the prequels, but on the other hand Star Trek Into Darkness was basically a remake of Wrath of Khan.
So, looks like it'll be the #1 domestic movie, and probably the #3 worlwide, maybe #2.
It's not a clone, it's a remake.
