So there's a mostly-ignored button on the controller because the design prohibits reaching it when using the analog stick? That doesn't sound like excellent overall design.
I generally like Nintendo's controllers overall. The N64 is just one area where they got it all wrong. In recent years I've enjoyed N64 games much more on Virtual Console where I can use different controllers.

How do you press the left shoulder button now in that position?
Worst controller is easily this shit that ruined an entire library of games.

This ain't no small minority preference like DUALSHOCK haters dislike of symmetrical sticks(its not their fault them poor unsymmetrical souls)...No no, This controller is actually a piece of shit.
Look at it! How do you press the left shoulder button now in that position?
Kinda hard to tell.....Because It's true, double edged sword dat is.
Yep. You're playing 3D games with a device designed for word processing. It doesn't get any worse than that.
I'm tempted to say the Xbox One Elite Controller, thing is too heavy to actually use its main feature on the controller and its close to $200, but the Wii Mote and Nunchuck exist. They are worse then some of the early game consoles in the 70s and 80s.
Nintendo did give out gloves to help people's hands from hurting from playing Mario Party too aggressivelyMy only real problem with the N64 controller was it's analog stick wearing down and hurting your thumb after too much play.
The worst controller is also, at times, the best controller.
The 360 pad is a great controller, but it has the worst D-pad ever conceived. So, for 2D platforming games, while you may be able to struggle though it, the 360 pad is the worst possible controller. Really dumb oversight that compromised an otherwise immaculate product.
Ah, so it seems some N64 controller haters are also people who never use one. "How do you press the left shoulder button" indeed.

I thought that MK pad was going to be so good, and then the dpad was mashed potatoes.

Honorable mention : the Steam Controller in the uselessness department. As a mouse it's subpar, and as a regular controller (using the thumbstick and buttons) it's horrible
Holy shit you just took me back to a forgotten piece of the 90s I didn't remember I was fond about! I played so many games in that controller I was so bummed out when new PCs didn't feature that controller port! All my NES and SNES emulator phases were played using that thing and the entirety of FFVII (I played it on PC) as well.![]()
Microsoft SideWinder
The whole thing looks like and feels like an indistinct mass of cheap plastic.
This right here![]()
Quite possibly the most uncomfortable controller in the modern era. Far too small and input is nowhere near precise enough as it should be.
