Would you buy a next gen re-make of FFVII?

I'd buy a ps3 for it, but only cause it's FF7, and there's very likely going to be another game in the ico series for the ps3 (and another gradius game as well).

I wouldn't. I've already played the game and would rather play something new. If there was a FF7 sequel then yes, but not the same game over again.

That chapter of the character's "lives" has passed and it's time to move onto the future :lol

I am worried that the development for the remake is already well underway. The tech demo keeps popping up at various places. It was shown ant TGS, Square Enix Party etc. I hope they make an epic and open FF though.

Embrace, baby. You get the NEW shit, and to see HIDEOS FF7 updated to not look like shit on the street. No concessions, man. You get both. Embrace TOMMORROW.

The reason I went with PS1 over N64 (well I did get both in the end...) was because of because of FF7. I'd buy two copies if they'd made a remake!

i'm going to be pissed if they remake VII before remaking IV-VI (if not in 3D, then in high-res sprites. i wouldn't really count the GBA versions as remakes)

and square needs to give the FFVII revival a rest for awhile. how about a an expansion of the FF8 universe? the game isn't near as popular as VII, but it had alot of interesting concepts and characters.

Hell yes I would. You know how awesome the music in that game would sound redone with a large symphony with true surround sound? :O

And they would for FFVII?

They can fix the plotholes in FFVII with better writing/translating, I think. FFVIII has such colossal plotholes that literally became integral to the storyline that you'd need to change entire sections of the game for next-gen systems to be powerful enough to render it.

FFXII seems to be the first FF in awhile that nobody's cared about. im sure it'll sell, but it dont see it being that popular. i see it selling like FF9

we don't need a FFVIII remake, all we need is a movie, an ova and a game where you play as Laguna and another where you play as Seifer

Only if they:

1) Gave the characters motivation with more depth than simple blind idealism that remains unwavering even in the face of everything going on around them.

2) Made the characters animated and alive during their conversations rather than having them stand around like a group of talking statues.

3) Killed Aeris three seconds after you meet her. Or at least stopped her from doing that stupid swaying thing that she does. Most annoying character ever.

4) Dropped the materia system and replaced it with something more sensible that didn't turn the characters into swappable faceplates as far as battles are concerned.

5) Gave the characters abilities that could be used with a lot more regularity than Limit Breaks. You know, abilities like Jump for Cid, Steal for Yuffie (why someone who steals for a living has to equip materia to do it is beyond me), and so on.

6) Drastically revamped the story so that the last 35-45 hours of it can't all be boiled down to "hunt down Sephiroth." If I know 15 hours that the goal of the game is to kill Sephiroth, and by the end of the game I kill Sephiroth, why did I even need to play? I knew what would happen anyway.

7) Created a better ending, like one that doesn't send the message that I just completely wasted 60 hours of my life because the world would have saved itself anyway.

8) Got rid of the five dozen or so terrible minigames. If I'm buying an RPG, I don't want to have to march in a parade, defend a tower RTS-style, give a little girl CPR, wiggle my way to a key in the gas chamber, have a slapping fight with Scarlet, work the controls of a train to make it accelerate, or anything else that's not playing an RPG, much less do it with bad controls. Even the motorcycle and snowboarding sequences, despite the fact that I liked them, shouldn't have been forced on players outside of the Gold Saucer. Make all this stuff optional if it has to be kept.

9) Didn't force me to put Cloud in the party. I couldn't care less about Cloud.

10) Eliminated the load times before each battle, and/or doubled the amount of experience you earn while halving the encounter rate.

11) Made at least three alternate outfits for Tifa and Yuffie, all of which were cute.

Yeah, I'm still bitter about having wasted a Christmas list spot on FF7. And 8, for that matter.
Especially considering the beauty they managed to pull off in FF6, FF9, FF4, and FF5. And even FF10 to some extent, because despite its extreme linearity it's still better than 7 and 8 combined if for no other reason than that you can't get away with using three and only three characters for the entire game.

Shit, I care more about the impending release of FFXII than any other FF since FFVIII. I'm genuinely excited. They're taking the series to brand new places, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Almost everything I've wished for in the FF world all this time is in, I just hope the elements themselves are solid now :)

They hype will restart when Square Enix announces the NA release date. I am actually very hyped about the demo, can't wait for Nov 15.

Why do you hate fun?

I agree. i always wanted an (offline) FF without random battle encounters, so i should have a field day with this one.

in some recent EGM they called it a "dungeon hack" though. I thought that was kind of odd to judge it so quick

I know it wouldn't necessarily be like FF, but if it is a dungeon hack that's cool too. I love my collecting endless items and monster hides and what not.

SERIOUS AND RATHER WORRYING "they should only remake GOOD games!" OPTION

How is this rather worrying? Not all people liked FF7 that much. Myself I think it's the worst ff now that 1&2 have been remade for GBA. Other people like it, fine, I'm just not among them, and that's my opinion. You can have your own. I'd be more worried if everyone had the same opinion.

I'd probably want to try it if it looked like the E3 trailer but I think FFVII is extremely overrated so who knows.

My hype dropped as soon as I heard about the battle system. I'm still interested in it a little because it is FF, but that battle system.

I'd buy. I fucking hated FFVII, but since I own pretty much every other commercial (US) release of the franchise, I'd buy it again.

You scare me sometimes. You need to take a pic of your entire collection one day. I wonder if the majority is still in the shrinkwrap.

I already have the PSOne and PC versions, so what's one more copy?

:/
Dear God what the hell is wrong with you? You admit you didn't like it yet you bought that shit TWICE???

It gets worse. :(

If anything, I hated FFVIII even more... and own the PC and PSOne versions of that too...

But wait. The second greatest evil inflicted upon the FF franchise (FFX-2 being the first greatest evil) was FFXI, and I picked that up on the PS2 (with the HDD), with the Chains of Promethia expansion pack later, and then got the Vana'diel Collection for the PC (FFXI, Rise of the Zigart expansion, Chains of Promethia expansion).

I... I... I have a drinking problem... :/

Are you even a Final Fantasy fan? :D

I <3 FF1, FF3, FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFIX, FFA2, FFA3, FFT, and FFTA.

I h8 FFVII, FFVIII, FFX, FFX-2, and FFXI

I am merely like FF2 and FFCC

I'd like to think I wouldn't buy it unless they added new content, enhanced and refined the gameplay, tweaked the materia system (I think they could do a whole lot with this, especially if they followed that persons suggestion and gave each character a unique ability, then add materias that would enhance those abilities), maybe do it like DQVIII where there's a smooth, continous transition between field/town/dungeon, ditch the random battles, etc.

But knowing me, I'd rebuy if all they did was add some higher poly models, cleaned up the pre-rendered backdrops and threw a new FMV intro into it.

I would buy it and so would every last one of you people saying No. Once you saw it in action and once you're swimming in hype, you know you'd cave.

It depends on how much the graphics have improved. If we're only getting graphical upgrades, they should put all 3 PSone Final Fantasies on one disc to make it worth it.

I don't understand the hate towards a remake of a "classic" game. While it may not be one's cup of tea, by the time FFVII would be remade, there'll be several "new" gamers that never got a chance to play the original. I'm going through FF1+2 on the GBA and loving it, tho I never had the opportunity to play FF1 on the NES. I'm going through FF1+2 on the GBA and loving it, tho I never had the opportunity to play FF1 on the NES.

I realize some people wouldn't buy the remake because they either didn't like the original, don't feel it needs to be updated, or would rather play something new. To those people, there'll be plenty of other new games. But to chastise a company for releasing something that tons of other gamers desire is just selfish.

i'd possibly want to see it again as a graphics showcase, but it it was a straight remake, then i can't be arsed playing back through a game i've already completed (where the story is the MAIN reason to play it)

regardless, im pretty certain the game will be remade sometime within the next 5-10 yrs, and when it's released, im certain it'll be squarenix's best selling game ever
