XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

Needs AA batteries in 2015.
Costs $150.

Ok.

Why don't people like AA batteries? They're not proprietary (so you won't get ripped off), easy to find, and you can purchase rechargeable ones easily. From what I understand the Xbox One controllers also get significantly better battery life then the the Dualshock too...

E3 always brings out the absolute stupid on GAF. I don't even know why I bother coming here anymore.

I don't know what E3 was to do with it. this thing is clearly overpriced. how much could it possibly cost to produce? $5? 10? you can't tell me it costs more than $20. everyone seems to agree, this clearly costs more than it's worth.

Yeah, wear on the potentiometer/switch housing is a problem for all analog controllers that most commonly results in drift. I wonder if the quality or design of the one in this controller is any different than the standard ones used in stock controllers.

I've never had drifting controllers. My main issue is how rough the sticks feel because of the worn out plastic.

I agree, and once your rechargables have had a year or so worth of use you can buy new ones and get full performance again, internal batteries drop 30% in a year or something like that.

No, those are sales. That's why the current price is higher than the lowest recorded price. The MSRP on MS and Sony controllers have not once come down since the launch of their last platforms about a decade ago. The same is true for third party sellers.

Will you be able to find one at some point on sale? Maybe so. But I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a Microsoft price drop.

Or the lowest recorded price was the sale. What bizarre logic is this? You can get the controller right now for less than it launched for. Are you the type of person who still considers XB1 "on sale" and not cheaper than when it launched?

The graph clearly shows stages of the price dropping for significant spans of time.

This is crazy overpriced. That thing probably costs maximum 75$ in bill of manufacturing. I doubt it'll be worth the money, however I won't hesitate to try it out at a booth or at a store.

Always love this parallel reality post

I'm by no means a competitive-pro whatever gamer, but would like to rock that baby on my gaming PC

Fallout 4 with style yoo

I'm totally with the AA love people here. I bought a bunch of eneloops a few years ago for a camera flash, but I've been using them for the xbox controllers and wiimotes and I find it so convenient.

Because you can hook a USB cord in your controller and PC for 24/7 without worrying about replacing outdated technology?

okay, that's something you can do too if you're not into the whole wireless thing. You don't need batteries if you plug it in.
I guess I don't understand what you're saying.

Crazy expensive but they saw scuff controllers and modded controllers selling for these prices so they knew there was a market. I'm happy with my stock controllers although I did have a modded 360 controller when I played a ton of CoD. It was one of those cheap like $70 multi mod scripts only no hardware mods.

I'm pretty sure you can charge AA batteries with a USB. Plus, if you have four batteries you can just swap and charge which is a better system IMO.

Edit: Plus isn't their the Xbox One play & charge kit?

The price seems insane, but if this truly is a premium product built well enough to last decades, then the price makes sense (and it's probably worth it, honestly). Specialized controllers with a build quality that's not utter shit (arcade sticks, wheels, etc.) are at least this much. Reminds me of people complaining about how quickly Rock Band guitars would crap out and then flipping out when a well-built one cost nearly as much as some real guitars.

With that said, there's no way I would buy one until they've been out in the field for a bit and it's been confirmed to be the high-end controller Microsoft is claiming.

Haah much is it widout all dem akshesherees?

Dey got a hunerd dahler wun?

Ain'aboutta drop no hunerd fitty dahlers on no kintroller!!!

Because if they go out you have to stop playing to switch them, leave the old ones charging etc.

When my PS3 controller starts complaining I just plug it in to the nearest usb cable I have lying around. Also because fuck keeping track of yet another pair of rechargeables.

If you can charge them via USB while playing, it'd be somewhat acceptable, but jesus christ, for $150 it needs to have an internal battery.

Yeah, isn't the play and charge kit this exact thing?

...no, because the MSRP on the XB1 actually dropped on Microsoft's end.

There's a reason Amazon is the retailer we're talking about here and it's because they constantly eat additional margins on hardware other retailers cannot. It's six whole dollars off MSRP because Amazon is willing to cut their margin that much lower and keep the product on sale. No matter what the MSRP is you will regularly find the same kind of minor additional margin being cut by Amazon simply because they deal in volume that they can afford to.

I mean if by "waiting on a price drop" you mean you're waiting for Amazon to squeeze another ~5-10% off the top, by all means. But Microsoft actually dropping the MSRP on this particular product - especially given the category - is an entirely different story.

I was all in until the price was revealed. Maybe if it gets reasonable regional price conversion. But it won't, so I won't.

Yep, I've used the same two pair of rechargables since I bought the xb1 last August. So easy to swap out and keep going.

And then you have a wired controller again. Welcome to 2000. Get the fuck outta here with that shit.

Day one, for sure.

People should just ignore the "OMGWTF $150 dollary-doos?!?" lumpen masses. GAF is stuffed full of people pale with outrage over $200+ jeans, headphones that cost more than Beats, and generally any item at all that they can't afford, thus tossing it on the pyre of unworthy purchases.

$150, though? For a non-One owner such as myself, that's kinda alot.

I wonder if this'll be bundled down the line in a 4Q One deal, though...

A rallying cry for the ages, folks.

The price is to cash in on the Kinect loss.

Please people, let your wallets dictate the prices. It is almost half the cost of the console currently.

Sorry, but at $150 I can only see this:
