XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

Thinking about buying the Elite Console that comes with the Elite controller. Not sure though. Not able to find any impressions on the controller.

Are there any impressions out yet?

There is not full impressions yet but on the latest Beastcast, Jeff Bakalar talks about his initial impressions of using it.

Outside of the quality, customization app, there's nothing an impression is going to tell you. This is the type of thing that you have to try yourself, you'll have to hold the controller yourself to see if the paddles work for you. No one's going to be able to tell you if they will or not.

I ordered mine after the 9th (ordered on the 12th) and Amazon told me to expect it on release day.

There is a big note on the page:

Note on Availability:
Due to high customer demand, orders placed after 12:53 PM PST on October 9th, 2015 will not arrive on the release day. Order now and we'll notify you by email when we have an estimated delivery date for this item.

Yeah. I saw the note. I asked customer service and they said I was good for release day.

It's just a wait and see thing now

Whoa, good for SCUF then. I had assumed that company would've been basically dead after the Elite controller but I guess they were smart to have gotten patents on the paddles.

I was wondering how Microsoft was getting away with using paddles on the back cuz scuf has that patent. Hopefully scuf will take this money and improve build quality and customer service.

For those who have already picked up a newer controller: how nice are the improved bumpers? Using the Elite will be my first experience with this upgrade.

It makes a difference. I'm so glad Gamestop had that $35 controller trade-in so I could get rid of my old ones and replace them with the white/gold controllers. They look so good.

I agree with these two. Even though I didn't have a problem with the original bumpers, the new ones still feel so much better.

Reeeeally fucking good.

The Lunar White controller is gorgeous and I like the gold, they did something cool with the white controller motif.

It's nice. So nice I'll say it twice. It's nice.

This is all just great news. It was the only real issue that I had with the One controller. Other than that it's goat. Not greatest of all time, just goat.

Xbox One controllers are like an addiction for me at this point. So many to collect. @_@

Nice collection. I wish I had some of those, but they're just too pricey.

Why would you put stickers on one of the best? The Locke controller. It's brand new.

My Halo 5 Elite Controller Layout (just for ideas):

Left Bumper: Grenade
Left Trigger: Thruster Pack
Left Back Upper Paddle: Jump
Left Stick: Sprint

Right Bumper: Reload
Right Trigger: Shoot
Right Back Upper Paddle: Crouch(slide)/ground pound
Right Stick: Smart scope

X: Switch Weapon
B: Melee/Spartan Charge
A: Scoreboard
Y: Toggle Grenade

I think this is one of the most optimal layouts i could come up with. It's all about speed and what i think would be the buttons used the most throughout a match. "thruster pack" on left trigger might seem weird to some, but i played a lot of ShadowRun 360 and teleport was always on left trigger.

There's no way i can go left trigger being smart scope, can't do it. Doesn't seem optimal for Halo since you sometimes move forward while scoping. My paddles will both be the bigger ones, going upwards in the top slot. I'm pretty confident this is going to be the most comfortable for me.

Damn i'm hyped for this controller! The optimaziation possibilities are endless

Ground pound is tied to melee now, and I dont know if you're going to be able to specifically map certain abilities to a button (I haven't heard anything in that regard, I could be wrong though.)

Generally with paddled controllers, I want my most important buttons to be mapped in a way to where I don't have to take my thumbs off the sticks when in combat with another player, and having melee on B would make that an issue. Also, if there's no way to separate Ground Pound from melee, you're gonna have a heck of a time aiming it.

Food for thought.

CRAP!

that sucks. i really loved this set up. why did they change it? wtf. so where is spartan charge now?

hmm, i can switch crouch/slide to A and that wouldn't be a big deal. Ground pound/ melee to the back button. I rather not though. hopefully there's an "elite controller" option setting to make things individually mappable or offer it toggled between the two.

From my understanding they changed it to allow people to crouch jump again. Crouch/slide/ground pound would interfere with that.

kind of unnecessary with clamber there. =\

so, where is spartan charge?

they better offer the option to toggle it then.

Why wouldn't you replace your left and right stick-click options with the left and right lower paddles, since you aren't using them for anthing else?

One of the biggest reasons I know I'll love this controller is not having to click the goddamn sticks to sprint/scope.

Ground pound is tied to melee now, and I dont know if you're going to be able to specifically map certain abilities to a button (I haven't heard anything in that regard, I could be wrong though.)

From what I've read/understand, you can individually remap individual buttons to any other button/paddle on the controller. So you could easily remap the melee from B to one of the shoulder buttons or paddles. FWIW.

Have you ever tried to use 4 back paddles/button controllers? it's not as easy as you think. A lot of people can't even adapt to 2 paddles on the back. I currently have a modded controller and i only use 1 button on the back for jumping.

I may not even be able to use that second button on the right back like i'm talking about, i'll have to see. I've been playing shooters on consoles since Goldeneye, it's not easy adjusting that hard wired muscle memory away from face buttons.

I haven't heard anything about Spartan charge changing. If I recall from the beta you had to be at full sprint in order to use it, so I wouldn't think it would be changed.

i just checked with one of the streamers..... melee/ground pound/ and spartan charge are all tied together.

crouch is by itself with slide. i'm not happy about this. Doesn't look like there is an option to even change it. really, really stupid.never understood console developers and their disdain for more options. why not just offer MORE OPTIONS.

I wanted my slide and ground pound tied together =(

I accidentally lost hold of the battery cover for my Forza controller and it dropped several feet onto my tile floor. Thankfully those things are durable, because it didn't even suffer a scratch.

I feel lucky, but it's still bugging me despite the no visible damage/working fine thing.

Here is what I sent:
Hi Amazon,

I was delighted to receive an email confirming the delivery date of my Elite Controller. The 27th is just in time for Halo 5!

To my surprise though, I found that the price had increased. I would be happy to share some screenshots with you to show how the price has changed.

In brief:

- June - I pre-ordered at full price

- August - Price dropped to £75.72. My account showed this price-drop also. As per Amazon's price guarantee I was delighted.

- August - HotUkDeals picked up on this price drop. Number of people ordered. Cancellation emails were sent out. However, many people contacted amazon who honoured the price. Many comments can be found here http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/xbox...age=9#comments

- August - My account remained at £75.72 and I received no correspondence to say that the price had increased. The first I realised of this was when I got my email recently about the delivery date.

I understand that pricing errors can happen. However, this is not really clear in your 'pre-order price guarantee' wording if they will be honoured our not. Also, to see the price honoured for some, leaves me frustrated given my pre-order was likely one of the first (I was keeping a close eye as I really want this item!)

I also have a pre-order at GameStop which is honouring a price cheaper than what I currently have with Amazon. As much as I would love two controllers, one pre-order will have to go.

Will Amazon honour the £75.72 price?

Let me know if any questions.

Kind regards,

XXXX

Cheers for this, worked for me!

It seems like Amazon was just buttering me up, telling me to expect the controller on release day but really having no idea when it is coming. Makes me a sad Panda.

I really hope this thing goes on sell somewhere. Really want it but not sure i want to pay $150 for a controller

Are you really sure you want an enthusiast controller then? It's not overly expensive for what it is.

and yes I realize price has been discussed to death in this thread haha

Really hope this thing is less susceptible to dead skin accumulation. Standard Xbox One controller is a magnet for that stuff.
