What I don't get is how MS expects deeper large scale experiences to be made in XNA. Like how would Civ Rev or SFIV get made in XNA? I just don't see that happening.

... why wouldn't that be possible?

Earlier versions of XNA were pretty limited IIRC, but I believe the latest releases are plenty capable for incredibly deep, extensive games.

It's really kinda annoying there are no non-phone devices that support WP7 (yet); I'm wedded to the iOS platform right now, but I'd totally buy a Zune-ish thing to fiddle around with these games/XBL integration.

Do you know what XNA is actually?

There is no problem making any game in XNA.

Yeah and XNA was limited as fuck in version 1 and 2 ( the two versions I tried out). Maybe they've improved things since then, but don't hate on me without prior knowledge. :lol :D

EDIT: I am seriously just joking, but I thought it was already a known thing that XNA at least in it's initial form wasn't exactly something you'd use to make IDK Rage for Win Phone 7 in or something. It's up to 4.0 now, and probably considerably better than at launch.

I wonder how much games like halo will cost on wp7? Hopefully, less than 5 dollars.

Anyway, I might as well mention the new game I am working on.

It should be out by launch, and incorporate xbox live support.

Have they confirmed if you can play a game on a windows 7 phone, vs someone on their xbox 360 in real time?

Of course, after purchasing an Android phone, thinking it'll catch on a bit more as a gaming platform due to sales potential, this gets brought out.

Oh well, as long as the games can be easily brought to 360 or PC through XNA...

From one of the video interviews I saw, there will be no real time multiplayer at launch, only turn based, but the feature will be added to future games. This is between two wp7s. I have not heard of cross platform gameplay(windows, x360, phone).

there is a interview on the windows phone 7 site with Major Nelson where they talk about a card game or something that has cross platform play with a PC counterpart. The interview is in the the backstage-events area.

edit: i think it might be this game http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/g/gamechestmobile/default.htm

Microsoft Canada's Greg Milligan has revealed at a recent Xbox 360 event. The big takeaway is future plans for phone-to-console gaming. While suggesting an initial use would be companion games that bring enhancements to full 360 titles (our first thought is how both a web game and Arcade casino title directly tied into Fable 2), he says it's something they are "absolutely" working on for the "near future" -- likely initially through WiFi only due to network speed sensitivities. "Near future," on that note, is a lot sooner that the impression we got at the recent hands-on, but in either case, we won't believe it until we see it with our own eyes.

Oh, that is pretty cool. Would be awesome if you have the ability to play your game on the xbox360 at home, then continue playing on your wp7 on the go. I always wanted that feature on the psp-ps3, but it never came to fruitation.

Another shameless plug. doodle Ship got another article written about it.

I am hoping to have a video displaying the app running on monday.

Q&A with Major Nelson/Larry Hyrb about Xbox Live on Windows Phone 7.

  • All props purchased on the game console appears and are available on the phone.
  • Change your avatar on the go.
  • The turn based gaming can be played with people on Windows Phone 7, Xbox Game Console and PC! Three screens and a cloud indeed!! The requirement of course being the game being on each platform.
  • They emphasized that the first wave of games announced is just that-the first wave! More will be announced between now and launch.
  • Xbox Live is the center so if a service connects to Xbox Live service it can be used to play games.
  • No double downloading of titles. Simply download the free trial and when you purchase it from inside the game the rest of the game simply unlocks.
  • Microsoft Game Studios
  • Windows Phone 7 is the only phone platform with a first party game studio dedicated to building quality games for the platform.
  • Can send and receive messages to Xbox Console and vice versa.
  • Microsoft intends on proactively seeking out the best games for the gaming portfolio. Yes that includes popular games from other mobile platforms.
  • Got to buy the games on the console, phone, pc separately.
  • Multitasking:
If you get a text message the notification dropdown menu appears.
If you answer an incoming call, the game pauses and you return to it immediately after the call ends.
  • Avatar Gadgets:
Neat things the avatar can do to add fun to simple tasks. Flashlight, coin flip, level app, etc.
  • Developers have access to avatars to produce unique experiences. Basically developers can make avatars used in games.
  • Bejeweled Live is a unique version of the game available only on Xbox Live. An example of additional features and services being added on as a Xbox Live title.
  • What type of games available at launch: All kinds for all ages and interests.
  • There will be unique gamer points only available by purchasing the gaming title on the phone.
  • Windows Phone 7 is the ONLY place to get Xbox Live support.
  • You can be signed in simultaneously on the console and phone.
  • Major Nelson wanted to make sure everyone knew there are still a couple tricks up their sleeve as far as gaming titles being announced.

This will never happen.

but If I can get Settlers of Catan XBLA on my phone that would rule.

There will be unique gamer points only available by purchasing the gaming title on the phone.

What??

It sure sounds interesting, but this sucks:

Got to buy the games on the console, phone, pc separately.

PSN still has the better option with PSP Minis for PS3 AND PSP in a single purchase.

Fuck yeah @ all that Nelson info. The best being the gaming-take a call-get back to the game, I was worried it would force a relaunch of the game from the start screen.

Do you have to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber to get the stuff mentioned here? Or does everyone get this? If not, what will be stripped down for the non-subscribers? (the majority?)

Yeah this is my question. I don't even own an Xbox, I have no Live account. Will I be able to create a low-tier one on the phone for free? Can I make an Avatar on the phone? All this Live Integration crap does nothing for me if I need a Live account already.

All phone Xbox Live services are accessible via Silver membership (aka, free). None of the currently announced features require a Gold.

Any word on which companies will carry this phones? All? A few?
I'm curently tied to T-Mobile.
T-Mobile is getting the best phones for W7 in the US. Both the HTC HD7 and Dell Venue Pro will be on T-Mobile.

Looks like it'll get a lot of iPhone games ported over in addition to this collection in the near future.

O.M.G. by Arkedo sticks out.

Come on MS. Make XBLA titles happen. That would be awesome news playing Geometry Wars or Ikaruga on a phone.

Geo Wars is on the Iphone and CAVE has a lot of solid top down shooters as well.

T-mobile have the awesome looking Samsung Omnia in the EU; got a great deal there too.

Can't wait to see some of the first party efforts on WP7.
