Xbox One November Update (Coming soon to select Preview Members)

Btw.

Am I the only one thinking the tabs text and left-side symbols are a bit too small ?

I have an 50" screen, so it will probably be OK.

But folks who are using a 32" I could see this being a problem.
Yeah I think it looks a little small, but kind of tough to judge without using it.
I think this is the newest build honestly. He took two pictures, that one and one with a can of pledge in front of it and I would think he would be on the most current stable build.

I am OK with that too.

As long as "Games" is the first one to scroll too its alright :-)
Games, Apps, Music, & Movies & TV are sections of the Store. Of the iterations we've seen of this, some have the single Store tab and others separated, so they'll probably testing out which one they think is better.

Your local collection of games & apps (and pins) will be a trigger pull to scroll down passed your recently run games/apps on the Home tab.

They said next couple of weeks... There's still much time.
First wave could be anytime though...they didn't specify of course.

Hoping they push the first wave this afternoon (and that I'm in it), would be nice to be able to put it through the paces over the weekend.

This is what I'm hoping for. I'm 960 overall in the points standings so I'm hoping that'll get me in.

Can't wait to try this out.. hopefully there are no major show stopping bugs, but I have to imagine they've been testing this internally for a while.

I actually liked the original dashboard for the One, for the most part, but now it's definitely showing its flaws to me at least.

Major Nelson will have a podcast with XboxQwik, aka, Mike Ybarra, to talk about the new Dash.

Let's hope they have some details for us.

Bad hint. Unless Major Nelson just said "soon" and you're just quoting him. then i forgive you. lol

Just some snippets. The section is only a few minutes really.

*Message sent to all in preview program and then they will select from that group to get more focused feedback and then start to open it up. People can Opt-In to the new update but if they choose now, they still stay in the preview program.

*A lot of change to the system, hence rolling it out slightly smaller scale.

*Much of the architecture and under-pinning's of the system are major getting changes. On update, some things might not actually work.

*New UI all based around speed and responsiveness.

*Its a highly customised Kernel/Version of Windows 10. Called OneCore. Basically tailored for the things fans use it for and no stuff like printer drivers etc.

*Major mentioned seeing a spreadsheet with timings for certain tasks on 360, Xbox one and the new dash. They know common tasks and its their goal to make things fasters. 50% faster figure was their goal.

*New OneGuide that shows TV and also other sources.

*Developers having access to the dash to have information about games etc. Double XP Weekend was joked about.

*Accessibility features. Did not say what.

*With new UI comes Backwards Compatibility. Actually tied together.

Thanks!

Anybody else thinking about not accepting the update? I would hate to be stuck without Netflix, Amazon, etc., until an update fixes a buggy version.

Still, the lure of that sweet sweet early taste is strong.

Nope, I can always use some other device for those things.

I'm nervous but can live without my Xbox if I have to. Also, if I heard correctly, he said that the message would go out today.

Edit: He says @35:50 the initial message will go out today.

Nice idea to work off the 360 for timing and then improve. I think nostalgia clouds some people's memoriesnof just how fast that dash is. I use it regularly as a netflix extender for the bedroom and holy balls is it frustratingly slow to get going.

New post by Major Nelson.

Still no mention of how are the groups being selected (is it by feedback reported? Is it by the leaderboard of quests and surveys?) or dates.

Here’s how it works:

*We will roll this update out over time to Preview members who opt in for it, starting with a set of Preview members who have historically submitted the most feedback. Our goal is to start with a group, get feedback on a set of features, then roll out to larger groups for additional feedback over time. It will not roll out to everyone at the same time. We’ll also be adding new features over time as we get closer to launch.

*If you’re a Preview member, you’ll get an invitation sent to you in an Xbox Live message.

*From the invitation, launch the Xbox Preview Dashboard and select the registration option.

*You can then opt-in by selecting “Preview – New Xbox One Experience.”

*If you don’t want to participate in this preview update, you will continue to receive “regular” Preview Program updates going forward. It will not remove you from the Xbox Preview Program altogether.

*Over the next several weeks, new builds will regularly roll out to those who opt in, and our engineering team will work to improve the features and fix any bugs they identify during the preview testing.

This looks a lot better than that blue, I guess it is related to theme colours.

Who would use anything but this?

I wonder if this means BC will get better performance.

The message to all preview members will need to go out first.
Yea, and then Mike's team selects only a fraction of everyone who "opts in" to be the first generation lab rats. The alpha rats. The superior and utmost industrious beings.

lol.

He also said that people who submitted the most bugs get it first.

Maybe the quest score isn´t taken into account at all.

Err, it's Saturday. I wouldn't expect it until Monday.

Yeah, on the podcast I thought they said something about messages going out "tomorrow," so I just wondered whether anything had arrived on Friday.

I guess we should get notified on Monday. I haven't given crazy feedback, just filled out every survey I could, but still don't have a high rank, so I won't be in the first wave anyway.

Well...I could, but like many others, I don't like leaving electrical devices on standby when not using it at home :)
It comes out to about 27$ per full year of instant-on in Canada, but I know, it's not always a money thing.
