Yakuza 3 now official +pictures

I don't see why people are saying Japanese devs were becoming irrelevant, I mean, look at Nintendo..

And companies like Capcom and Konami have some of the most discussed argued games out there (DMC4 and MGS4)

We have just been flooded with more casual games and shooters that it seems like they have gone away but I don't think so.

He was talking about their technical prowess. Quite frankly DMC4 is irrevelant when it comes to graphics wirk.

Some of that is just opinion as DMC4 looks impressive to me, certainly not like the PS2 games.

wow, there are two SEGAs, Nagoshi's games and the rest :lol

Looks so good that the other SEGA better do a good job bringing the game soon and with its original japanese VA intact...is this asking SEGA that much? :(

I was like ewwwww when I saw this first, what has that even to do with Yakuza if Musashi is in it? But the screens look really really good. I hope for FREE-Gameplay and much to do. This may give the PS3 a nice push in Japan, depending on if people will fly on it...

A Musashi game? FUCKING AWESOME. Graphics are kind of a mixed bag, the character faces are great, and the rest is okay. But still, this game could be really badass...if Sega gives me this game and Y2 I'll finally forgive them for the Dreamcast(and the Shenmue 2 debacle)

DMC4 looks better than its japanese competition at least. :P

I never understood why Yakuza was successful and not Shenmue ! Anyway the serie was not that good, i just don't care about the third episode. I want Shenmue 3 !

Uhh...it wasn't successful (outside of Japan). That's why the 2nd game still hasn't been localized.

The franchise is at over 1 million now. It's very successful, even if it's mostly sold in Japan. :P

Shenmue can't even dream of getting another release anywhere in the world. I think even the lameass MMO that was being made in China got canned. LOL YU SHITZUKA! HAHA! ALL HAIL LORD NAGOSHI!

FUCK!!!

REN OSUGI (AGAIN)!!

NAOTO TAKENAKA!!

MASAYA KATO!!

FUCK!!

What are you talking about!? You are missing the coolest cast member of all:

Terajima "Aniki" Susumu!

Seriously, there is no better a genre actor in Japan that Terajima Susumu. He is probably the equivalent of Steve Buschemi and John Malkovich all in one.

The decision to make this in the Edo period is absolutely brilliant from a production standpoint. They have liberated themselves from overly complex background designs and can focus on characters.

Musashi (and this is 5 years after Sekigahara, so it is soon after the wild period of Musashi's life) and Aniki = Day One purchase.

I wonder if Miike is still involved?

I was supremely disappointed in the first game, I was so psyched for it, a hardcore, realistic game about Yakuza, when it was nothing of the kind. The storyline lost me around the time that there was a huge underground uber-rich area run by the homeless. Oy, that was AWFUL. Not to mention the base gameplay while good (combat) was damn near ruined by random friggen encounters. The boss fights were pretty awful too. I just could not understand why this game was so successful in Japan, but Shenmue was not. Shenmue was about 20 times better.

Now for this one, if they ditch the random battles, make the city more interactive, and make sure the storyline isn't ripped out of a some bad manga, then it might have a shot. It looks very good, and I want to believe. I took no joy from being disappointed in part 1.

Also, I heard people say that part 2 was a lot better than 1, did it fix the first games main problems (dead city, whacked out story, random battles and over reliance on minigames?) or not?

Seriously, between the start of this gen up until now a lot of people (including myself at times) have been going, "Japanese developers are becoming irrelevant now, it's all about western devs this gen." Well it seems that while the west has been busy showing off the 133t technologies they've been making that's only possible on X hardware, Japan has been making games.
yeah obviously you were wrong, 2008 will be japanese year with MGS, RE5, FF, DMC, GT5 and many more
imo 2008>2007 Cause I don't care about fps

And paper lanterns and cherry blossom.

And PULVERISING HAND-TO-HAND VIOLENCE.

It's like they made it just for me.

Yeah, it was canned.

If you didn't like 1, you wouldn't like 2, they were basically the same game. People said combat is a lot more responsive and improved in 2, but I disagree, I think it is still poorly implemented and you will still end up punching and combo air. The big plus is the weapon heat actions, they are pretty damn awesome and there are a lot more hidden moves and techniques to learn. Story-wise, it is a lot deeper than the first and involves lots of characters and lots of plot twists (maybe too many plot twists to be honest)

OH MY GOD!!!! What a pleasant surprise!!! Loved the first one and hoping for Sega translate the sequence (...99% of chance that it won't happen though...). Another must buy for me!!! Thank you Sega!!!

Well Shenmue and Ryu ga Gotoku are quite similar, so they could use the same engine, resources and technology from the game to make Shenmue III relatively cheaply IMO.
Considering Shenmue III was being worked on well into 2003, it should be even cheaper to make. It's got the potential to sell millions on PS3, so I don't see why they shouldn't.

Edit: Let me add that this game has little to do with Yakuza, thread title change please. ;-)

wow, this fucking rocks. those environments look exactly how i'd imagine shenmue 3 to look.

I think it's time to abandon my silly fantasies of playing another shitty sailor finding game, and pick up Yakuza!

Fixed.

Any chance that Sega will do something obscenely sweet like adding English subtitles to the Japanese release?

I haven't been really into these but that looks totally excellent. The character modeling is absolutely top notch, looks very realistic unlike say Genji.

Someone with a european PS3 and Yakuza can tell if it runs on it? I actually never got around to play the game. I only posted this thread because there are alot of fans around.

I am kinda ashamed of myself now. :lol

Runs fine.

This looks amazing on the PS3. Not getting giddy until we know if its getting a western release.

don't feel awkard xater

I've had the game for quite awhile now and have yet to finish....though this thread has stirred my inspiration and i'm going back now :lol

Just wanted to point out that according to the Famitsu article, Kiryu Kazumanosuke (:lol , but in a good way) and Miyamoto Musashi are one and the same person. There's only one hero.

With that said, DO. WANT.

Barring BH5, this is without a doubt the best-looking next-gen Japanese game. Nagoshi is quite simply teh man.

I felt so bad that I went out to rent it finally and then the game always hangs up at the loading screen for "Escape from the funeral". FUCK! I hate it that I only have software emulation on my PS3!

So far the game seemed to be pretty promising. The storytelling was great. Well release Yakuza 3 outside of Japan Sega so I can at least play that one! :lol
