Yoshi's Woolly World |OT| It's So Fluffy I'm Gonna Die!

Just finished World 2 with 100% so far. I LOVE the S levels.

My biggest gripe is the often arbitrary triggers to make things appear. Feels like you sort of have to guess/jump around to figure it out. Because of that, the game feels much longer than I want it to.

I don't have the game, but I adored the original Yoshi's Island and Kirby's Epic Yarn. I have a few questions regarding how the game controls:

- When using the tilt-based Wii Remote scheme, is there any way to throw eggs with the B Button instead of holding the A Button? If not, I might skip this option since moving while throwing would be rendered nearly impossible, despite the more intuitive nature of motion-controlled aiming.
- Can eggs be aimed using the right analog stick?
- Is Yoshi's movement analog? Assuming otherwise and that the Wii Remote controls are not optimal, the Classic Controller (Pro) seems like the superior option with its bigger +Control Pad and a better suited B-Style jumping.

I'm not sure on point 1, and I don't know what you mean "analog" on point 3 (?), but as far as point 2 it seems the answer is no; The 'X' button stops and starts the movement of your trajectory line so aiming - and controls with the pro controller as a whole - are fantastic honestly.

This is my only gripe with the game as well. SMW2 had some of this, but it felt more subtle. This seems a bit more like padding, but I guess it's a game you play leisurely. I just don't have that time sometimes.

Agreed. This is my only real gripe as well.

I got to 3-S and saw some Miiverse post with something like "this level is really fun!!"

not if you're trying to get all the items it's not. this is the most frustrating level in any game ever. even levels that aren't in games... i don't even know how that would work, but fuck this level.

edit: one of those levels where you get a little farther each time. finally got it and my thumb is killing me. too much Yoshi.

They've hidden some of these collectibles pretty well. I'm still missing two flowers in 1-2...

Really, the only part of the game that hasn't grown on me yet is the music. It doesn't have the catchy tunes of Yoshi's Island but it's still very early in-game.

there's a lot of hidden question mark clouds in this game. you get a better feel for where they're placed the more they play the game. a lot of em are the peak of jumps in between platforms, in the air in the middle of platforms, and then there's a bunch of hidden walls like in the NSMB games

I feel like 2 player co-op has helped us uncover a lot of secrets. We cover more ground, we can help each other by head bouncing, we can always use each other as an egg in a pinch. Much like NSMB series though, platforming can become tougher and knocking each other into enemies / pits is the trade off.

Yeah, I discovered that in 1-1, especially the hidden walls (or the ones you push inwards). Guess I'll just keep plugging away. ;)

This game is the real deal. So many well hidden secrets, such good level design, such beautiful visuals. So far it's a more than worthy successor to yoshi's island to me.
I think even though people may love or hate the game for whatever reason. The one thing that the community is going to be able to agree on is that after 20 years the Yoshi's Island sequel people have been waiting for is finally here. I haven't played much Island and Story, and I skipped the handheld Islands but even I immediately knew when I picked it up however many months ago that fans of the series would be happy to finally get the game they wanted.

Man, these Miiverse posts are kinda interesting.

What I mean by "analog" is does Yoshi walk when slightly tilting the left analog stick, and run when fully tilting? Also, from what I know about the game based on the online manual and gameplay footage, you can't eat and jump using the X and A Buttons respectively on the Pro Controller, which are my preferred two main buttons for platformers using said controller.

Yoshi's Story was one of the biggest disappointments of my teenage years.

I feel like a weirdo as someone who really enjoyed Yoshi's Story (All Melon runs are awesome) and had a great time with Yoshi's New Island, 100%ing it. Even with Yoshi's Island DS, I enjoyed it, but not enough to fully complete it. Sure, none of them were Yoshi's Island, but I've really enjoyed the whole series.

I saw one pop up before a level that showed Yoshi getting raped. Like, what the fuck is up with someone that they feel the need to do that? I couldn't even report it because I didn't see it on Miiverse itself, it just popped up in that little area before a level.

I had one that simply said: Poop.

I actually got that one as well (or another one that was similar I guess) on the first level I played :/ dumb shit

2-6 just makes me appreciate the lava effects in this game so much. The way the made the blargg is just plain cool.

EDIT: Also I'm pretty sure the theme is a remix of something. Can't put my finger on it though.

This game is good but the music is really lame. I'm only on world 2 though so who knows, maybe it gets better.

Yoshi games aren't known for their great music. I'm still traumatized by the victory music in Yoshi's Story where they're all singing about food.

I'm curious how you're going to describe 5-S...

Got through 3-4, then went back and got the few flowers I missed in world 2 and played 2-S. Thought that was a pretty cool level.

just beat the first world. this game is so awesome. really happy with my purchase so far and it finally feels like a legitimate sequel to Yoshi's Island

Just 100%ed the first world (all items for every level) EXCEPT 1-S. Took me ~2 hours, given I was still warming up to the game at first. I'm really, really happy with it. Absolutely gorgeous art, super fun gameplay, and I do enjoy the more exploratory pace as opposed to constantly being timed in Mario.

With that said, has anyone else noticed janky framerate on the World screen? Maybe I'm just crazy, but the game feels a bit janky, like low framerate, on the World screen. Could just be a perception thing.

How long is this game? I assume 6 worlds with 8 sections each? Is there a secret world? What's needed to unlock the secret world?

There are 9 levels on each world (6 worlds). In addition to that, there's an extra final level and the Boss Tent (with 12 bosses at higher speed). Flowers unlocks S levels and the final level. It's a pretty long game if you're going to play everything.

It's 30 fps in the level selection hub, while the game is 60 fps.

Hmm I totally wasn't really interested in this game because Kirby's Epic Yarn was really boring to me, but maybe I should reconsider. I did love Yoshi's Island.

Yoshi's Woolly World has great music. Just like the visual style, the music style is very well defined in the game. It might not be in a style that suits everyone's taste, though.

This game makes me feel how I felt playing snes games.. Such a good innocent feeling
3-2, least I think that was the slide curtain one, was where I really got this feelibg. It just perfectly capture how I thought games would be like when I was older back when I was playing the original yoshi's island. The level design is top notch and each one so far introduces new mechanics that haven't been repeated yet so well. 2-S is by far the most interesting level I've reached so far (up to 3-5).

Aside from the Windmill theme, I haven't heard anything that I've particularly liked. I'm up to 1-8.

I might need to take a break from trying to collect everything. The game is starting to feel a bit samey.

It's weird. I haven't seen a game where the reviews and general perception were so drastically different in awhile. This is legitimately a really good game. The reviews are not accurate at all.

DonKey Kong tropical Freeze by Gamestop : http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/donkey-kong-country-tropical-freeze-review/1900-6415667/

Note : 6/10
Dull, derivative level design
Employs some cheap and frustrating platforming tricks
Harsh checkpoints during boss battles

Yeah so when you see stupig reviewers like that... I would fucking doubt them at some point and won't read them anymore :P
I learned my lesson with Fantasy Life to not anymore trust reviewers.

You could look at though Epic Yarn was really a bad Yoshi game all along and this is them improving on it for the sequel.

This is actually the first of Good Feel's games I've actually enjoyed.

Wario Land: Shake It!! was awesome.

Got it on Friday. Played through all of world 1 except for the final caste. Absolutely loving it so far. Not too challenging yet, but they did a really good job hiding the collectibles and making every level fresh from the previous one. Really enjoyable game so far.

Yoshi's Island is my favorite platformer of all time so this game was an instant purchase from the day it was announced. I am through World 1 and loving it so far. The charm is off the charts with exceptional visuals, a pleasing and unique soundtrack, and subtle details littering every corner of the world. I don't think this will quite reach YI and Tropical Freeze levels but the first impression has been excellent nonetheless.

My only gripe so far is how some of the collectibles are hidden. I always loved YI for avoiding stuff like hidden areas behind walls that seem 100% solid, and so far WW seems to be lacking a little of that subtlety. If it takes more than 2 or 3 extremely thorough passes to find all of the items in a level then that is a little too obscure for my taste. We'll see how it goes once I get around to trying to 100% everything, but for now I'm happy to just clear the levels and save the rest for later.
