Loved their first and this one is just as good.
Their albums are like mental vacations for me.
I feel like this is the 3rd thread on this subject I've come across recently. Because of that, I'll instead post the album that took me by complete and utter surprise.
City and Colour: Little Hell
Ah, new City and Color album. Amazing, this thread is a goldmine for finding stuff I missed. Will check your other recommendations as well later.
Thank me later was like, early 2010
Also check out that glaring omission which I edited into my post after you read it!
Radiohead - Codex
It seems like this album is pretty polarizing. Everyone that has listened to it either loves it or really doesn't like it. They definitely changed their sound quite a bit but I love it.
But c'mon, no love for Newlands? I can't stop listening to it.
It's cool, I only got into drake late last year or so also.oh my bad, just got into drake.
It's good, but I can't understand some of the lyrics.
Originally it was going to be Blazo's Colors of Jazz, or Kuniyuki Takahashi's We Are Together, or Colin Stetson's New History Warfare Vol.2: Judges, but...
these guys are incredible. Jazz meets hiphop meets... rock? It's incredible R&B.
This gets my vote.
Name? Genre? Favorite song?
Makes Youtube searches easier if you know what you are searching for
Neon Indian - Era Extraña. it's "chillwave" which is a fun way to say "indie pop with plenty of synths"
Well now that I know you've got similar taste, I guess since it's free I know what I'll be listening to tonight
I don't know which album is my favourite this year, but I do know I listened to Henry's Funeral Shoe - Dog Scratched Ear ALOT last month.

Checked this band out off this description and "Polish Girl" was insta-buy. Will definitely consider checking out the album. Thanks gaf!
8-bit music
Next on the list is actually a chiptune album, If you guys are into that kind of music. The album is titled "Roots" and is by Danimal Cannon:
Here's a link to the bandcamp page: http://danimalcannon.bandcamp.com/album/roots
My favorite track on this one is "Synergy" with starts off with an awesome rhythm melody, and halfway into the song kicks into live instruments, played by a couple different musicians known around the internet. Give it a listen!
Have you checked out Starscream? Also totally wicked nostalgic 8-bit euphoria.

Check out "Future and It Doesn't Work + remixes": http://starscream.bandcamp.com/album/future-and-it-doesnt-work-remixes
The opening track, "Rise of Space," is deadly.
<3 the bandcamp website.
.
Oneirology.
Regarding chiptunes, I also got a record I can chime in with:

Just start with the first song. We havent published a review on it yet, but I'll probably do that soon next year. Anyway, this one is free (as all of the stuff we post) !
this cover is seriously scary.
WTT(note: not actual cover of album)
gonna have to listen to what you've posted that I haven't heard, because you're the only other person with Youth Lagoon.Phenomenal year for music.
1. Real Estate - Days
2. Bon Iver - Bon Iver (1b)
3. M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
4. James Blake - James Blake
5. The War on Drugs - Slave Ambient
6. Youth Lagoon - Year of Hibernation
7. Sepalcure - Sepalcure + EPs
8. Nicolas Jaar - Space Is Only Noise
9. The Field - Looping State of Mind
10. Kate Bush - 50 Words for Snow
4 tracks in and I'm loving this. I can't listen to this genre every day, but when I'm in the mood, something like this really hits the spot. It's not terribly loud, but focuses on tempo changes, melody, and emotional power. And it conjures up memories of RPG's, Mega Man games, and everything Nintendo-related from my childhood. Heh.

This thread makes me feel out of touch with music, simply because I haven't heard of 95% of the artists/albums listed here.
Ugh.
