Can't believe I forgot this was this year, brilliant album also.
I was kinda out of loop this year. Genre? Impressions? Favorite Song?
So...Mogwai.
Wow how didn't I think of that? That's a big part of the reason Drive is my favorite movie of the past couple years.
Also, its mastadon.
Generally Heavy Metal of the amazing variety. They jump effortlessly from sub-genre to sub-genre.
Favorite song... would probably be Bedazzled Fingernails... but that is mostly just within the context of the whole album. Its really an album that works best as an album.
I didn't care for it much. But I don't really love Mastodon as many others do.
any good punk albums this year?
Mother Mother - Eureka
Understandable... Mastodon are kind of a wild card as far as I'm concerned. I've gotten people who hate heavy metal to love them and vice versa. For me, I love that they (tend) to focus on the groove and their drummer is incredible.
Some of their songs just seem to have random beat changes that don't add much outside of surprise. I still don't really "get" Leviathan and the one that came after it, but I listen to them from time to time waiting for them to catch on. Sometimes, I'll really get into a few minutes of a particular track, but I can't seem to sit down and listen to a full album.
Oh, and as far as fun, friendly rock goes, nothing this year beat The Joy Formidable- The Big Roar
Neon Indian - Era Extraña
SBTRKT
Been listening to it since release.
Been listening to it since release.
I never thought I would see this album in here, too each his own though.
i had the exact same feeling.I never thought I would see this album in here, too each his own though.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, this came out of this year? Damn, totally feels like a 2010 record. Great stuff, can't believe I forgot all about it. I blame it coming out same month as PJ...
PJ, in my opinion, is probably the best album released this year, as it's beautifully crafted and performed, full of real emotion and ideas. A glorious record. I just preferred Gloss Drop more, imperfections and all.
Dude.
Been listening to it since release.
Yep, Mogwai came out at the start of the year. It's the only 2011 album that I have on my mp3 player that I actually still listen to with any regularity.
Explosions in the Sky? Don't really listen to it outside of the opening track and "Postcard from 1952."
Radiohead? I "get it," but I think I'm kind of "over" this band. They don't play the type of music that appeals to me anymore.
Fleetfoxes? I got tired of the vocals after a while.
The Mogwai album still has little surprises for me today, and focusing on the different textures of each song is a nice reward. It's probably one of their most poppy albums, but it's also rich and diverse.
Listening to the Justice album right now. "Canon" is mega hot videogamey hotness.
1. Girl With Dragon Tattoo
Runners Up
Justice
Battles:Gloss Drop
Tron Remix
Arcade Fire Suburbs (was that this year?)
