So freakin' awful. I wanted to walk out about a half hour into it, but my kid was enjoying it. I have the same feeling of disappointment as I did after seeing The Phantom Menace. This film wasn't anything like the originals. So many cheesy scenes, awful dialogue, and the story was worse than I imagined it would be.

Gophers, swinging from the vines, ants, the fridge, the quicksand, etc....sigh.

Why? Temple, Crusade, and Skull dont add shit to Raiders. If anything, they hurt it, being a great film with 3 brothers of varying degrees of inferior quality.

They may never touch Raiders' perfection, but that doesn't mean that most people cannot still enjoy them...perhaps even moreso than what many, including you and I, feel to be the best of the series. I've met lots of people with different favorites in the series. To advocate skipping the other films is just going too far, man.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I find myself lumping all three movies after Raiders into being a supplemental trilogy to the original rather than looking at the first three as a natural trilogy. They all get goofier and lighter, losing most of the grit and character found in the original.

Not really. If only one movie is great, then I will only recommend one. Hell, Im a huge James Bond fan, but I couldnt in good conscience recommend more than 5 of the 21 movies at most to anyone.

Just because Im a fan and can sit through them all doesnt mean Im going to try and torture someone by making them watch Moonraker.

Well, I guess I have to agree to disagree. I find myself to be a completionist when it comes to characters and worlds I like...even if that means reading/watching all the subjectively bad ones in a series. I don't expect anyone else to intuitively understand it, but I guess it's because I have a fond appreciation for B-movies and bad installments in otherwise great series. They just give me more to like about what I considered already good and what I might not have fully appreciated beforehand...not to mention the good to be found in those bad movies themselves.

I think some people seriously overreact over this movie. Yes, it has some problems, but I think everyone can agree that it's the best adventure movie of this kind made since the last Indy, which was when? 15 years ago?

So basically, it's either we hope for more Indy movies, or this genre could be as good as dead.

No way. The first Mummy movie was better than this crap.

Wrong. I'm so glad to have another Indy movie again. Especially an adventure movie that doesn't require a cut every two seconds, but is able to capture a lot of action in a single shot. The action is enough to excite people, as opposed to how the scene is edited.

Saw it today. I went to the same theater and at about the same time that I went to see Narnia last week. Same kind of family-oriented crowd. Everyone loved it. They all laughed at
Indy freaking out over the "rope"
. Much applause at the end. Again, that's the kind of audience I enjoy watching a movie with. That's why I stay far away from midnight showings.

I went to a midnight showing and the audience was just like yours. Big laughs at all the jokes and most people walked out loving the movie. The applause was so loud in the beginning when Indy first appeared that I couldn't even hear his first line. But that's the first time that I've seen that much of a reaction from a midnight crowd.

Strange. I thought there was always enthusiasm at a midnight showing. Last Thursday was my first time and it was a great crowd. Lots of cheering from the first silhouette of Indy to him
grabbing the hat
at the end of the movie.

Reading the kind of opinions people have for this movie makes me sad.

Its like nobody goes to the movies just to have a good time and enjoy themselves. I think some people are hoping they can hate a movie so that it makes more lively conversation I just really dont get it. Learn to have some fun people.

Expectations can be a real bitch, man. This is Indy we're talking about here...twenty years in the fucking making. I'm glad I saw it and will actually go and see it again soon. I am glad I have seen them all on the first day of theatrical release. Kinda weird 'n geeky tradition now.

I thought this movie was omgsoawesome.

You guys are so hard to please...today a buddy of mine said the CGI bothered him and he cited the boxes in the warehouse. So I assume he'd rather the crew spend their time and money building 100,000 wooden boxes instead of drawing them for a fraction of the cost.

This is still a business - not some $20 whore looking to get a mouthful of your nostalgia juice.

Yeah I guess your right I have just been noticing it about a lot of movies lately nobody can just chill and suspend their minds enough to just enjoy whats happening.

Absolutely agreed. The more I think about Crystal Skull the more I absolutely fucking hate it. What a wasted opportunity.

Really man I mean really? The mummy was a good time no doubt but I have a hard time imagining how someone who likes the Mummy could not like this movie. I am willing to bet if the next mummy movie was the crystal skull everyone would love it cause it exceeded expectations but because its Indiana Jones it let everyone down.

I thought Crank was brilliant. Even with tempered expectations, this movie disappointment me. Trust me, I wanted to love it so very much.

Ahhh but I just want everyone to have as good a time as I did.
The part when Marcus Brody's little head rolled off onto the car and Shia starts cracking up and Indiana gets this unamused look that is perfectly Sean Connery
and right there the movie bridged for me at least perfectly this Indiana compared to the one we last saw it brought the series to a close.

To be fair, the only other midnight showings I've gone to are Superman Returns, Episode III, and the 2 Matrix Sequels. Superman got a decent response, the Matrix sequels got nothing (aside from people throwing popcorn at the screen when the projector screwed up) and Episode III got lukewarm applause at the end. Superman Returns and Indy were both at the geek favorite theater in town, the others weren't.

Exactly. If I had told you that in my opinion the Earth is flat, you wouldn't accept my opinion. Just like I don't accept the opinions of those who fail to recognise the fact that KotCS is awesome.

Fuck. I showed up an hour and a half early for one of the shows tonight and found out it was sold out. As was the show on an hour after that, and an hour after that.

Oh well. I guess I'll watch The Last Crusade and be going to see KotCS tomorrow.

Note: When this happens, just buy a ticket for something else and walk into the movie you want anyway. Also, avoid theaters that take tickets right before going to the screen you want.

Spielberg & Lucas have definitely lost the touch, though.

Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, and The Terminal think otherwise. And that's only the last decade. Say what you want about Lucas, his films were at the very least entertaining which is more than I can say for most of the crap Hollywood spews out.

"Juno: a story about a pregnant canadian and her skinny awkward boyfriend in this fluffy cotton candy hipster piece of garbage". Brilliant!

I liked it. The plot wasn't great, and I'd agree that the movie just wasn't quite as good. But some of that was unavoidable. Indy can't be quite the same character at 800 years old. The cinema was still great, and I'm not sure what this nonsense is about bad dialogue... there were a few cheesy lines, but there are always a few cheesy lines in Indiana Jones movies.

Comparing this to the newer Star Wars movies is ludicrous though. Those movies were awful. This one is just a little different... probably a little worse for the difference. But it's very suitable for an Indiana Jones movie with an old version of Indiana Jones.

That said, actually showing aliens was pretty lame

See, now why would you put The Terminal in that list when you could have listed Munich?

Alright, I just saw it, and have one question (multi part):

Ending spoiler...
Why where they so hostile? They came here, taught us a bunch of stuff, collected artifacts, had an elaborate temple built around them, and then just destroyed it all and took off. If knowledge was the treasure, why did their gift destroy the Russian chick, and why didn't Ox and Indy want to stick around and receive the knowledge? They had no reason to believe it would be fatal.

As for my impressions, it was a fun ride. I would have liked the story to be a little tighter, and less CGI. Out of four, the the two with "treasures" that everyone has heard of were better, but this one was much better than ToD.

Raiders>>>Crusade>Skull>>>>>Doom.

Maybe it read Spalko's mind and saw what she wanted the knowledge for and didn't approve.

As for why Ox and Indy decided to flee, no idea...

Shit. I forgot Munich. That movie is incredible. I liked the Terminal, it was pretty light but a lot of fun. But Munich amazing.

Okay, but still
why did they destroy all of the artifacts if they were archaeologists like Indy said they were?

Most of the complaints i generally agree with, despite enjoying the film quite a bit, but i will defend the
nuke fridge
to my grave. :D

Also have to join in the The Rundown (called Welcome to the Jungle here) love. That movie genuinely surprised the shit out of me.

This is why you guys complaining about you know what fail IMO. (I agree on Tarzan being redic. though)
While that kind of makes sense, the fact is that all three previous Indy films were based on religious or occult artifacts. The power of these artifacts came from gods or spirits. In Indy IV, the source of power is technological, which doesn't really fit in with the pattern from the first three films.

It's still them being worshiped religiously by the Mayans, and it DOES make sense, people are nitpicking the most retarded bullshit it pisses me off. Once again, Tarzan was retarded, agreed 100%, but fuck guys the
alien
anger is fucking stupid.

Yes, but I would have preferred if it was a guy in a suit compared to the CG model. Or make the whole thing naturally and CG in the eye/mouth movement.

Times have changed and humans aren't just grunting cavemen looking for the next meal. Recall the A-bomb scene from the beginning and consider what the interdimensional beings might think about a race that's created something like that and yet is looking for something even MORE powerful. They probably just decided to pack it up and go home.
